Hotels often undergo makeovers. However, few can compete with the Ice hotel in Jukkasj?rvi, Sweden. Carved entirely from "Snice"—a mix of snow and ice—the hotel is rebuilt annually, with each version more impressive than the previous one. The 32nd Ice hotel was open to guests on April 17, 2022.
The must-visit Swedish tourist destination came about accidentally. In 1989, Ice hotel's founder Yngve Berquist organized an art show to attract tourists to Jukkasj?rvi during the chilly winter months. The exhibition, held inside a 5.5-square-metre igloo(冰屋), was a runaway(迅速的)success. Many visitors decided to spend the night, selling out all of Jukkasj?rvi's warm houses. Hence, when a group approached Berquist about a place to spend the night, he offered them the igloo. "To my surprise, the guests were very impressed by the experience the morning after. Ice hotel was born," Berquist recalls.
The Ice hotel has come a long way since its humble(簡(jiǎn)陋的)start. Constructed from 1, 000 tons of ice, and 30,000 tons of "Snice", it now covers an area of over 5, 500 square metres, Preparations for the annual hotel begin in March with the harvesting of 5,000 tons of ice from the nearby Torne River. The ice is kept in cold storage until November when about100 workers and artists get to work carving out a new structure. Ice hotel is typically open for business by mid-December.
This year's hotel comprises 36 rooms, including 12 crafted art suites(套間). Decorated with massive ice stones and carved water shapes, it aims to provide visitors with a good nature experience. The "Dickensian Street" suite promises to take visitors on a tour of 19th-century England, complete with cobbled(鋪鵝卵石的)streets, shops, and buildings from the era. Guests are advised to stay inside thermal(保暖的)sleeping bags and wear gloves and winter hats all night. Not surprisingly, most move to the conventional, warmer cabins nearby after a single night.

Self-confidence is an important quality to develop in your kid. It is associated with better grades, more satisfying personal relationships, better decision making, and greater self-control. Self-confidence is obtained from skills and competencies, experiences, treatment by others and the nature and frequency(頻率)of successes and failures. But, self-confidence is also affected by something as simple as how your kids carry themselves as they go about their daily lives. If kids behave more self-confidently, they feel more self-confident. Here are some direct instructions parents can give their kids to help them make it.
To start with, have your kids stand tall and straight with their shoulders back. This is particularly important for teenage girls. It is not unusual for girls to draw their shoulders inward as a way of avoiding dealing with the changes of their bodies. They will need help balance being confident in their bodies.
Self-confident people stand and walk with their hands-out and to the side of the body. Some research has provided evidence that placing your hands on your hips(髖部)results ingreater decisiveness in business situations. This is sometimes referred to as the super hero stance. Before your kids are about to engage in an activity where self-confidence is required, have them stand like a super hero with their heads held high, their eyes focused on the horizon and their hands on their hips. It can feel kind of silly but will make a difference in their attitude and behaviour.
Finally, your kids need to be aware of how they actually walk. Self-confident people walk with big steps. They take solid steps with their head up, looking where they are going and making direct eye contact with people they encounter.
With a little time and some direct instruction, you can help your teen appear more self-confident which will actually help them feel more self-confident. You are the perfect personfor them to practise on. One thing though. It is probably better to address this in private.
28. What will kids fail to gain with more self-confidence?
A. Better marks on the exam.
B. Better relationship with others.
C. Greater self-control.
D. The fastest decision making.
29. What does the underlined word "It" in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Standing like a super hero. B. Engaging in an activity.
C. Making eyes focused on a certain thing. D. Holding heads high.
30. What can we know from paragraphs 2—4?
A. Teen girls always stand tall and straight with their shoulders back.
B. Self-confident persons aren't afraid of straight eye contact.
C. It's impolite to put your hands on your hips when you talk with others.
D. You should mind your steps when you walk, being careful and slow.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Self-confidence and Body Language B. Self-confidence and Teen Girls
C. Self-confidence and Different Activities D. Self-confidence and Good Quality

