I still keep a copy of it. The front cover was red with a lovely picture, and it was very modern. Learning English was quite easy for me because the teacher was so good and he helped a lot. Also, I’m quite good at learning languages. It was really enjoyable to have classes. I loved the sound of the words. I felt really proud when my spelling improved day by day and I could read a short story. In middle school, English was still my favorite subject. I even stayed in America for one year as an exchange student. I learned a lot there, not only English but different cultures.

A
Family-friendly Walks
Padley Gorge
Next to Grindleford Station, eight miles north of Bakewell, lies Padley Gorge. Trails are kept as natural as possible—it’s more a case of finding the gaps in the woods than following a path.
Longshaw Estate
The 1.7-mile walking route around this National Trust estate skirts the upper end of Padley Gorge. Children love the stepping stones, though Longshaw is mostly all about the giant fallen trees, left in place for little hands and feet to delightfully climb over.
Higger Tor
A pile of giant rocks dominates Higger Tor. Walk through the nearby fields, then let the kids climb over hundreds of strangely smooth grey stones. The views out over the Hope Valley are great and impressive, and the rock pools in Burbage Brook are perfect for rowing in.
Stanage Edge
Popular with rock climbers, this stone cliff marks the boundary of the mysterious land of the Dark Peak cliff and the grass-covered flat land of White Peak. It’s a six miles circular walk from Hathersage. Alternatively, park at the Hollin Bank Car Park and climb half a mile to the top, out of breath.
Chatsworth House
A three-mile circle from Calton Lees Car Park takes in a ruined factory, the pretty village of Edensor and views of Chatsworth House. Appreciate the stretch along the River Derwent—deer often hang out there.
26. Which walks are most suitable for children?
A. Higger Tor and Stanage Edge. B. Longshaw Estate and Higger Tor.
C. Padley Gorgey and Longshaw Estate. D. Stanage Edge and Chatsworth House.
27. During which walk are you likely to meet with animals?
A. Padley Gorge. B. Stanage Edge.
C. Longshaw Estate. D. Chatsworth House.
28. Whom is the passage intended for?
A. Friends. B. Farmers. C. Families D. Climbers.
B 27. D 28. C

B
Time flies. Youth fades. Treasure each moment of your accompanied by guitar and drums, the Band for One, made up of five people, sang the lyrics soulfully during a performance in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on November 7, 2020.
Behind the band, there was a picture of a young man named Philip Hancock shown on the screen. And he is the reason why they were all there. Hancock was a 27-year-old Australian who taught English in Chongqing. When he died in 2018 due to a disease, his parents followed his wishes and donated his organs.
The five people introduced themselves onstage. They are the ones who received Philip's organs. "Last November, the Red Cross officials told me Philip's parents mentioned during an earlier memorial service that he loved music and dreamed of having his own band one day," said Chen Xianjun, a recipient. Chen was instantly on board to form a band in memory of Philip, and so were the other four recipients.
Since they had no music experience, they had to start from scratch. From learning the guitar, to mastering the maracas and taking on the drums, they took time out of their busy lives to practice over the past year. Peter Hancock, Philip's father, said after watching the band's performance, his biggest wish is for the five to enjoy their lives more.
Organ donation is not only the best way to honor a loved one, but also a remarkable way to save the lives of others. China faces a serious shortage of organs, with about 300,000 people waiting for organ transplant surgeries each year. But the good news is, more and more people have been signing up to be organ donors, showing the spirit of selflessness that Philip and so many others have shown.
29. Why did the five people form the band?
A. To compete in a singing performance. B. To show their respect for Peter Hancock.
C. To raise money for the local Red Cross. D. To express their appreciation to Philip.
30. How long did it take the recipients to prepare for the performance?
A. One year. B. Two years. C. Three years. D. Five years.
31. What do the underlined words “start from scratch” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. lose interest in music. B. practice from the very beginning.
C. take part in training courses. D. turn to some musicians for help.
32. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Citizens are encouraged to donate organs. B. Organ donation is the best way to save lives.
