I grew up on a farm?—?but it was only 10 acres (英畝), so it was not a large farm. More of a hobby farm! But being in that environment and learning to operate (操作) machines really got me interested in farming. By the age of 16, I had begun my first farming job — using those 10 acres to plant onions. I had a lot of help! We had a family friend who owned a produce company, and he was the one that said, “If you're going to move into farming, we can guide you”. They really helped from start to finish, with everything from seed (種子) depth to when to water the onions. I learned a lot from them. This first taste made me realize that a life on the land was for me.
I love the fact that what I do influences so many families. I also get on with my workers and my customers. I use social media platforms to get in touch with buyers and to make it as clear as possible about how I produce food that ends up in our homes. There are a lot of misunderstandings about farming. So, I try to put out as much helpful media as I can. We work so hard to put food on the table, and we would like people to understand the ins and outs of what we do.
One of the most common misunderstandings about farming is pesticide (殺蟲劑) use. Some people think that if it comes with a warning sign, it's going to kill everybody. In reality, there are important steps that we take to make sure that it's safe. We take the natural method wherever we can, but if we have to use some kind of pesticide, we read and understand the instruction before we use the product. Further down the line, we send some of our plants to the lab. We've never had any bad results.
I'm young, and I'm willing to take chances. I'd like people to say that I was a pioneer in farming.

Hiking (徒步旅行) the Longji Rice Terraces in southern China is something I would advise everyone to do. The area covers over 16,?000 acres, with their creation beginning during the Yuan Dynasty. If you translate it, the name means “Dragon's Backbone” because of the fact that the rice terraces look just like a dragon's scales, while the top of the mountain looks like its backbone.
I began my visit from Ping'an, a small village, as I had stayed at the “Li Qing Guesthouse”. From where the bus drops you off you will pass small shops, and then you will hike up to get to the guesthouse. It's really hard, especially with your bag on, but the view of the hill and rice terraces from your bedroom window is really great. The people are also very helpful and friendly as they helped my group to get a guide for the Longji Rice Terraces hike. The rooms have air conditioning and an in-room bathroom. Moreover, the food is delicious, and you can choose either Western comfort food or local Zhuang food.
From Ping'an I hiked for 5 hours through the Longji Rice Terraces to the?village?of?Dazhai. During the trip not only will you view nature at its most breathtaking, but you'll also get the chance to see colorfully dressed local Zhuang and?Yao?women working in the fields. The terraces are dotted (星羅棋布于) with small homes, and since I was with a local guide I got the chance to stop for lunch in one of them. It was really beyond all expectations that the woman would go out into the fields to “pick our lunch” before preparing a delicious meal of rice, egg, sweet potato leaves, and new potatoes (just like in?America!). Although the break was nice, I honestly couldn't wait to get back to the trip and continue immersing (沉浸) myself in the beauty of the rice terraces. The only real way I can describe it is that you'll feel like you're on another planet the entire time, as scenery (風(fēng)景) that beautiful is just unworldly.
28. What does the first paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The advice the author offers on hiking.
B. The popularity of the Longji Rice Terraces.
C. The background of the Longji Rice Terraces.
D. The reason why the author travels around?China.
29. What did the author think of the place where he lived in Ping'an?
A. He thought it was boring.
B. He thought it was satisfying.
C. He thought it was hard to find.
D. He thought it was cleverly designed.
30. What surprised the author when he was traveling in the?village?of?Dazhai?
A. The woman got the food directly from the field to cook.
B. The woman kept working in the field for a long time.
C. The woman showed the author around the village.
D. The woman prepared Western food.
31. Where does this text probably come from?
A. A history paper. ????????????????????
B. A travel magazine.
C. A geography textbook. ??????????
D. An environment report.

