When I was in my early teens, I was a huge fan f a lcal band. I saw them play many times, bught plenty f their psters and recrds, and was excited when I met them after shws. But as they grew and received mre attentin frm the industry, they started making changes t their music. The rugh edges (小缺點(diǎn)) that made them stand ut were smthed ver. There wasn’t much left that I cnnected with. I watched as a band I lved turned int smething I culd hardly recgnize.
I didn’t knw much abut the music industry at the time, but it was clear t me that they were taking a huge risk. Many artists, understandably, think they will find mre cmmercial success by eliminating any aspect f their music r image that smene might find bjectinable Hwever, what is unbjectinable is als unremarkable.
My experience made me think abut what makes smene fall in lve with a sng r a band. It’s different fr everyne, I’m sure, but I think ne f the key factrs that make an artist cnnect with a fan is realness. When artists write what they think peple want t hear instead f what they want t express, they are missing ut n pints f cnnectin that can turn a casual (偶然的) listener int a super fan.
This experience als made me think abut what rle I wanted t play in the music industry. I knew by then that I didn’t have the talent t be an artist myself. But I lved learning abut the music industry. I lved ding research n what makes an artist successful and why. When I listened t a new artist r saw a band play, I wanted t find ut what made them special, prtect it, and share it with the wrld. I eventually figured ut that managers are the nes wh are in the best psitin t achieve that.

Students wh are better able t understand and manage their emtins effectively, a skill knwn as emtinal intelligence (EI), d better at schl than their less-skilled classmates, accrding t research published by the American Psychlgical Assciatin.
“It’s nt enugh t be smart and hardwrking. Students must als be able t understand and manage their emtins t succeed at schl,” said Carlyn MacCann, lead authr f the study. MacCann and her clleagues analyzed data frm mre than 160 studies, representing mre than 42,000 students frm 27 cuntries, published between 1998 and 2019. The students ranged in age frm primary schl t cllege. The researchers fund that students with higher EI tended t get higher grades and better achievement test scres than thse with lwer EI scres. As fr why EI can affect academic perfrmance, MacCann believes a number f factrs may cme int play. “Students with higher EI may be better able t manage negative emtins, such as anxiety, bredm and disappintment, which can negatively affect academic perfrmance,” she said. “Als, these students may be better able t manage the scial wrld arund them, frming better relatinships with teachers, classmates and family, all f which are imprtant t academic success.” Finally, the skills required fr EI, such as understanding human mtivatin and emtin, may verlap with (與……重疊) the skills required t master certain subjects, such as histry and language, giving students an advantage in thse subject areas, accrding t MacCann.
Hwever, MacCann cautins against widespread testing f students t identify and target thse with lw EI as it may stigmatize (給…… Instead, she recmmends interventins that invlve the whle schl, including additinal teacher training and a fcus n teacher well-being and emtinal skills. “Prgrams that integrate emtinal skill develpment int the existing curriculum wuld be beneficial, as research suggests that training wrks better when run by teachers rather than external specialists,” she said. “Increasing skills fr everyne — nt just thse with lw EI—wuld benefit everyne.”
32. What surprised the researchers mst during MacCann’s study?
A. Intelligence mattered mre than EI fr academic success.
B. EI had an effect n learning fr students f all ages.
C. Cllege students benefited mre frm EI than pupils.
D. Persnality affected academic perfrmance greatly.
33. What can be a reasn fr the cnclusin f MacCann’s study?
A. High-EI students hardly experience negative emtins.
B. High-EI students seldm develp scial relatinships.
C. High-EI students tend t easily fcus n their study.
D. High-EI students have helpful skills fr certain subjects.
34. What des MacCann suggest in the last paragraph?
A. Equipping teachers with emtinal skills.
B. Designing tests t identify students with lw EI.
C. Develping special prgrams fr students with lw EI.
D. Emplying emtinal specialists t give training t students.
35. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
A. Shuld EI be taught in schl?

C. Students with high EI d better in schl
D. Gd students d better in managing emtins

Hwever, what is unbjectinable is als unremarkable.(可以理解的是,許多藝術(shù)家認(rèn)為,通過消除他們的音樂或形象中任何有人可能會(huì)反感的方面,他們會(huì)得到更多的商業(yè)成功。
根據(jù)第三段中的“It’s different fr everyne, I’m sure, but I think ne f the key factrs that make an artist cnnect with a fan is realness.(我敢肯定,對(duì)每個(gè)人來說都不一樣,但我認(rèn)為讓一個(gè)藝術(shù)家和粉絲聯(lián)系起來的關(guān)鍵因素之一是真實(shí)。)”
根據(jù)最后一段“This experience als made me think abut what rle I wanted t play in the music industry. I knew by then that I didn’t have the talent t be an artist myself. But I lved learning abut the music industry. I lved ding research n what makes an artist successful and why. I eventually figured ut that managers are the nes wh are in the best psitin t achieve that.”“(這段經(jīng)歷也讓我思考我想在音樂行業(yè)扮演什么角色。
29. A。 根據(jù)第二段“Cuntries set up custms psts at their brders. Freign travelers must g thrugh a custms inspectin befre they are allwed t travel in the cuntry. Usually travelers have t carry special papers such as passprts and visas (簽證). Sme cuntries even limit the number f visitrs t their cuntry each year. Others allw turists t visit nly certain areas f the cuntry, r they may require that travelers be with an fficial guide at all times during their stay.(各國(guó)在邊境設(shè)立了海關(guān)。 故選 A。
30. B。 根據(jù)第三段中的“When tw gvernments have cnflicts with each ther n imprtant matters, they usually d nt want their citizens t exchange news r ideas freely.(當(dāng)兩國(guó)政府在重要問題上發(fā)生沖突時(shí),他們通常不希望本國(guó)公民自由交換消息或觀點(diǎn)。)”
根據(jù)最后一段中的“Natural barriers that were difficult r dangerus t crss a hundred years ag can nw be crssed easily. The barriers that peple themselves make are nt s easy t vercme.(一百年前難以跨越的天然障礙現(xiàn)在可以輕松跨越。

根據(jù)第二段中的“What was mst surprising t the researchers was the assciatin held despite different ages.”
根據(jù)第三段中的“Finally, the skills required fr EI…may verlap with (與……重疊) the skills required t master certain subjects... an advantage in thse subject areas”可知,情商高的學(xué)生成績(jī)更好,其中一個(gè)原因是他們所具有的技能(如理解人類動(dòng)機(jī)和情感),與掌握某些學(xué)科(如歷史和語(yǔ)言)所需的技能重疊,因此在這些學(xué)科領(lǐng)域具有優(yōu)勢(shì)。
34. A。 根據(jù)最后一段中的“she recmmends interventins that invlve the whle schl, including additinal teacher training and a fcus n teacher well-being and emtinal skills”以及“training wrks better when run by teachers rather than external specialists”可知,MacCann建議整個(gè)學(xué)校都要重視情商的培養(yǎng),要給教師提供額外的培訓(xùn),關(guān)注教師健康以及情商培養(yǎng)技能,因?yàn)橛山處熍囵B(yǎng)學(xué)生的情商比外部專家更有效。