C. The author thinks highly of organ donations. D. Few people are willing to donate their organs.
D 30. A 31. B 32. C
根據(jù)第二段“Behind the band, there was a picture of a young man named Philip Hancock shown on the screen. And he is the reason why they were all there.(在樂隊后面,屏幕上有一張年輕人的照片,他的名字叫Philip Hancock。因為他,他們才能都在那里)”;第三段中“The five people introduced themselves onstage. They are the ones who received Philip's organs.(五個人在臺上做了自我介紹。他們接收了Philip的器官)”以及最后一段中“Organ donation is not only the best way to honor a loved one, but also a remarkable way to save the lives of others.(器官捐贈不僅是紀(jì)念所愛之人的最好方式,也是拯救他人生命的非凡方式)”可知,這五個人組成了這個樂隊,是為了表達他們對菲利普的感激。
根據(jù)第四段中“From learning the guitar, to mastering the maracas and taking on the drums, they took time out of their busy lives to practice over the past year.(從學(xué)習(xí)吉他,到掌握沙球,再到打鼓,他們在過去的一年里從忙碌的生活中抽出時間練習(xí))”可知,器官接受者花了1年來準(zhǔn)備演出。故選A。
根據(jù)畫線詞上文“Since they had no music experience”以及后文“From learning the guitar, to mastering the maracas and taking on the drums, they took time out of their busy lives to practice over the past year.(從學(xué)習(xí)吉他,到掌握沙球,再到打鼓,他們在過去的一年里從忙碌的生活中抽出時間練習(xí))”可知,由于他們沒有音樂經(jīng)驗,所以他們只好從頭開始練習(xí)。
根據(jù)最后一段“Organ donation is not only the best way to honor a loved one, but also a remarkable way to save the lives of others. China faces a serious shortage of organs, with about 300,000 people waiting for organ transplant surgeries each year. But the good news is, more and more people have been signing up to be organ donors, showing the spirit of selflessness that Philip and so many others have shown.(器官捐贈不僅是紀(jì)念所愛之人的最好方式,也是拯救他人生命的非凡方式。中國正面臨器官嚴(yán)重短缺的問題,每年約有30萬人等待器官移植手術(shù)。但好消息是,越來越多的人報名成為器官捐贈者,展現(xiàn)了菲利普和其他許多人所表現(xiàn)出的無私精神)”可知,作者高度評價器官捐贈。故選C。
C
Killer whales(虎鯨), also known as orcas, are known for their severe attacks(攻擊) on sea animals but they have never posed a threat to humans. However, since late July, the normally social animals have been intentionally attacking sailboats off the coasts of Spain and Portugal.
The strange behavior first surfaced on July 29, 2020, when a 46-foot boat was repeatedly attacked for almost an hour by nine orcas, causing the boat to rotate (旋轉(zhuǎn)) 180 degrees and having its engine switched off. Since then, over 30 more similar incidents have been reported. On September 23, 2020, Spain’s government banned boats of less than 50 feet in length from sailing in the 60-mile stretch of the Atlantic coastline between Ferrol and the Estaca de Bares Cape, where the attacks have been occurring.
Researchers across the world are trying to explain the orcas’ behavior. Some believe it could be a result of the overfishing of the bluefin tuna—the orcas’ primary food source—which has left the area’s killer whales starving and unable to feed their babies. “I saw them look at boats carrying fish. I think they know humans are somehow related to food shortages,” says Ken Balcomb, senior scientist at the Center for Whale Research in Washington, USA. The environmentalists believe the sudden increase in boat traffic after months of absence due to restrictions on human activity last spring, could also be contributing to the agitation.
However, Alfredo López, a biology professor in Galicia, Spain, thinks the attacks are defensive measures the orcas took to protect themselves against boat injuries. The researcher came to this conclusion after looking at the videos of a few incidents and noticing that two of the young killer whales involved had serious injuries. Hopefully, the experts will be able to find a way to restore the harmony between the animals and the humans soon.