Mickey Mouse welcomed visitors to his new home in China on June 16, 2016 as Disney opened its first theme park in the country.
The park, located in the city of Shanghai, opened with fireworks.
Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, said, "I can promise you that there is still so much left to be revealed, and I cannot wait to share it all with you in the months and years to come."
Tens of thousands streamed into Shanghai Disneyland for its debut(問(wèn)世), an event that was nearly two decades in the making. The $ 5.5 billion resort(度假勝地)covers 963 acres, but Disney has already begun expansion.
Company officials said they tried to reflect Chinese preferences in the new park.
"We didn't build Disneyland in China, we built China's Disneyland," said Bob Iger, Disney's chairman.
There's a traditional Chinese tea house featuring local food. The Lion King performed in Mandarin for the first time, features the Monkey King and characters dressed in Chinese opera garb(服裝)to appeal to an Asian audience.
In the castle, guests not only walk through, as they do in other Disney parks, they can also eat and shop. When it was discovered that Chinese people didn't have a favourite Disney princess, the company decided that the castle would feature all the princesses. Parks in California and France are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.
"The visitors can learn the princesses over time, and this gives them an opportunity to have an introduction to all of the princess stories," said executive producer Ali Rubinstein.
However, China's Disneyland sometimes are not closely related to China. Disney's only animated film based on a Chinese story, Mulan, which tells the tale of a Chinese warrior woman, got neither its own ride nor stage show. The character appears only as a statue and afloat in the parade.
32. What's Joe Schott's attitude to Shanghai Disney Resort?
A. Disappointed. B. Concerned. C. Doubtful. D. Confident.
33. What can be learned from what Bob said in paragraph 6?
A. They build the theme park in China.
B. The theme park belongs to China.
C. The theme park has Chinese elements.
D. The theme park has a long Chinese history.
34. Why does China's Disneyland have all kinds of princesses?
A. Chinese people have no certain favourite Disney princess.
B. Chinese people don't know any princess characters in Disney movies.
C. Chinese people believe "the more, the better".
D. Parks in other countries are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.
35. What is the purpose of giving the Mulan example?
A. To show the Chinese character of Disneyland.
B. To show Mulan is an important part of Chinese culture.
C. To show China's Disneyland has not reflected enough Chinese culture.
D. To show Disneyland has too few Chinese character films.

Hence, when a group approached Berquist about a place to spend the night, he offered them the igloo.(在一個(gè)5. 5平方米的冰屋內(nèi)舉行的展覽是一個(gè)成功,許多游客決定在那里過(guò)夜,Jukkasjarvi所有溫暖的小屋都賣(mài)光了。
根據(jù)最后一段中的“The 'Dickensian Street' suite promises to take visitors ona tour of19th-century England, complete with cobbled streets, shops, and buildings from the era.(‘狄更斯街’套房承諾將帶游客游覽19世紀(jì)的英格蘭,有鵝卵石鋪就的街道、商店和時(shí)代建筑。)”
根據(jù)第一段中“Self-confidence is an important quality to develop in your kid. It isassociated with better grades, more satisfying personal relationships, better decision making, and greaterself-control.”
29. 【答案】A
根據(jù)第三段,當(dāng)孩子們參加活動(dòng)需要自信的時(shí)候,我們需要讓他們“have them standlike a super hero with their heads held high, their eyes focused on the horizon and their hands on their hips(像超人一樣站著,仰起頭,平視前方,雙手又腰)”。
根據(jù)第四段"Self-confident peoplewalk with big steps."
31.【答案】A

34.【答案】A
When it was discovered that Chinese people didn't have a favourite Disneyprincess, the company decided that the castle would feature all the princesses."

