Top Exhibitions to See in London in 2023
Architectural: Vanishing Points
While we like to think of architecture existing purely in the real world, emerging designers and architects are using platforms like Instagram to create structures in the virtual world. This collection of works, which range from the practical to the fantastical, are all by architects who have gathered significant social media followings.
In the Digital Universe at ROCA London. 8 February—31 July, free.
Flowery: Orchids
This annual festival is back in bloom (開花), this time inspired by the beauty and biodiversity of Cameroon. Female Abstraction: Action, Gesture, Paint
Art history has often shone a light on the men of Abstract Expressionism, such as Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko. Well, now’s the time to let the most important women of the movement take the limelight in an exhibition that includes works by American artists such as Lee Krasner and Helen Frankenthaler, but spreads the net wider to include the female abstract artists from Europe, Asia and the wider world, with whom most of us will be unfamiliar.
At Whitechapel Gallery. 9 February—7 May, £ 16.50—concessions available.
Powerful Portraits (肖像): Alice Neel
The largest UK exhibition to date of American painter Alice Neel’s work will bring together her figurative pieces from across her 60-year career. Neel went against the popular grain by painting figures when abstract works were most popular, and she painted subjects that other artists ignored — pregnant women, labour leaders, black children, civil rights activists and strange performers. It’s high time we had a major show of her work in London, and the Barbican has duly provided.

【2023屆廣西壯族自治區(qū)貴港市三模試題】
A
I’ve consulted several travel experts and found out the top places in the USA worth visiting.
Where: New Orleans, Louisiana
Why: New Orleans is known for its music and food scene—not to mention the festivals.
It has about 130 festivals each year so there’s really no bad time to visit. Bourbon Street is the obvious choice for food, drink and jazz and it’s definitely a mustvisit location, especially for firsttimers to the city.
Where: Vail, Colorado
Why: Vail is the perfect destination for travelers looking to find almost everything in one central spot. Stay at the amazing Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail to be steps away from Vail Village, a popular spot with cobblestone (鵝卵石) streets for wandering leisurely. The country’s largest free transportation system runs frequently, making it easy to access almost anywhere from Vail Village to Lionshead Village.
Where: Hudson Valley, New York
Why: The Hudson Valley is where New Yorkers go to escape the city’s noises when they need a healthy treatment of nature and relaxation. Just an hour and a half drive north of New York City, the Hudson Valley is made up of small, impossibly charming towns, where the air is fresher and things do move slower in the mountains.
1.What is New Orleans famous for?
A.Various festivals. B.Musical instruments.

Thanksgiving is almost here, which means many families are getting ready to enjoy a tradition that goes back hundreds of years: baking and eating delicious pie. Two classic desserts will battle it out at holiday tables. Is pumpkin pie better than apple pie?
Yes—pumpkin is perfect
Three reasons why pumpkin pie is better than apple pie
1. As one of America’s first crops, pumpkin has become fall’s signature flavor since the early 18th century. Even 300 years ago, Americans knew it was the best pie.
2. With its warm, comforting mix of cinnamon (肉桂), nutmeg (豆蔻), and other spices, delicious pumpkin pie gives you perfect bites that melt in your mouth, which simply can’t be beaten.
3. As a bonus, pumpkins are packed full of vitamins and nutrients that are good for your body. So cut a perfectly shaped slice of pumpkin goodness and dig in.
No—apple pie all the way
Three reasons why pumpkin pie is not better than apple pie
1. Apple pie is just about as old as our country and even appeared in America’s first cookbook. Have you heard the expression “It’s as American as apple pie”? No one says that about pumpkin pie!
2. There are countless variations on the classic, with different spices and flavorings, dried fruits and nuts, and different crusts (酥皮). Apple pie is the clear winner for people who love the balance of fruit and buttery pie crust.
3. To quote another expression, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” That means apples are nutritious and help keep us healthy.
Now that you’ve read a bit more about this issue, click here to vote in our debate. Vote YES if you think pumpkin pie is better than apple pie or NO if you don’t. We’ll publish the results next week.
21.What do pumpkin pie and apple pie have in common?
a. They are full of nutrients.
b. They have similar flavor.
c. They have deep roots in America.
A.a(chǎn)b. B.bc. C.a(chǎn)c. D.a(chǎn)bc.
22.Where can the text be found?
A.On a menu. B.On a website. C.In a magazine. D.In a cookbook.
23.What’s the purpose of the text?
A.To invite readers to vote in a debate.
B.To distinguish pumpkin pie from apple pie.
C.To advertise pumpkin pie is better than apple pie.
D.To encourage baking and eating pie at Thanksgiving.
【答案】21.C 22.B 23.A

21.細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)Yes—pumpkin is perfect中的“As one of America’s first crops, pumpkin has become fall’s signature flavor since the early 18th century. Apple pie is the clear winner for people who love the balance of fruit and buttery pie crust.( 在經(jīng)典的基礎(chǔ)上有無數(shù)的變化,不同的香料和調(diào)味料,干果和堅果,以及不同的面包皮。對于喜歡水果和黃油派皮平衡的人來說,蘋果派無疑是贏家。) ”可知兩者口感不一樣,南瓜派入口即化,蘋果派有不同的酥皮;可知二者富含營養(yǎng)且在美國有著深厚的根基。故選C項。
22.推理判斷題。根據(jù)最后一段“Now that you’ve read a bit more about this issue, click here to vote in our debate. (現(xiàn)在你已經(jīng)閱讀了更多關(guān)于這個問題的內(nèi)容,點擊這里在我們的辯論中投票。)”可知點擊此處可投票,所以這篇文章可能來自網(wǎng)站上,故選B項。