33. What do we know about orcas in paragraph 1?
A. They are friendly to humans.
B. They have changed their behavior.
C. They are famous for hunting skills.
D. They have met tough living conditions.
34. Who hold(s) the idea that fishing activities caused the incidents?
A. Ken Balcomb. B. The environmentalists.
C. Alfredo López. D. Spain’s government.
35. What do the underlined words “the agitation” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The attacks. B. Food shortages.
C. The overfishing. D. Human activity.
36. What is the main idea of this passage?
A. A disagreement between scientists.
B. Possible reasons why killer whales are attacking boats.
C. The results of the change of the behaviors of killer whales.
D. Spanish government’s effort of protecting the fishing boats.
B 34. A 35. A 36. B
根據(jù)第一段“Killer whales(虎鯨), also known as orcas, are known for their severe attacks(攻擊) on sea animals but they have never posed a threat to humans. However, since late July, the normally social animals have been intentionally attacking sailboats off the coasts of Spain and Portugal.(殺人鯨,又稱虎鯨,以其對海洋動物的猛烈攻擊而聞名,但它們從未對人類構(gòu)成威脅。然而,自7月下旬以來,這些通常群居的動物一直在西班牙和葡萄牙海岸附近故意攻擊帆船)”可知,虎鯨從前從未傷害過人類。但是最近卻開始襲擊西班牙和葡萄牙海岸附近的漁船。由此可推斷,虎鯨的行為有所改變。故選B。
【34題詳解】
細節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第三段第二句話以及Ken Balcomb所說的話“Some believe it could be a result of the overfishing of the bluefin tuna—the orcas’ primary food source—which has left the area’s killer whales starving and unable to feed their babies. “I saw them look at boats carrying fish. I think they know humans are somehow related to food shortages,” says Ken Balcomb, senior scientist at the Center for Whale Research in Washington, USA. 故選A。
根據(jù)劃線單詞所在句子的前半部分“The environmentalists believe the sudden increase in boat traffic after months of absence due to restrictions on human activity last spring(環(huán)保主義者認(rèn)為,由于去年春天人類活動受到限制,船上交通在幾個月后突然增加)”可知,環(huán)保主義者認(rèn)為去年春天人類活動受到限制,船上交通在幾個月后突然增加是導(dǎo)致虎鯨襲擊漁船行為的又一個原因。 故選A。
根據(jù)第一段“However, since late July, the normally social animals have been intentionally attacking sailboats off the coasts of Spain and Portugal.”(然而,自7月下旬以來,這種通常群居的動物在西班牙和葡萄牙海岸故意襲擊帆船。)
D
For most of my life, I didn’t like being seen. I went bright red when it was my turn to speak in a group. I hated the teacher asking me something. I even didn’t like my family all looking at me! I often tried to hide away and avoid being seen by others! So, it’s not strange that I feared speaking in front of others.
Luckily, I’ve learned to overcome my problem. Now I love helping others who have the same problem that I once had but want to speak up because they have valuable things to share. I particularly love helping entrepreneurs (企業(yè)家) to become more confident. When you help a leader, the impact is so much greater.
Over the years I’ve discovered that there are three main problems that people have when it comes to speaking in public. The first is a lack of self-belief. They doubt themselves and question whether what they have to say is valuable. The second is a fear of being seen as arrogant (傲慢的). The third is a fear of rejection or a fear of not being liked.
All of these problems are related to mindset, specifically, a fear-based mindset, which is common. These fears stop people from stepping up as the leader and influencer they were born to be.
If you want to become a more effective influencer, it is so important to work on any fears you have of judgment or rejection. They will be a ball and chain that will hold you back from success. We need to take action despite feeling fear. We can’t wait for the fear to go away as it won’t go away itself. We have to act while we still feel it. And to overcome fears, we should practice. Confidence is attached to progress, and we only progress if we practice. If you don’t feel you’re progressing, you’ll start to lose your confidence and stay stuck in fear.
