The Polish take great pride in their culture. Our culture has many different customs and traditions.I will discuss three of these traditions and customs.
The Polish will say “Dziekuje” (“thank you”) only after receiving their change. What I mean by this is that when you are in Poland, you should wait to say “thank you” until after you have been given your change back.If you do not,you are telling cashiers (收銀員) that they can “keep the change”.Often, people visiting Poland will feel that things are very expensive, until they learn that they are giving the store clerk permission to keep the money that would have been given back.
Polish people break “bread” with their families during their Christmas Eve meal. The Christmas Eve celebration starts with the breaking of the Oplatek, which is a thin piece of “bread”.In my family, the eldest in the family (my grandfather) takes the big Oplatek and breaks it into large pieces that he then hands down to each of his four children (my aunt, uncles, and father). Then, these family members break their pieces into smaller sizes and pass them out to their own children.Once the last piece is passed down to the youngest,we say a prayer (禱告) and eat the piece of thin bread.
Polish people celebrate “Imieniny”,or Name’s Day.This day is more important than one’s birthday. They often name their children after a saint (圣徒) whose day is closest to the date that they were born on.Then their saint’s day that they were named after becomes their “new” birthday. On Name’s Day,families and friends gather together and enjoy a variety of food, drinking, and dancing.
As you can see,Poland has a few very unique (獨(dú)特的) traditions and customs.I honor my Polish culture and will pass it on to my own children because it is important to know one’s own culture.
24. In Poland,if you say “Dziekuje” before getting your change,___________ .
A. the store clerk will keep it
B. the product will be changed
C. the store clerk will check the money
D. the product will be returned to the store
25. On Christmas Eve,the author will receive “bread” from ________ .
A. his grandfather B. his uncle
C. his aunt D. his father
26. A Polish person’s Imieniny is ________ .
A. a day to visit families and friends
B. more important than Name’s Day
C. near to his or her birthday
D. a day to honor a saint
27. What does the author think of Polish traditions and customs?
A. He feels proud of them.
B. He shows no interest in them.
C. He is worried about them.
D. He considers them very funny.

Cows produce much methane (甲烷), the world’s second worst greenhouse gas, as they break down the grass. They are a large source of the greenhouse gases that are driving climate change. Now scientists have shown the pollution from cows can be reduced by adding a little seaweed (海藻) to their food.
Recently, the researchers from the University of California studied 21 cows on a farm for about five months. They taught the cows to get their food from inside a special hood (罩), which allowed the scientists to know the amount of the methane the cows were giving off. They used a small amount of seaweed, which they mixed with the cows’ food.
The results were surprisingly good. In some cases, the cows produced 82% less methane. The improvement depended on the kind of food the cows were given. Even the worst-polluting cows produced 33% less methane. Over the five months, the scientists didn’t see any signs that the cows’ stomachs were getting used to the seaweed and starting to produce more methane again. What’s more, the cows that were fed seaweed gained just as much weight as the other cows.
But there are still some big problems with the idea of feeding cows seaweed. For one thing, there’s not enough seaweed to feed all of the cows in the world. So farmers would have to figure out a way to grow lots of seaweed. A bigger problem is that for most of their lives, cows live in the fields, where they eat grass. That means there’s no chance to feed them seaweed every day.
Still, it’s very good news that something as simple as feeding cows seaweed can help reduce some of the pollution causing the climate crisis.
28. Why did the researchers carry out the study?
A. To improve the cows’ welfare.
B. To test the effects of the seaweed.
C. To measure the amount of methane produced by cows.
D To discover healthier grass to reduce the pollution from cows.
29. What’s the third paragraph mainly about?
A. The results of the study.
B. The process of the research.
C. The content of the experiment.
D. The information of the subjects.
30. What is the biggest challenge in the researchers’ opinion?
A. Seaweed is pretty rare in the world.
B. It’s hard to mix seaweed with grass.
C. Cows fed with seaweed gained weight easily.
D. Cows can hardly have daily access to seaweed.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards the findings?
A. Doubtful. B. Negative.
C. Unclear. D. Positive.
【答案】28. B 29. A 30. D 31. D

