Moving to a foreign country is an amazing, life-changing experience. It's an opportunity to meet new people, make yourself completely involved in a different culture and possibly learn another language. However, before embarking on such an adventure, there are some practical decisions that need to be made. One such decision is choosing where to live.
For me, choosing to live with a French family was the best choice I made, and here is why.
Firstly, a family can show you around the city or town and help you settle in, stopping you from feeling lonely. When you're in a new environment with people you don't know and who are speaking a language you're still not fluent in, you might feel lost, tired and homesick——I know I did. However, my host family were wonderful and welcome;they showed me which buses to take to get to work and cooked dinner for me so we could eat together, and took me with them on trips to the beach, the theatre and even a bullfight. These were great opportunities to experience French culture and build relationships, which in turn helped me feel more comfortable and welcome.
Moreover, living with French people has been brilliant for helping me improve my language skills. Being constantly exposed to authentic French conversation has allowed me to learn new phrases, widen my vocabulary and even improve my accent. My host family are happy to answer my questions and correct me when I say things wrong, which makes me a better and more confident French speaker.
Finally, the experience of living abroad is one that you will remember forever, and perhaps the friendships——like the memories——will also last. Your host family might become your friends for life. You might return for their birthdays, weddings, holidays, and much more. I hope to remain in contact with my host family long after I leave France because when I was away from my friends and loved ones, they welcomed me and made me part of their family.
24. What does the underlined phrase“embarking on”in Paragraph 1 refer to?

Bananas are one of the healthiest fruits you can eat, being loaded with protein, fiber, vitamins A, B6, and C, etc. Bananas are delicious on their own as well. But we're not here today to talk about the banana fruit, but rather its peel. Generally thrown away as waste, banana peels(皮) actually bring about different uses.
Starting off with a topical benefit, banana peels are great for relieving the painful itch(瘙癢) of bug bites. Science hasn't figured out why it works, but you can't argue with results. People who have tried it report that it is really useful.
There are lots of expensive ways to white n teeth, and a lot of them use bleaching agents(漂白劑) which weaken teeth and can cause sensitivity. But guess what? Banana peels can white n teeth naturally and gently due to their potassium(鉀) content.
Banana peels contain a lot of antioxidants that are great for your skin. To reduce the look of lines and wrinkles, simply rub a banana peel directly on the affected areas and wash your face 30 minutes later.
It is fiber once again that can lower your cholesterol(膽固醇) levels, which is critical to maintaining a healthy heart. Banana peels contain more soluble fiber than the fruit itself, so throwing away the peel wastes a valuable opportunity to bump your intake. And finally, you can actually rub a banana peel on shoes, leather, and silver articles to clean them up and make them shine.
Whether you eat them or use them, banana peels don't save very well. Once removed from the fruit, they blacken pretty quickly. It's best to prepare and consume banana peels right away. However, one thing is for sure——you will stop throwing these valuable wrappers in the trash after you discover all the incredible things they can do.

D . Try to save their peels in good condition.

Scientists have long sought to prevent sharp memories from dulling with age, but the problem is hard to solve. New research suggests Virtual Reality (VR) might help older people recall facts and events based on specific details.
The study involved 42 healthy older adults from the San Francisco Bay Area. Half spent a dozen hours over four weeks playing a virtual-reality game called Labyrinth. They wore headsets and walked in place, wandering virtual neighborhoods while completing missions. The other half, in the control group, used computers to play games that did not require navigationg(導航) or recalling details. After 15 sessions, the latter performed much the same as before on a long-term memory test based on picking out objects they had seen about an hour earlier. But the Labyrinth players' scores rose, and they were less frequently tricked by objects that were similar to ones they had viewed.
“The improvement brought them back up to the level of another group of younger adults who did the same memory tests,” said cognitive neuroscientist Peter Wais of the University of California, San Francisco. He and his colleagues designed the VR game, which they say likely stimulates(刺激) the hippocampus—— a brain area that is important for long-term memory. The team did not observe improvement on two other tests, which measured autobiographical memory(自傳體記憶) and spatial memory capability.
“It would be great to actually follow people over time and see what this type of game does for long-term memory,” said Meredith Thompson, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology education researcher. Daniel Simons, a cognitive psychologist, said that testing three measures, instead of just one, would increase the possibility of finding an improvement. And it remains uncle ar how test performance in a laboratory setting might translate to real-world situations. Simons notes,“The outcome needs to be repeated, ideally with a much larger group, before it is treated as a strong finding.”
Wais's team is now investigating how long the observed effects last and which elements of the training have the most impact.
32. What does the study show?
A. Human memories get worse as they age.
B. The elderly are weak in observing details.
C. VR may improve the memory of the elderly.
D. VR games are more popular among the aged.
33. What can we infer from paragraph 3?
A. VR games make people feel younger.
B. Good memory skills depend on long-term training.
C. VR games do not work in all types of memory tests.
D. The elderly score higher than younger adults in the tests.
34. What is Daniel Simons’ attitude to the outcome of the study?
A. Cautious B. Supportive C. Ambiguous D. Disapproving
35. Where can we probably read this text?
A. In a scientific report. B. In a health magazine.
C. In a fiction novel. D. In a medical journal.
第二節(jié)(共5小題,每小題2分,滿分10分)
根據(jù)短文內容,從短文后的選項中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項。所給選項中有兩項為多余選項。
Habit formation is not so simple. By employing the following strategies, you'll speed up the process and ensure your new habit sticks.
Define (確定) small, specific goals
36 For example, you may want to keep a more organized home or turn in schoolwork on time. These big goals are necessary for your long-term motivation, but they won't help you develop and stick with new habits.
A habit is simply a repeated behavior. Before you can develop a new habit, you'll need to define a small, specific behavioral goal. For example, instead of“be more organized”, try“do laundry every Sunday morning”. This goal works because it's concrete. 37
Get a partner
We might sometimes fail to meet our own expectations, but we hate to let our friends and family down. A partner can help in a number of different ways. Sometimes, simply telling another person that you're trying to form a new habit is enough to keep you on track. 38 If you're trying to build an exercise habit, find a friend who wants to hit the gym and set up a shared workout schedule.
Use reminders
Experiment with post-it notes, to-do lists, daily phone alarms, and any other tool you can use to create external (外部的) reminders.
39 If you find yourself trapped in an unhelpful thought process, you can use mental reminders to break the pattern. Choose a statement to repeat whenever negative thoughts arise.
Give yourself time
Remember that habit formation is not a straight upward trajectory (軌道). If you slip up(失誤) one day, don't stress out. 40 Developing new habits takes time, but with a smart, strategic approach, your habits will last for life.
A. Mental reminders are also important.
B. Think about the barriers that might be stopping you.
C. One small mistake will not erase the work you've already done.
D. A partner can also be someone working towards the same goal as you.
E. It's a behavior that you can repeat over and over until it becomes a habit.
F. If you're working on habit development, you probably have big goals in mind.
G. How long it takes to reform an old habit depends on the strength of the old behavior.
