Zhang Guimei showed us how to be a good teacher and the importance of a teacher in students’ lives.
In 2009, Zhang Guimei set up the Huaping High School for Girls in Lijiang, Yunnan Province. This was a special school which was free for girls in poor families. In 2003, Zhang began to raise money for the school, but what she did was often met with suspicion and even misunderstanding. Between 2003 and 2007, Zhang spent her spare time asking people to give money to her school. However, the money she got was far from enough. In 2007, after her dream was reported by media (媒體), the government promised to help her project.
Zhang carries on strict school rules. She plans every minute of her students’ timetable. At 5:20 am, she wakes up all the girls. They must take a nap (小睡) in the afternoon. They are only allowed three hours a week outside of the school. And having long hair is not allowed. She wants to change the lives of many girls from poor families through education.
Eleven years later, over 1,600 girl students from the school have received higher education—including many famous universities in China.

As temperatures began dropping in South Florida, the US National Weather Service began warning people that iguanas (美洲蜥蜴) might soon fall from trees. It didn’t take long for the prediction (預(yù)言) to come true when the temperatures fell lower and lower. Several people posted pictures of the fallen iguanas on social media (媒體). One person wrote, “It’s true. A lot of iguanas are falling from trees in South Florida.”
What happened? Iguanas are cold-blooded. That means they don’t make their own body heat like humans. Instead, they get their warmth from their environment. When it’s too cold, iguanas fall into a kind of sleep. For iguanas in trees, that means they can lose their hold and fall to the ground.
If you don’t think it seems natural for iguanas to have this problem, you’re right. Green iguanas aren’t actually supposed to be in Florida at all. They were from warmer places. They were brought to Florida by accident (意外). Some were carried on ships. Others came as pets and got free.
Even though iguanas may look dead, they’re usually not. This weekend, people in Florida were warned not to bring iguanas inside to warm them up. Once they recover (恢復(fù)), they’re not always friendly.
50.What might happen to iguanas if the temperatures falls lower and lower?
A.They might make their own body heat.
B.They might stay in trees to keep warm.
C.They might lose their hold and fall to the ground.
D.They might die because of the cold weather.
51.Why doesn’t it seem natural for iguanas to fall from the trees?
A.Because they like the cold.
B.Because they usually live in warm places.
C.Because they stay under trees.
D.Because they were brought by accident.
52.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Iguanas can recover very easily.
B.Iguanas will die if they fall from trees.
C.Iguanas can get along well with people.
D.It’s not safe to bring fallen iguanas back home.
五、閱讀回答問題
閱讀下面短文,并用英語回答問題(請注意每小題后面的詞數(shù)要求)。
A good dictionary is an important tool. It will tell you not only what a word means but also how to use it. A dictionary needs to be printed again about every ten years. Languages develop and a good dictionary must show these new changes.
Every dictionary, of course, tells you what a word means. But some words, like “get” or “take”, may have lots of meanings. In some dictionaries, the main meanings are often listed first, while the newest meanings are listed last. So before you use your dictionary you should always read the front part, because this part explains how it is used properly.
Some dictionaries also show you the origin (起源) of a word. Do you know that the word “brand” (標(biāo)記) comes from an old word? This old word means “to burn”. This is because hundreds of years ago, people burned their names on tables or boats to show who made them. They also burned their own names on their farm animals so that they would not be stolen.
Your dictionary also has a lot of other interesting facts in it. After you have learned to use a dictionary, it can become your best useful book.
53.Why does a dictionary need to be printed again about every ten years? (不超過15個詞)
54.What should you do before you use a dictionary? (不超過10個詞)
