Before Avatar was reissued in China in March, Cameron was interviewed by China Daily. Cameron says that he has felt “truly incredible about what has happened in China”. He adds he feels impressive about Chinese film authorities' effort to promote local cinemas and bring people back to theaters.
“You guys (Chinese people) are leading the charge. That's fantastic. I love it that you've got the virus under control enough and you've got the economy recovering as well as cinema recovering.”
China took decisive action shortly after the COVID-19 outbreak earlier last year, enforcing a six-month-long closure of more than 75,000 screens in around 12,000 cinemas until it became safe again for moviegoers to return.
Driven by a bunch of Chinese films ranging from the patriotic anthology My People, My Homeland to the recent Spring Festival hit Hi, Mom, the country has seen an inspiring revival from the impact of the pandemic, becoming the world's largest movie market in terms of yearly box office gross since October last year.
“The Chinese film industry is growing in strength and ability to tell these Chinese stories at a world-class level,” says Cameron.
“I'm honored that they (referring to the China Film Administration and Chinese distributors) chose Avatar to be one of the films to sort of remind people what the cinematic experience is,” he adds.
He says the actual production of the four Avatar sequels started around three years ago — with a year and a half for performance capture, followed by the live action filming of the human characters. “But there's no cameras involved in the performance capture process. We're capturing data of the performances. That's how we bring those beautiful, big, blue Na'vi people to life,” says Cameron.
But he reveals that he has also seen the project delayed for four months due to the pandemic, and the good news is that the first Avatar sequel will be released in December 2022.
    4. Which of the following is NOT the reason of the recovering of Chinese film industry?
    A. Chinese film authorities spare no effort to promote it.
    B. Chinese people are fond of watching films.
    C. Chinese people have controlled the virus well enough.
    D. China took instant action to prevent the virus.
    5. What can we learn about Avatar?
    A. The Avatar sequels started 4.5 years ago.
    B. The live action filming is shot before performance capture.
    C. The performance capture is finished vividly.
    D. The project Avatar was never stopped even during the pandemic.
    6. The attitude of Cameron towards the film industry of China is ________.
    A. humorous B. indifferent C. positive D. neutral
    7. The passage is mainly about ________.
    A. the reasons for Avatar being released smoothly in China
    B. the view of Cameron on Chinese film industry
    C. the present situation of Chinese film industry
    D. the introduction to the release of Avatar

“The comic waist challenge”, in which netizens try to imitate a comic character's pose with their legs on a chair and the upper body dropping to the ground, almost bending the waist in half, has become the latest craze to hit China's social media.

The topic has obtained hundreds of millions views on Weibo with many net users posting photos of the challenging pose to show how sexy and flexible they are.
Meanwhile some netizens argue that it is just an expansive gesture of yoga pose. So some people consult the doctors if the gesture is very dangerous. Medical experts have warned net users of the seemingly harmless yoga pose, as it may lead to damage to one's vertebrae by causing muscle strain and increasing the risk of lumbar degenerative disease.
The new challenge follows a series of similar controversial Chinese body image trends including the A4 waist challenge (measuring women's waists against a piece of A4 paper which is 21 centimeters wide), the belly button challenge (reaching one's belly button from behind), and the coin collarbone (balancing coins on people's collarbones for as long as they can) which faced heavy criticism worldwide on social media.
Women in China have long associated being beautiful with being skinny, but a desire to be thin is often taken to the extreme, with harmful effects on health and self-esteem - a situation not unique to China.
Although the opinions of the issue vary, maybe the change of the attitudes towards it is just over the horizon. Rejecting body anxiety is more than just a slogan. Many workout-obsessed women are increasingly realizing that no matter how hard they try, they won't be supermodels, and acknowledging that figures can vary due to a number of factors. This is an important step on their path to self-acceptance. Being healthy and maintaining the spiritual well-being have become the new pursuits for many.
    8. According to paragraphs 1 and 2, what do you know about the comic waist challenge?
    A. It leads a trend among netizens. B. It's an easy comic character's pose.
    C. It's a harmless yoga pose. D. It's a symbol of the beauty of body image.
    9. Which of the following is NOT the Chinese body image trends according to the passage?
    A. The A4 waist challenge. B. The belly button challenge.
    C. The coin collarbone. D. The finely chiseled nose.
    10. It can be inferred from the passage that ________.
    A. women in China prefer following trends
    B. all women in China are desperate to be thin
    C. the pursuit of beauty has nothing to do with our health
    D. many women in China care more about their health than beauty now
    11. What can be a suitable title for the text?
    A. The body image trends — a pursuit of Chinese women
    B. The comic waist challenge — a slap in the face
    C. The attitudes of Chinese towards beauty
    D. The body anxiety nowadays
A 9. D 10. D 11. B

