A
In the summer of 2016, I gave a talk at a small conference in northern Virginia. I began by admitting that I’d never had a social-media account; I then outlined arguments for why other people should consider removing social media from their lives. The event organizers uploaded the video of my talk to YouTube. Then it was shared repeatedly on Facebook and Instagram and, eventually, viewed more than five million times. I was both pleased and annoyed by the fact that my anti-social-media talk had found such a large audience on social media.
I think of this event as typical of the love-hate relationships many of us have with Facebook, Instagram, and other social-media platforms. On the one hand, we’ve grown cautious about the so-called attention economy, which, in the name of corporate(公司的)profits, destroys social life gradually and offends privacy. But we also benefit from social media and hesitate to break away from it completely. Not long ago, I met a partner at a large law firm in Washington, D.C., who told me that she keeps Instagram on her phone because she misses her kids when she travels; looking through pictures of them makes her feel better.
In recent months, some of the biggest social-media companies, Facebook and Twitter, in particular, have promised various reforms. In March, Mark Zuckerberg announced a plan to move his platform toward private communication protected by end-to-end encryption(端對(duì)端加密); later that month, he put forward the establishment of a third-party group to set standards for acceptable content.
All of these approaches assume that the reformation of social media will be a complex, lengthy, and gradual process. But not everyone sees it that way. Alongside these official responses, a loose collective of developers that calls itself the Indie Web has been creating another alternative. They are developing their own social-media platforms, which they say will preserve what’s good about social media while getting rid of what’s bad. They hope to rebuild social media according to principles that are less corporate and more humane(人道的).
21.Why did the author feel annoyed when his video was spread online?
A.His video caused many arguments.
B.His video’s popularity on social media is against his talk.
C.His talk was opposed by a large amount of people.
D.His video was shared without his permission.
22.Why does the author mention the story of his partner in paragraph 2?
A.To prove that social media has some benefits.
B.To advise people to break away from social media.
C.To tell the negative effects social media may produce.
D.To describe people’s complicated relationships with social media.
23.What is the purpose of the reform made by some social-media companies?
A.To improve network environment. B.To set network standards.
C.To make more profits. D.To provide more convenient service.
24.What does the Indie Web intend to do?
A.Improve the existing social-media principles.
B.Remove social media from people’s lives.
C.Develop new social-media platforms.
D.Help social-media companies to make reformation.
25.What does the underlined word “outlined”(in paragraph 1)mean?
A.expected B.criticized C.summarized D.rejected
21.B 22.A 23.A 24.C 25.C
根據(jù)第一段的“I was both pleased and annoyed by the fact that my anti-social-media talk had found such a large audience on social media. (我的反社交媒體演講在社交媒體上找到了如此多的聽(tīng)眾,這讓我既高興又惱火)”可知,作者反對(duì)社交媒體,但是他有關(guān)的演講卻在社交媒體上獲得喜歡,這讓作者又喜又怒,很是矛盾。因此可知作者生氣的原因是他的演講視頻的受歡迎程度是與他反社交媒體的行為相對(duì)立的。故選B項(xiàng)。
22.推理判斷題。根據(jù)第二段的“But we also benefit from social media and hesitate to break away from it completely. Not long ago, I met a partner at a large law firm in Washington, D.C., who told me that she keeps Instagram on her phone because she misses her kids when she travels; looking through pictures of them makes her feel better. 故選A項(xiàng)。
根據(jù)第三段中的“In March, Mark Zuckerberg announced a plan to move his platform toward private communication protected by end-to-end encryption(端對(duì)端加密); later that month, he put forward the establishment of a third-party group to set standards for acceptable content. (今年3月,馬克?扎克伯格宣布了一項(xiàng)計(jì)劃,將他的平臺(tái)轉(zhuǎn)向受端到端加密保護(hù)的私人通信;當(dāng)月晚些時(shí)候,他提議成立一個(gè)第三方小組,為可接受的內(nèi)容設(shè)定標(biāo)準(zhǔn))”以及第四段的“They are developing their own social-media platforms, which they say will preserve what’s good about social media while getting rid of what’s bad.(他們正在開(kāi)發(fā)自己的社交媒體平臺(tái),他們說(shuō)這將保留社交媒體的優(yōu)點(diǎn),同時(shí)去除缺點(diǎn))”可知,社交媒體上存在一些不安全因素,進(jìn)行改革可以保留好的,去除不好的內(nèi)容,因此社交媒體公司進(jìn)行改革的目的其實(shí)是在改善網(wǎng)絡(luò)環(huán)境。故選A項(xiàng)。
根據(jù)最后一段的“Alongside these official responses, a loose collective of developers that calls itself the Indie Web has been creating another alternative. They are developing their own social-media platforms, which they say will preserve what’s good about social media while getting rid of what’s bad.(除了這些官方回應(yīng),一個(gè)自稱(chēng)為獨(dú)立網(wǎng)絡(luò)的松散的開(kāi)發(fā)者群體一直在創(chuàng)造另一種選擇。他們正在開(kāi)發(fā)自己的社交媒體平臺(tái),他們說(shuō)這將保留社交媒體的優(yōu)點(diǎn),同時(shí)去除缺點(diǎn))”可知,Indie Web想要開(kāi)發(fā)他們自己社交媒體平臺(tái),這樣他們可以保留好的內(nèi)容和去除不好的內(nèi)容。故選C項(xiàng)。
25.詞句猜測(cè)題。根據(jù)第一段的“I began by admitting that I’d never had a social-media account; I then outlined arguments for why other people should consider removing social media from their lives.(我開(kāi)始承認(rèn)我從未有過(guò)社交媒體賬戶(hù);然后,我outlined了為什么其他人應(yīng)該考慮將社交媒體從他們的生活中移除的理由)”可知,作者沒(méi)有社交媒體賬號(hào),他反對(duì)使用社交媒體,因此可知他總結(jié)一些觀點(diǎn)來(lái)說(shuō)明為什么其他人可以要考慮將社交媒體移出他們的生活,故可推斷劃線詞意為“概括,概述”,與summarize“概述”意義相近。故選C項(xiàng)。
B
My elder brother Steve, in the absence of my father who died when I was six, gave me important lessons in values that helped me grow into an adult. For instance, Steve taught me to face the results of my behavior. Once when I returned in tears from a Saturday baseball game, it was Steve who took the time to ask me what happened. When I explained that my baseball had soared through Mrs. Holt’s basement window, breaking the glass with a crash, Steve encouraged me to confess (認(rèn)罪) to her. After all, I should have been playing in the park down Fifth Street and not in the path between buildings. Although my knees knocked as I explained to Mrs. Holt, I offered to pay for the window from my pocket money if she would return my ball. I also learned from Steve that personal property is a sacred (神圣的) thing. After I found a shiny silver pen in my fifth-grade classroom, I wanted to keep it, but Steve explained that it might be important to someone else in spite of the fact that it had little value. He reminded me of how much I’d hate to lose to someone else the small dog my father carved from a piece of cheap wood. I returned the pen to my teacher, Mrs. Davids, and still remembered the smell of her perfume as she patted me on my shoulder. Yet of all the instructions Steve gave me, his respect for life is the most vivid in my mind. When I was twelve I killed an old brown sparrow in the yard with a BB gun. Excited with my accuracy, I screamed to Steve to come from the house to take a look. I shall never forget the way he stood for a long moment and stared at the bird on the ground. Then in a dead, quiet voice, he asked, “Did it hurt you first, Mark?” I didn’t know what to answer. He continued with his eyes firm, “The only time you should even think of hurting a living thing is if it hurts you first. And then you think a long, long time.” I really felt terrible then, but that moment stands out as the most important lesson my brother taught me.
26.What is the main subject of the passage?
A.The relationship between Mark and Steve.
B.The important lesson Mark learned in school
C.Steve’s important role in Mark’s growing process.
D.Mark and Steve’s respect for living things.
27.It can be inferred from the passage that when Mark confessed to Mrs. Holt, ________.
A.he felt surprised B.he was light-hearted
C.he felt frightened D.he knelt before her
28.In the story about the pen, which of the following lessons did Steve teach his brother?
A.Respect for personal property.
B.Respect for life.
C.Sympathy for people with problems.
D.The value of honesty.
29.According to the writer, which was the most important lesson Steve taught his young brother?
A.Respect for living things.
B.Responsibility for one’s actions.

