Whether you are hoping to relax or you are looking forward to staying active in vacation, seeking out great hikes is a good choice. If you are planning a trip to southern California, or you live in San Diego, now it is time to search for new hiking trails(路線). Here are some of the most popular hikes in San Diego.
Cedar Creek Falls
For this hike, you'll hike from the Cedar Creek Falls to the Devil's Punch Bowl, which is a pool at the base of the Cedar Creek Falls. It can really heat up in the summer, and it is hard to hike, so be sure to pack lots of water and protein-filled snacks.
Cuyamaca Peak(頂峰)
The peak is in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, and you'll see plenty of snow-capped trees if you do this hike in the winter. There are 37 trails in the state park, but you'll want to stick to Azalea Glen Loop. It's a difficult seven-mile hike that will bring you right to Cuyamaca Peak.
Cowles Mountain
It is well known that Cowles Mountain is the highest point in San Diego-so it's worth visiting for the fact that you can see Mexico from the peak. The three-mile hike is quite difficult. If you are willing to wake up before the sun, Cowles Mountain is a beautiful spot to watch the sunrise. It's one of San Diego's most popular hikes, so starting early might also help avoid the crowds.
Swami's Beach
Take the trail from Swami's Beach to Cardiff Beach and you will experience impressive ocean views and the smooth sound of waves crashing onto the sand. As an easy out-and-back hike, the path is accessible(可進(jìn)入的)from Swami's Beach and is about three miles in total.
21. What do you need to take if you choose the Cedar Creek Falls?
A. A raincoat. B. Food and water. C. An umbrella. D. A hat and a map.
22. What is Cowles Mountain famous for?
A. The beautiful sunrise. B. The great length of the trail.
C. The difficult hiking trail. D. Being the peak in San Diego.
23. Which hiking trail will you choose if you want to see the sea?
A. Cedar Creek Falls. B. Cuyamaca Peak. C. Swami's Beach. D. Cowles Mountain.

One afternoon in 2013, something on the Internet caught my eye: a tiny hedgehog(刺猬)held by a big hand. The post read: "HELP! My hedgehog abandoned(拋棄)her two babies, and I cannot raise both of them because I have to go to school full-time. Good home with experience needed as soon as possible!"
I had no experience with baby hedgehogs. I was an animal person through and through and had raised cats, dogs, birds, and guinea pigs. But this tiny animal was new to me, and it touched me that he was abandoned, that maybe I could love him and be the best mom for him.
I wrote the most heartfelt email I could. That was how I found my Louie. True to my word, he was my baby. Louie didn't know he was a hedgehog. He never curled(蜷縮)into a ball, and he liked my two cats, no fear. The cats, however, were afraid of him, as he often moved into the room, running after the cats and blocking my way.
By the time he reached old age, Louie had only three feet. However, he still managed to climb the stairs to visit other animals. He helped me realize my dream of hedgehog photography, a hobby that began during childhood with cats and dollhouses, I love showing off his modeling.
Life has meaning because of the purpose we have. Louie needed a good home and mom, and in return, I got to be a good mother and be needed. Hedgehogs require great amounts of patience, trust, and knowledge—but the payoff(回報(bào))is pretty great.
24. The author got Louie from .
A. a family friend B. a pet shop
C. a hedgehog owner D. a hedgehog rescue center
25. How did Louie seem to feel at the author's home?
A. Frightened. B. Relaxed. C. Lonely. D. Tired.
26. What can we learn about Louie from paragraph 4?
A. He enjoyed being left alone.
B. He always refused to be in photos.
C. He disliked climbing stairs.
D. He was active though he had difficulty in moving.
27. What does the author say about raising Louie?
A. It was easier than expected. B. It made her lose her patience.
C. It gave her a sense of safety. D. It was satisfying and meaningful.

Directed by the AFM private company, National University of Science and Technology(NUST)MISIS engineers, together with the Karfidov Lab design group, have invented a machine named Salatomat that could serve meals to users in a very short time. The engineers say this machine cooks dishes from vegetables and cereals(谷物)in 30-60 seconds, so it can produce between 150 and 500 meals per day.
The cooking machine contains 16 basic ingredients-vegetables, cereals, potatoes, noodles-and 20 dressings and toppings. With this set, Salatomat can cook up to 1, 000 different dishes, with the user able to make a personal choice of products. These dishes are especially fit for those who live a healthy lifestyle or have some health problems.
"The machine has its own ‘brain’. It can remember users' choices and medical history. And it knows what is in it and what it can produce with the help of the RFID chip," said Aleksey Karfidov, head of the department of technological equipment engineering at NUST MISIS.
"The process begins with the preparation of products -putting ingredients into the robot, cutting vegetables, and controlling the temperature (cooling or heating, depending on the dish)," said Aleksey Karfidov. According to the developers, the robot is able to ensure the safety of food and quick preparation of well-balanced meals. The machine will also be completely non-contact-all cooking steps are carried out by itself.
All ingredients inside Salatomat are put into clean containers. Ingredients can be stored in the containers for eight hours at most, and if not used, they must be removed and cleaned.
28. What is Salatomat designed to do?
A. Store different foods. B. Help prepare meals.
C. Wash the dishes. D. Grow vegetables.
29. What can be inferred about Salatomat according to Aleksey Karfidov?
A. It's smart. B. It's unworkable. C. It's expensive. D. It's space-saving.
30. What does paragraph4 mainly talk about?
A. The way Salatomat works. B. The change Salatomat brings.
C. The cost of buying ingredients. D. The importance of food safety.
31. What should users notice when using Salatomat?
A. Clean it up after each use.
B. Mix everything together before it works.
C. Keep a close eye on its temperature.
D. Take out its ingredients stored over eight hours.

Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers. But last summer, Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son. Suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents. "The door to his room is always shut," Joanna noted.
Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter. "She used to cuddle up(依偎)against me on the sofa and talk, "said Mark." Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something. Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is understanding which time is which."
Before age 11, a child like to tell their parents what's on their mind. "In fact, parents are first on the list, "said Michael Riera, author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers. "This completely changes during the teen years," Riera explained." They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last."
Parents who know what's going on in their teenagers' lives are in the best position to help them.
To break down the wall of silence, parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them. And they must give their children a mental(思想的)break, for children also need freedom, though young. Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a manager, with their children is a better way to know them.
32. What does the sentence"The door to his room is always shut"suggest?
A. Her son is always busy with his study.
B. Her son keeps himself away from his parents.
C. Her son doesn't want to be ignored.
D. Her son begins to dislike his parents.
33. What troubles Tina and Mark most?
A. They can't read their daughter's mind exactly.
B. Their daughter isn't as lovely as before.
C. They don't know what to say to their daughter.
D. Their daughter talks with them only when she needs help.
34. Which of the following best explains"the wall of silence"in the last paragraph?
A. Teenagers talk a lot with their friends.
B. Teenagers talk little about their own lives.
C. Teenagers do not talk much with their parents.
D. Teenagers do not want to understand their parents.
35. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Parents shouldn't be angry with teenagers.
B. Parents have to talk with children face to face.
C. Parents are unhappy with their growing children.
D. Parents should try to understand their teenagers.

How to Make Friends at a New School Starting with a new school can be difficult. Everything seems to be different, and you don't even know where to go for your own classes. 36 However, if you use these skills, you can quickly turn some of those strangers into friends.
Be yourself.
37 If some people don't accept you, they're not the kind of friends you need. People often stay together because they have similar interests. For example, someone who does a lot of sport may make friends with those who also run or swim a lot.
38
Remember to be nice to the people you meet at your new school. If you think that you will say something that may make them feel sad, do not say anything and just nod your head if they talk to you. Also, remember to be as helpful as possible!
Bleveinr in yourself.
A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the halls, don't keep your eyes on the floor. Raise your head and make eye contact with other people. 39 Then introduce yourself. Tell them your name and where you're from.
Remember people's names.
You like it when people use your name, and so do other people. Tell them what your name is and what your nickname(綽號(hào))is, if you have one. 40 People may become angry if you just begin by saying "Hey" each time.
A. Be friendly to others.
B. Making new friends can be hard, too.
C. Join in after-school activities you like.
D. Never change who you are to try and fit in.
E. If you see someone you know, smile and say "Hi".
F. After that, ask them in a kind way if they have a nickname just like you.
G. Don't sit at the back of the classroom where other people don't notice you!

寫(xiě)作范文
Dear Lily, Learning that you don't know how to lose weight properly, I'm here sincerely offering some practical suggestions.
Firstly, doing regular exercise is an efficient way. It is vital that you should do some sports for an hour every day, including running, swimming, playing basketball and so on. Meanwhile, a balanced diet is also highly recommended. You are supposed to have more fruits and vegetables, thus greatly benefiting your health. More importantly, it is not safe to take weight-loss pills, which have side-effects and do harm to your body. Lastly, you'd better avoid eating junk food. such as hamburgers and potato chips, as they contain lots of fat.
Hopefully, you'll find the advice useful.
Yours,
Li Hua

W: On the 17th from 9: 00 a. m. to 12: 00 I will give a speech, and then I' ll fly to San Francisco at 1: 15 p. m. I have an interview in the office there from 5: 00 p. m. to 6: 30 p. m.
M: Yes, I heard about that. What's your schedule on the 18th?
W: I'm free in the morning. Then I' ll fly from San Francisco at 1: 30 p. m. and arrive in Shanghai on the 19th at 9: 40 in the evening.
M: Let me see…are you free for dinner on the 17th? I know a great seafood restaurant.
W: That sounds great.

M: Your attention please. There is a Red Ford Taurus parked blocking the building's entryway on the south side. Will the owner of this car please move it immediately? This area is meant for buses and taxis only. You may move your car to either parking lot on the east side or west side of the building. The one on the east side offers a free parking service for those with parking cards on the weekends. The parking service is available on the west side, on condition that you park there within half an hour. Today is Saturday, so I suggest you go to the east parking lot. Again, this is a Red Ford Taurus. The license plate number is 15FTU. If it is still blocking the entrance ten minutes from now, I am afraid we will have no choice but to call the service company and have it removed. So please, will the owner of this Red Ford Taurus move your car immediately?
