Attributive Clause

Attributive Clause :
Translate the fllwing sentences int Chinese.
? 這個男人是杰克船長。? 這個男人正在奔跑。 ? 這個正在奔跑的男人是杰克船長。
The man is Captain Jack.
The man is running.
The man wh is running is Captain Jack.
What is an attributive clause?
定語從句 在復合句中修飾名詞或代詞的句子。
Thse are ranges that I bught fr kids.
Tips:定語為單詞是前置,定語為從句是后置的
Thse are fresh ranges.
在主從復合句中,對某一名詞或代詞起修飾作用的從句叫定語從句。被修飾的名詞或代詞叫先行詞,引導定語從句的連接詞叫關系詞(關系代詞和關系副詞)。定語從句一般位于先行詞后。
“一個包含定語從句的復雜句”是由兩個(或以上)簡單句組合而成的。

The girl wh was in red brke the glass.
被定語從句修飾的名詞或代詞稱為先行詞。先行詞一般出現在定語從句之前。

1. which 在從句中作主語、賓語或介詞賓語,指物。
? They planted the trees which didn’t need much water.? The fish which we bught were nt fresh. ? This is the huse which we lived in last year. → This is the huse ________ we lived last year.
which作介詞賓語時,介詞既可放在關系代詞which 之前,也可以放在從句中動詞之后
2. wh在從句中作主語和賓語, whm 在從句中作賓語;都指人。
? The freigner wh visited ur schl yesterday is frm Canada.
? The by wh brke the windw is called Michael.
? The persn (whm / wh) yu just talked t is Mr Li.

在定語從句中緊接著介詞的只能用which和whm。指人用whm,指物用which
3. that 在從句中作主語或賓語,指人或物,作賓語時可省略。

4. whse 在從句中作定語,修飾人或物,意為“……的”,可與 f which (whm) the ... 互換。

5. as既可以指人也可以指物,在定語從句中作主語、賓語、表語。不能省略。

下列情況中,定語從句中關系代詞一般用that而不用which:先行詞為all, everything, nthing, smething, anything, little, much 等不定代詞時。2. 先行詞被all, every, n, sme, any, little, much等修飾時。3. 先行詞被序數詞或形容詞最高級修飾時。4. 先行詞被the nly, the very, the same, the last修飾時。5. 先行詞既有人又有物的時候,只能用that。
