One Saturday in June, I gt ff the train frm Vienna at Altenberg statin, in the midst f a gathering f bathers, such as ften flck t ur village at fine weekends.
I had gne nly a few steps alng the street and the crwd had nt yet scattered when, high abve me in the air, I saw a bird whse species I culd nt at first determine. It flew with slw, measured wing-beats, varied at set intervals by lnger perids f gliding. It seemed t heavy t be a hawk; fr a strk (鸛), it was nt big enugh and, even at that height, neck and feet shuld have been visible. Then the bird made a sudden turn s that the setting sun shne fr a secnd full n the underside f the great wings which lit up like stars in the blue f the skies. The bird was white. By Heaven, it was my cckat (鳳頭鸚鵡)! The steady mvements f his wings clearly indicated that he was setting ut n a lng-distance flight.
“What shuld I d? Shuld I call t the bird?” Well, have yu ever heard the flight-call f the greater cckat? N? But yu have prbably heard pig-killing in the traditinal methd. Imagine the ludest lng cry a pig culd make, picked up by a micrphne and amplified many times ver by a pwerful speaker. A man can imitate it quite successfully, thugh smewhat weak, by shuting at the tp f his vice “O-ah”. I had already prved that the cckat understd this imitatin and prmptly “came t heel”. But wuld it wrk at such a height? A bird always has great difficulty in making the decisin t fly dwnwards at a steep angle. T yell, r nt t yell, that was the questin. If I yelled and the bird came dwn, all wuld be well, but what if it sailed calmly n thrugh the cluds? Hw wuld I then explain my sng t the crwd f peple?
Finally, I did yell. The peple arund me std still, rted t the spt. The bird hesitated fr a mment n utstretched wings, and then, flding them, it descended in ne dive and landed upn my utstretched arm. Once again I was master f the situatin.

I recently fund myself agnizing ver a financial decisin. S when I saw a financially savvy acquaintance at a party, I decided t ask fr her advice. As the cnversatin deepened, hwever, I felt my stmach tighten in frustratin. While I’m sure my friend wanted t help, her advice was immediately ff the mark. Cmmunicating bth yur prblem and yur expectatins will help yur advice-giver apprach yur questins thughtfully and with a gal f their wn in mind.
David Eddie was an advice clumnist fr nearly tw decades. At that time, he learned that gd advice-givers ask questins that help them better understand where yu’re cming frm and what yur gals are. They dn’t assume they knw the answer—r that yu have the time, resurces r ability t apprach the challenge in the same way they wuld. “Yu want smene wh’s ging t drill dwn int the prblem with yu and take the time t understand the shape f it,” he says.
Persnally mtivated advice is usually pretty easy t spt. A friend may advise their secret crush t leave their current partner. That’s why Eddie ften gathers a range f perspectives. He calls his grup f advice-givers The Panel, and it’s made up f his wife, mm and sme friends and clleagues. Their advice helps him see different sides f sticky issues—pushing him t cnsider different angles and utcmes. But in the end, he’s the ne wh makes the decisin. Mre than 80 percent f glbal heat is absrbed by the cean, which has a massive capacity t stre and give ff heat. High sea-surface temperatures are causing lng-term damage t cral reefs (珊瑚礁). Crals are dying. The IPCC (政府間氣候變化專門委員會(huì)) prjects that up t 90 percent f cral reefs culd disappear if glbal warming reaches 1.5℃. Anther reasn crals are in truble is because f cean acidificatin. When cean water warms, it expands in vlume. This is a majr cause f the rise in sea levels, alng with the water added t the cean by the melting f land-based glaciers (冰川). The sea level has risen by an average f 20 centimeters since the late 19th century, and the research by scientists studying the last 25 years f satellite data fund that the cean water is rising faster and faster. Sea level rise leads t the destructin f castal wetlands, flding and damage t water ecsystems.
Temperature and precipitatin (沉淀) are key elements f climate. A warmer climate means that mre water rises frm bth the land and cean, and a warmer atmsphere hlds mre f that water. Scientists have nticed that there are mre heavy rainfall events. Additinally, higher water temperature in streams, lakes, and rivers lead t lwer levels f disslved xygen in the water, which impacts the survival and ppulatins f fish and ther sea life.
Especially trubling are the extreme weather events that are happening mre ften arund the wrld. Hurricanes are ramping up in intensity, particularly in Nrth Atlantic. The year 2017 was a busy ne fr Atlantic hurricanes. Meanwhile, in the western United States, the state f Califrnia has had recrd-setting drught cnditins, which began in 2012.

C.Cral reefs are in danger f disappearing.D.Crals and sea creatures need critical surrundings.

Whenever yu pick up an apple and prepare t eat it, yu may ntice a small sticker attached t the fruit with a rw f fur r five numbers n it.That string f numbers is smething called a Price Lk-Up (PLU) cde. 36 It’s designed t help supermarkets get t knw their inventry (庫存) f fruits and vegetables, and t make it easy fr checkut clerks t knw what t charge fr a particular item.
