The Mauritius Dd (Raphus cucullatus, called Didus ineptus by Linnaeus), mre cmmnly just Dd, was a metre-high flightless bird f the island f Mauritius. The Dd, which is nw extinct, lived n fruit and nested n the grund.

Zha Yannan: The Dd was driven t extinctin by sailrs when they discvered the island f Maritius in the 17th century. It is ne f the first dcumented human induced extinctins.
Zha Yanfei: What a pity that we can nt find any dd nw. Imagine we are with the dd, Yannan, what culd we d t help it?
Zha Yannan: Then I wuld intend t hide it in a cave, s that sailrs culd nt find it.
Zha Yanfei: If I were there, I wuld try t trap them as they were catching and killing the dd. Putting man wh is harmful t the dd in a cage and attacking him is the best way t prtect and save the dd.
Zha Yannan: I’d like t and I’m ready t, teach man hw t be friends with animals, including the dd. The man and the dd can be living side by side n the earth. They can be happy tgether.
ZhaYanfei: I wuld rather nt tell yu what I think f man. He is selfish and cruel. He cares nly fr himself and that is why s many animals have disappeared frm this earth. Putting the bad men in a cage is the nly way ut, I am sure.
By 1681, the last dd died, and the species became extinct. After hundreds f years, n ne recalled what a dd bird was, and it was regarded as a myth invented by imaginative sailrs. It wasn't until the 1900’s when the bnes were fund that the dd was believed t be real.
Tday, the dd bird is a symbl f the harm humans can bring t ther living things if we are irrespnsible.
