    Students will be able t
    1. read and talk abut active learning
    2. read fr general understanding
    3. identify the main theme f each paragraph and label them with subheadings
    4. present a suggestin abut active learning
    5. practise verb+verb-ing/infinitive structures
    6. cmplete a summary f the text
    【教學(xué)重難點(diǎn)】
    Identifying main themes and summarising the text
    【教學(xué)過程】
    1. What d active learners d?
    1) Discuss the title f the lessn and gather ideas n its pssible meanings, i.e., a methd f learning that is nt nly abut listening t lectures and trying t remember what the teacher has said. Pint ut that the ppsite methd is “passive learning” and invite learners t think f cntrasting details abut each methd.
    2) Read the list f active learning methds alud and invite students t raise their hand fr the nes they practise by themselves.
    3) Students wrk in small grups and discuss which students they think best represent the principle f active learning.
    4) Ask students t think abut which areas they culd imprve n and whether they think that is smething they can achieve r nt.
    2. Read the first paragraph and answer questins.
    1) Read the three questins ut lud and invite students t give their pinin.
    a. What d mst peple believe abut the human brain? Is it true?
    b. What is active learning?
    c. What is Kevin Daum ging t talk abut in the article?
    2) In small grups, students read the questins and then the first paragraph f the text.
    3) Students discuss their answers.
    4) Each grup presents their answers t the class.
    3. Read and write subheadings.
    1) Ask learners t silently read thrugh the subheadings n page 52 and pint ut that subheadings in lnger texts are very helpful with cherence and the flw f the infrmatin.
    2) Independently, students write the subheadings befre the crrespnding paragraphs. Students d nt need t read fr any specific details. They shuld fcus n the gist f each paragraph.
    3) Students check their answers in pairs and then review as a class.
    4) Ask students t identify the part in each paragraph that helped them t find the crrect subheading.
    4. Identify learning actins, reasns and learning effects.
    1) Explain t students that each paragraph f the text fcuses n ne active learning suggestin.
    2) Students read abut the first active learning suggestin in the secnd paragraph and cmplete the diagram n page 54.
    3) Cpy the diagram n the bard and invite students t vlunteer the answers.
    4) In pairs, students d the same fr the ther active learning suggestins.
    5) Cmplete the diagram n the bard fr the ther suggestins by asking students t vlunteer the answers.
    5. Grup Wrk: Intrduce suggestins.
    1) In small grups f five, students each pick ne f the suggestins s that each student has a different suggestin.
    2) Independently, students write a shrt paragraph n their suggestin using the infrmatin in the diagram. Help lw level students by prviding sentence frames.
    3) Encurage students t think f additinal infrmatin that wuld make their presentatin mre interesting and persnalised.
    4) Each grup presents the active learning suggestins t the class.
    6. Write T (true) r F (false) fr ways f learning.
    1) Explain t students that fr this activity they will need t fcus n detail and read fr specific infrmatin.
    2) Read the statements as a class and explain any unknwn wrds.
    3) Independently, students identify whether the ways f learning are crrect r nt and nte dwn reasns t supprt their answers. Students can extract infrmatin frm the text.
    4) Make sure students suggest an alternative way f learning fr the statements that are incrrect.
    5) Review answers as a class.
    7. Talk abut the suggestins.
    1) Students read the text again and decide n which suggestin wuld be mst useful fr their wn learning.
    2) Draw their attentin t the example answer and demnstrate t prvide ne, ideally ne that fcuses n a different suggestin.
    3) In small grups, students discuss their pinins and prvide reasns fr their answers.
    4) Vlunteers can share their answers with the class. Find ut which suggestin is the mst ppular in the class.
    8. Read the summary and paraphrase.
    1) Revise synnyms with students. Explain that students will use the synnyms t replace the underlined parts.
    2) Encurage students t wrk independently.
    3) Review the answers as a class.
    9. Cmplete the table n page 55.
    1) Draw students’ attentin t the clured verbs in the reading text n pages 52 and 53. Explain that they are either fllwed by a verb-ing frm r an infinitive. Revise these cncepts by reading the Grammar Summary n pages 96 and 97.
    2) Students independently cmplete the task.
    3) Review the answers as a class.
    10. Cmplete the text n page 55.
    1) Ask students t fcus n the verb preceding each space and t chse either the crrect -ing r infinitive frm.
    2) Read alud the text and pause befre each space fr students t call ut the answer in chrus.
    11. Express yurself.
    1) Questins fr discussin:
    a. What ther ways f active learning d yu knw?
    b. Hw will yu learn actively in the future?
    2) In grups, students discuss ways they can becme mre active learners.
    3) If pssible, students can research active learning nline.
    4) Write interesting ideas n the bard and encurage students t apply these ideas in their schl life.