37. What does the author like doing now?
A. Giving speeches in front of people.
B. Sharing experiences with her followers.

Lacking chances to practise English? Thinking in English can bring you a huge step closer to fluency! It is not very difficult. ____41____ Today, we will share some mental exercises with you.
A good first step is to think in individual words. Look around you. What do you see?
____42____ As you continue with this, it becomes a habit. Things are going to flash into your head—computer, telephone, chair, desk, etc., whatever it is and wherever you are. ____43____ For example, if you couldn’t think of the word “garage”, you can say in your mind, “The place inside which I put my car” or “It’s next to my house. I keep things there”.
The next exercise is thinking in simple sentences. For example, when sitting in a park, you can tell yourself things like, “It’s such a beautiful day” and “People are playing”. ____44____ You can also practise describing your daily activities. As beginning-level learners, you can describe the day using the simple present verb form, like “I put on my shirt” and “He drives the bus”. You can also mentally make plans in the morning or list things you’ve done before going to bed. ____45____ So the skill level is a little higher.
When you are practising it every day, over and over again, little by little, you are thinking in English.
A. But it takes effort and practice.
B. It is extremely easy to understand.
C. This would require other verb tenses.
D. At some points, you will need a dictionary.
E. Try to name each object in your surroundings.
F. Then describe objects you don’t know the words for.
G. Once this becomes easy, you can move on to more difficult sentences.

根據(jù)“Thinking in English can bring you a huge step closer to fluency! It is not very difficult. (用英語思考可以讓你更接近流利!這不是很難)”以及下文“Today, we will share some mental exercises with you.(今天,我們將與大家分享一些心理練習(xí))”可知,英語要熟練是有技巧可用的,所以空白處應(yīng)該是對上文的轉(zhuǎn)折,也就是說流利的英語并不困難,但是也是需要努力和練習(xí)的。A項“但這需要努力和實踐?!狈险Z境,能夠承上啟下。故選A。
根據(jù)上文“A good first step is to think in individual words. Look around you. What do you see?(好的第一步是用單獨的語言思考??纯茨阒車?。你看到了什么?)”以及下文“Things are going to flash into your head—computer, telephone, chair, desk, etc., whatever it is and wherever you are.(無論你身在何處,你的電腦、電話、椅子、辦公桌等都會閃現(xiàn)出各種東西)”可知,本段所給建議就是試著給周圍的每個物體都取名字。 文中的“computer, telephone, chair, desk”是E項中的“each object in your surrounding”的具體例子。故選E。
根據(jù)“For example, if you couldn’t think of the word “garage”, you can say in your mind, “The place inside which I put my car” or “It’s next to my house. I keep things there”(例如,如果你想不出“車庫”這個詞,你可以在腦海中說,“我把車放在里面的地方”或“它就在我的房子旁邊。我把東西放在那里”)”可知,下文舉例表明,我們可以嘗試用其它的方式來描述你很難表達出來的詞。F項“然后描述你不知道單詞?!狈险Z境。故選F。
【44題詳解】
根據(jù)“The next exercise is thinking in simple sentences. (下一個練習(xí)是用簡單的句子思考)”以及下文“ You can also practise describing your daily activities. (你也可以練習(xí)描述你的日常活動)”可知,本段給的建議是我們需要用簡單的句子先開始練習(xí),空處給出這樣做的原因,就是只有從簡單的開始,然后才會慢慢練習(xí)困難的句子。G項“一旦這變得容易,你就可以轉(zhuǎn)到更難的句子?!狈险Z境。G項中的easy和上文的simple 相呼應(yīng)。故選G。
【45題詳解】
根據(jù)“As beginning-level learners, you can describe the day using the simple present verb form, like “I put on my shirt” and “He drives the bus”. You can also mentally make plans in the morning or list things you’ve done before going to bed.(作為初級學(xué)習(xí)者,你可以使用簡單的現(xiàn)在動詞形式來描述一天,比如“我穿上襯衫”和“他開車”。