D.Care for the property of others.
30.Which of the follow is true according to the passage?
A.Mark was still a boy when he wrote this passage.
B.Mark lost the small dog his father gave him.
C.When a living thing hurts you, you should kill it.

根據(jù)文章“My elder brother Steve, in the absence of my father who died when I was six, gave me important lessons in values that helped me grow into an adult.”
根據(jù)文章“Although my knees knocked as I explained to Mrs. Holt, I offered to pay for the window from my pocket money if she would return my ball.(盡管我向Mrs. Holt太太解釋時(shí)膝蓋都在顫抖,但如果她愿意還我的球,我還是提出用我的零用錢(qián)來(lái)支付窗戶(hù)的費(fèi)用)”推知,當(dāng)作者向Mrs. Holt解釋時(shí)感到非常的害怕,故選C。

30.細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)文章“He continued with his eyes firm, “The only time you should even think of hurting a living thing is if it hurts you first. Do you always get angry about something? Do you always take things too personally? Do you find yourself thinking people are laughing at you in public places? ___31___ If you are sensitive about something, you are easily worried and angry when people talk about it.
___32___ Actually, sensitive people can appreciate food, the sound of music, the different colors of nature, or even traffic. They can also notice small differences in meaning, making them more emotionally(感情上地) intelligent and more creative.
However, it can also be a terrible burden(負(fù)擔(dān)) if left uncared for. ___33___ So you should do something to stop being too sensitive. For example, recognize those people who often leave you feeling tired in life and avoid them. Instead, surround yourself with people who will make you feel bright and happy. If you constantly feel negative about yourself, you’ll struggle with being sensitive. ___34___
Another important thing to do is forgive those who have wronged you. Often sensitive people aren’t good at letting things go. ___35___ This is unhealthy as it’ll keep you from enjoying both the present and the future. Take the lesson; leave the pain.
In a word, though being sensitive is certainly a challenge, you can deal with it correctly by taking proper efforts.
A.Why are some people sensitive?
B.Being a bit sensitive isn’t a bad thing.
C.You are sensitive and you can’t change that.
D.If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you are sensitive.
E.As a result, they find it difficult to move on from painful experiences.
F.So when a negative thought comes, correct it with something positive.
G.Sensitive people always put too much pressure on themselves and tend not to take care of themselves properly.