(Text 1)
M: Why not go to the cinema with me on Saturday? I've got tickets.
W: I'd like to, but Jane is sick in hospital these days and I have promised her to help her clean up her room.
(Text 2)
M: There's a party at Chris's house tonight. Shall we take a taxi there?
W: We can walk there. Chris's house isn't too far.
M: ОK. And then later we can take a bus back home if we are too tired after the party.
(Text 3)
W: What time are you going to the school sports day tomorrow, Jim?
M: Oh, it opens at 11, but I want to help to get everything ready, so I'll be at the school before 10 o'clock in the morning.
W: My shooting competition is at 11:30, so I will go early with you to help you before it opens.
(Text 4)
W: Eric invited me to go hiking tomorrow! But I just want to relax for one day. I've been taking so many classes this week.
M: Why not simply tell him that you'd like to stay at home? He'll understand.
(Text 5)
W: You were late for school again this morning? Didn't your dad drive you to school? We had finished an exercise before you arrived.
M: Sorry. I told him I would ride my bicycle. But it was snowing heavily, so I decided to walk.
M: Then you will have another exercise in my office after school.
(Text 6)
M: Excuse me, are you Lisa Evans? Mr Smith said I should come to your office to speak with you before I carry out an experiment.
W: Yes. First time in the lab?
M: Yeah, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do.
W: First of all, you can't joke around, nor will you run or play games with your lab partner. And you need to wear proper clothes in the lab. You must also wear safety glasses. Now let me go over other safety rules in the lab so that you will act properly while you're there.
(Text 7)
M: I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I felt instantly at home because of the warm lighting and the friendly staff.
W: It's been considered as the best restaurant for atmosphere. The thing that impressed me most was the price. You get what you pay for.
M: I wasn't sure about the dishes, though. The roasted chicken wasn't something I fancied. So I ordered the fried beef. But it was too hard and dry to cut with my fork.
W: It's incredible. But my baked fish was delicious.
M: Then I will try to order baked fish to see its taste next time.
(Text 8)
W: Adam, our school requires us to do some volunteer work every year. Do you know of any good volunteer programmes?
M: Yes. There are lots of programmes, such as visiting the elderly and cleaning up the beaches. Or do you like cats?
W: Of course.
M: Then you can try the Love Kuching Project. It is devoted to the rescue and adoption of cats. You can volunteer to play with the cats and clean their cages.
W: That's fine with me. I love volunteering with a small group of friends. Do you know their phone numbers or addresses?
M: No. But if you are interested, you can contact them on the Internet. I'll send their e-mail address to you.
(Text 9)
M: Louise, you're studying medicine at university. Was it hard getting into your courses?
W: Medicine's a competitive area, so yes, it was hard. It's more or less certain that everyone applying had good grades in science and did voluntary work in a hospital or clinic. My courses include training at hospitals abroad. So what made my application stand out was the fact that I'd also studied languages.
M: Now you've finished your first year. How did that go?
W: Most things turned out as I expected. Our teachers gave us long lists of published materials on each topic. There have been a few surprises too. I didn't expect the doctors to be so busy. They often didn't have time to help students.
M: So, any special plans for your summer break?
W: Well, I'd like to go on holiday, but I decided to look for summer work. Next term, I'm training at a hospital in Paris, so I'll need to pay for travelling and accommodation.
(Text 10)
Mountain Kilimanjaro, one of the nature wonders of the world, is located in Tanzania and is Africa's highest mountain. It is the largest free-standing mountain in the world, meaning it is not part of a mountain range. The grand snow-capped peaks of Kilimanjaro have long captured the world's imagination. Thousands have travelled to Tanzania to climb the mountain, or to view its famous glacier-covered peaks. In 1889, German geographer Hans Meyer and Austrian reached the summit. Since then, the mountain has become a popularhiking spot for locals and tourists. In 1973, the mountain and its six surrounding forest roads were named national park in order to protect the mountain's unique and wonderful environment. The park was declared a World Heritage Site by the United National Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 1987. But in the last century the snow on the mountain has been disappearing. The loss of Kilimanjaro's glaciers is removing a source of water from the mountain's surrounding area. In addition, it would probably decrease the amount of tourism.