【29題詳解】
主旨大意題。根據(jù)第三段的“The consequences were surprisingly good. What makes preschoolers eat their vegetables? Raise their hand? Wait their turn? “Because I say so” is a comment that parents often repeat. But when it comes to getting kids to behave, a recent study by Duke University researchers suggests that the voice of adult authority isn’t the only thing that matters. Around age three, fitting in with the group starts to count big too.
To understand what cause preschoolers to fall in line, the researchers conducted a test in a lab, where they invited 3.5-year-olds to help set up for a pretend tea party. Each of the 104 children was given a blue sticker(貼紙)to wear at the start of the study, and told that the people with that color sticker were part of the same team. Next the researchers watched as the children decided among different kinds of teas, snacks, cups and plates for the tea party, first on their own and then after listening to the choices of other team members.
Sometimes the other team members considered their choice as a matter of personal preference (“For my tea party today, I feel like using this snack.”) Other times they presented it as a need shared by the whole group. (“For our tea parties today, we always use this kind of snack.”)
After listening to the choices of others, most of the time the children stuck with their first choice. In other words, children who had said they felt like using, say, the cookie finally picked the cookie no matter what the other person said they were using. But 23% of the time the children changed their choice to accept someone else’s. And when they did, they were more likely to go along with the other person when a choice was presented as a group need rather than just a personal preference. The finding held up even when the other person was another child, not an adult.
32. What’s the recent study mainly about?
A. Parent training. B. Social rules.
C. Child behavior. D. Eating habits.
33. What does the underlined word “fall in line” refer to in paragraph 2?
A. Stand in a line. B. Join the group.
C. Listen to the parents. D. Attend a party.
34. What made children accept others’ choice?
A. The common need. B. The advice of adults.
C. The delicious cookie. D. The individual preference.
35. Which of the following is suitable title for the text?
A. Adults Are Losing Their Authority
B. 3-Year-Olds Want to Fit into the Group.
C. Children Are Not Born Knowing What to Do
D. Kids Are Acting Out of a Sense of Copying Adults.

Good afternoon, my dear classmates/fellow students!
With the wide spread of the Internet, we have easy access to almost everything we want to know. Meanwhile, there are also hidden/potential dangers that we can’t see through. Then what should we do to stay safe online?
First of all, don’t click on any strange link so as to avoid property loss. Second, protect your privacy. Don’t give away your personal information like name or address, and never see strangers you meet online. Finally, always be polite in the virtual world. Try not to be a target for a cyberbully.
Only when we obey the rules above can we build a healthy and harmonious online world.
Thank you!

Mary waited anxiously for her turn in the empty dressing room. Never had she been so nervous before. This competition was of great importance to her comeback. “If I can win today,” she said to herself, “I can dance on the national stage next month.” Three months ago, her left arm was seriously injured in a car accident. After the medical treatment, she began to recover slowly. She practiced over and over again in order to regain her dancing skills.
“Hi, Mary,” in rushed her friend Jessica. “How is your arm? Is it going to influence your performance?”
“I guess it can be tolerated for I am to win the match.” said Mary with a determined look.
“Admirable! But I hear that a girl called Linda is really gifted and strong. She can be your real well-matched competitor. Come on!”
After Jessica left, Mary decided to practice her most difficult spin (旋轉(zhuǎn)). “If I don’t try harder, I won’t grasp this chance.” She thought. But her arm began to hurt, making her worried. “Mary, what makes you think you have a chance tonight?” she said to herself. After the pain was gone, she continued to warm up.
A slim girl hurried in and put down an equipment bag on the chair. Then, she took out her dance dress quickly and put it on skillfully. Seeing Mary, she smiled politely and said “Hi, I’m Linda. I am the next one to you!” Mary nodded in reply but felt uncomfortable. “This is just my competitor. Because of her, I may lose tonight.” Her mind was wandering when Linda let out a scream, “Oh, God, I can’t find my music tape!” Linda searched her bag but in vain (徒勞). “It may be missing on the way.” With these words, she then rushed out.