It's become accepted that exposure (?暴露) to blue light — the type produced by electronic device's (?設(shè)備的) screens — is bad for sleep. Researchers have understood that your body is controlled by its circadian rhythms. They are a set of repeated physical, mental, and behavioral changes. The clearest circadian rhythm is the one that makes you tired at night and watchful during the day. This process (?過程) is directed by melatonin, a chemical produced by your body when it's dark outside. Nighttime light exposure can put this process into disorder, stopping melatonin production and keeping you up longer. Many studies have suggested blue light is an especially powerful melatonin suppressant (抑制劑).
That thinking about blue light has led to inventions meant to stop the influence, like “night mode (模式)” settings on your iPads or phones and glasses that say people believe decrease blue light.
But a paper by a group of researchers at the?University?of?Manchester?in the U.?K. printed in?Current Biology?challenges that belief. After exposing mice to lights that were different in color but of the same brightness and watching their following activity, the team said that yellow light actually seems to stop sleeping more than blue. Warm light, they believed, could make the body think it's daytime, while cooler blue light more closely copies evening.
Animal studies should be accepted with a certain degree of care, as they often do not translate directly to human behavior, says Dr. Cathy Goldstein. She is a sleep expert at Michigan Medicine. Though mice are often used in sleep research, Goldstein notes since they are active at night, they may behave differently to light than humans do.
Goldstein agrees research on how light from electronics influences sleep hasn't been conclusive. But she says there's no reason not to use night mode on electronics. Just remember to turn down the brightness, she says.
32. What will happen when there is more melatonin in your body????
A. You'll feel sleepy.? ???????????????
B. You'll feel unhappy.?
C. You'll want to get up.?? ????????
D. You'll want more food.?
33. What did the study printed in?Current Biology?find???
A. Brightness influences sleep more than color.
B. Blue light does very little harm to your health.
C. Your body could be influenced by circadian rhythms.??
D. Yellow light may be worse for sleep than blue light.?
34. What does Goldstein think of the study mentioned in Paragraph 3???
A. Its research method is very creative.??
B. It will have a big influence on electronics.?
C. Its results may only be true to some degree.?
D. It may deepen our thinking about blue light.
35. What is the best title for the text??
A. Is yellow light a melatonin suppressant?
B. Should I use night mode on my phone??
C. Should animals be used in sleep research???
D. Is blue light more useful than yellow light?

“Luke! Amy! We need some apples,” said Grandma.
I looked outside. Darkness was falling in the yard. I didn't want to go up to the orchard (果園). My cousins had told me the orchard was mysterious (神秘的) and strange things were happening up there.
“Afraid to go? You're so timid (?膽小的),” my brother Luke laughed and took hold of two containers. “Let's go.”
I wanted to show my bravery so I followed him. On the way to the orchard, we saw Mr. Smith feeding a carrot to his horse,?Sandy. “How's?Sandy?” I asked Mr. Smith. “He's always running off,” said Mr. Smith. Then I asked him whether he would like to pick apples with us. Mr. Smith shook his head and explained that the hill was too steep for him. I told him that we would pick some for him.
“That would be a treat.” Mr. Smith handed me an empty box.
Luke and I started up the hill. It was silly to be afraid, I told myself. I'd never seen anything mysterious. I'd only heard some stories from my cousins. As soon as we arrived at the orchard, Luke climbed a tree and started picking apples. I stood on the ground to pick from the lower branches of the next tree over. Luke filled Mr. Smith's box halfway with apples, and then started filling his own container. I filled my basket, and then filled Mr. Smith's box to the top. I tried picking up the box. It was too heavy.
Suddenly, I heard a strange sound! What was that? My heart beat fast. “Luke!” I called. “Luke?”
Luke looked over. “What's up?”
I listened, but now the sound was gone. “Never mind. Can you help me carry Mr. Smith's apples?” I said.
Together we carried the box down the hill to Mr. Smith's house and set it in his doorway. Mr. Smith thanked us and gave us each a cookie to eat while we walked.??

第一節(jié)
One possible version:
Dear Simon,
I attended a lecture called “Plants around us” last Friday and I'm writing to share my feelings on it with you.
Held by the student council, the lecture showed us many interesting facts about plants which are often unnoticed in our life. The speech not only broadened my views, but also helped me truly realize the importance of protecting those plants. Some plants showed in the lecture only grow in?China, so I've attached some photos. Hope you will like them.?
Yours,
Li Hua
第二節(jié)
One possible version:
When we arrived back at the orchard, I was surprised to see some of my apples were missing.?Some of Luke's apples were missing, too. He looked worried and said, “Let's pick a few more and go.” Luke climbed up a tree. I quickly picked apples from the lower branches. Then came a strange sound. I looked around and tried to see who was there. Branches reached out like arms. Something brushed against my back. I shouted. “What's the matter?” shouted Luke, going down the tree. The strange sound came again. I turned and relaxed. It was Mr. Smith's horse,?Sandy. He almost frightened me to death.
“Now we know who ate our apples,” said Luke, laughing.?“You found my horse,” Mr. Smith said when he saw Luke and I walking down the hill with?Sandy. I smiled and asked him whether he knew?Sandy?was the mystery of the apple orchard. Mr. Smith shook his head and said that he'd heard strange things were happening up there but he didn't know it was?Sandy. “So it is not surprising that he's always running off,” Mr. Smith added. We all laughed.
