第一節(jié)(共15小題;每小題2分,滿分30分)
A
Everyone has worries. How do you deal with your worries? There is always something you can do to help yourself feel less worried. Sitting there worrying is no fun and it won’t solve your problems.
Grades (分數(shù)) at school are often a top worry for children. If you worry most about grades, ask yourself these questions:
● Why are grades important? What do grades mean to me?
● How do I get ready for class? Do I go over my notes even when there isn’t a test?
● Do I have a good place to do my homework?
● Have I tried different ways of studying?
If your worry is about a fight you had with your friend, you might write down all the things you could do—write a note to him or her, invite him or her to watch a basketball game, say sorry to him or her and so on. Once you have a list of things you could do, you can choose one thing that could get your friend back.
You can ask for help when you’re worried. You can find someone to talk to, such as your parents, friends, and teachers.

For as long as we can remember, one of the most popular ways parents use to punish their children has been the “time out”.
It seems that it is a good idea: the child sits on his own to reflect (反思)what he has done. Then, when the time is up, he will apologize and learn from the mistake.
However, just because it’s something that’s been done for years, that doesn’t mean it is the right thing to do. In fact, very often, children don’t sit nicely and think about what they’ve done. Instead, they need to be told a few(or many)times to go back to their places and stay quiet. They’re not reflecting why they are in the “time out” at all. More likely than not, they’re probably just really angry, and “so” are the parents. In the end, both the parents and the children make each other unhappy, or even angry.
What can parents do to change this situation? You may have already heard of things like peaceful parenting(育兒)and gentle parenting. These focus on the relationship between parents and children through building trust and love. So, instead of starting a “time out”, try something called “time in”. A “time in” needs both the parent and the child to stay close until both get calm. After that, the parent and the child can discuss what happened and solve the problem together. If the child can make changes, everyone can then move on.
As we all know, punishment and violence (暴力)seldom work and will never teach the children what the right way to act is. A “time in” can be the great time for children to learn through mistakes. Kids learn how to build their emotional and social skills through difficult situations. So, instead of punishing them, we can use chances to teach and guide them to a place of learning.
A “time in” may take more time, but it does work.
38. During a “time out”, a child is told to ________.
A. stay outside
B. make a promise
C. sit alone and reflect
D. return to school
39. In the writer’s opinion, a “time out” ________.
A. is becoming more popular
B. doesn’t always work
C. should be parents’ first choice
D. takes too much time
40. When a child has done something wrong, the writer suggests that _______.
A. both teachers and parents should discuss how to solve the problem
B. parents should try something called “time in” instead of “time out”
C. the child should say sorry to his or her parents and learn from mistakes
D. the child should stay at home and reflect until he or she never makes mistakes
41. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. Why not “time in”?
B. Learn from mistakes
C. “Time out” or “time in”?
D. No violence at home!
答案
38—41
D
We feel angry or guilty about the things we did or did not achieve, about the things we cannot have, and many other things. It seems that everyone carries their own bad moods. But neither guilt nor anger can help us. Over time, they can be heavy weights on our shoulders.
These bad moods don’t do anything good for us at all. So you might ask yourself — is it possible to put down this heavy burden (負擔) and give yourself a break? It is quite possible. Start by actually looking at your feelings. How do they get inside of us? Why do we carry them for so long instead of putting them down? Can we live without them?
By thinking about our bad moods, we can find healthy ways to deal with them. Unhealthy behaviors are not the way to do this. They provide no relief. Instead, there are better ways to deal with them. One of the best ways is forgiveness (諒解).
Forgiveness is a powerful tool. We should forgive ourselves first. We shouldn’t keep bad moods inside. We must also forgive others who have made us guilty or angry. This is not always easy. But when we learn to forgive ourselves, it becomes easier to forgive others as well.
There is nothing good about carrying years of emotional burdens. By forgiving ourselves and others, we can abandon our burdens and feel better about ourselves. The moment you do this, you will start to feel a lot lighter. Years of heaviness will be magically lifted! You’ll start to feel like you have more energy and you’ll be much happier with your life.
42. What is the first step to removing the burden of bad moods?
A. Asking others questions.
B. Studying your moods.
C. Trying to live without them.
D. Keeping them in your mind.
43. What is one way to deal with bad moods?
A. Keeping bad moods inside.
B. Forgetting the past.
C. Forgiving ourselves and others.
D. Sharing good moods.
44. What does the underlined word “abandon” in the last paragraph mean?
A. put away
B. carry on
C. stay with
D. give up
45. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Forget about Forgiveness
B. Forgive Your Mistakes
C. Become an Energetic Person
D. Clear Yourself of Burdens

六、范文:
Dear Jack,
Thank you for your letter. I know as a student in Grade 9, you have some problems. I hope I can help you.
You said you have many exams and every subject is harder than before. You have a lot of homework. Plan your day carefully. Try to manage your time better. You had better choose some hobbies when you are free because hobbies are very important to you. Before the exams, you should go over what you have learnt as often as possible. Your parents always care about you, so you can talk to them about your problems. Sometimes they can offer you some valuable suggestions. Try your best in your study and enjoy your school life.
You also said that you are often in a bad mood. Making friends and doing sports may be good ideas to help you solve your problems. So just take action and you will be better and better.
Yours sincerely,
Sigmund Friend
添彩點:文中try to do sth., had better do sth. , go over, as often as possible, care about, talk to sb. about sth., take action 等詞句的運用,使文章更豐富、更飽滿,這些都是文章的亮點所在。