Between a quarter and one third of all marine species rely on coral reefs (珊瑚礁)at some point in their life cycle. The Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef, covers nearly 133,000 square miles and is home to more than 1,500 species of fish, 411 species of hard coral and dozens of other species.
Australian's Great Barrier Reef has lost 50% of its coral populations in the last three decades, with climate change a key driver of reef disturbance, a new study has found.
Researchers from the Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, in Queensland, northeastern Australia, studied coral communities and their colony size along the length of the Great Barrier Reef between 1995 and 2017, finding reduction of virtually all coral populations.
“We found the number of small, medium and large coral on the Great Barrier Reef has dropped by more than 50% since the 1990s," reported co-author Terry Hughes, a professor at the centre, in a statement.
Reefs are basic to the health of marine ecosystems — without them, ecosystems collapse, and marine life dies. Coral population sizes are also considered important when it comes to the coral's ability to reproduce." A coral population has millions of small, baby corals, as well as many large ones,“ said Andy Dietzel, a doctoral student in a statement. "Our results show the ability of the Great Barrier Reef to recover becomes weak compared to the past," he added.
Population falls occurred in both shallow and deep water coral species, experts found, but branching coral and table-shaped coral — which provide habitats for fish — were worst affected by mass bleaching (白化)events in 2016 and 2017, caused by record-breaking temperatures.
Warm ocean temperatures are the main driver of coral bleaching, when coral turns white as a stress response to water that is too warm. Bleaching doesn't kill coral immediately, but if temperatures remain high, eventually the coral will die, destroying a natural habitat for many species of marine life.
The new study found the serious worsening of coral colonies in the Northern and Central Great Barrier Reef following the mass bleaching events in the past five years, and experts said the southern part of the reef also suffered record-breaking temperatures in early 2020.
“We used to think the Great Barrier Reef is protected by its huge size — but our results show that even the world's largest and relatively well-protected reef system is increasingly dropping, Hughes said. He warned that climate change is driving an increase in the frequency of the reef disturbance like marine heat waves. "There is no time to lose — we must sharply reduce greenhouse gases as soon as possible," he said.
    12. What can we know about coral reefs?
    A. They are not able to recover by themselves.
    B. They make up the largest ecosystem in the sea.
    C. They can easily be disturbed by other marine species.
    D. They can influence the existence of other marine species.
    13. What does the underlined word “collapse" in Paragraph 5 mean?
    A. Change. B. Disappear.
    C. Crash. D. Progress.
    14. How does coral respond to high temperatures?
    A. It will die very soon. B. It will change its color.
    C. It will fail to reproduce. D. It will kill other species.
    15. What does Terry Hughes want to say in the last paragraph?
    A. The Great Barrier Reef doesn't have a self-protecting mechanism.
    B. The Great Barrier Reef is no longer the world's largest coral reef.
    C. Measures must be taken to protect coral reefs without delay.
    D. Climate change can increase the frequency of heat waves.

根據(jù)第一段第一句“Between a quarter and one third of all marine species rely on coral reefs (珊瑚礁)at some point in their life cycle.”(四分之一到三分之一的海洋物種在它們生命周期的某個時刻依賴于珊瑚礁。)和第二句“The Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef, covers nearly 133,000 square miles and is home to more than 1,500 species of fish, 411 species of hard coral and dozens of other species.”(大堡礁是世界上最大的珊瑚礁,占地近13.3萬平方英里,是1500多種魚類、411種硬珊瑚和數(shù)十種其他物種的家園。)
根據(jù)第五段第一句中的“Reefs are basic to the health of marine ecosystems”(珊瑚礁是海洋生態(tài)系統(tǒng)健康的基礎(chǔ))和“marine life dies”(海洋生物死亡)可知,此處是指沒有珊瑚礁,生態(tài)系統(tǒng)坍塌,海洋生物死亡。
根據(jù)第七段第一句“Warm ocean temperatures are the main driver of coral bleaching, when coral turns white as a stress response to water that is too warm.”(溫暖的海洋溫度是珊瑚白化的主要原因,當(dāng)海水太熱時,珊瑚會變成白色。)

Many students have difficulty keeping their things organized. What can we do to assist them? Learning Management System (LMS) is an app teachers can use to upload and present all the information students need: documents grades, the assignment calendar, etc. ____16____
Track assignments and calendars. Teachers can create calendars or charts in their LMS showing the upcoming schedule for projects and readings, which allows students to see clearly what assignments are left to complete and when they're due. ____17____Instead of digging through their backpacks for homework, now, students can quickly tell the teacher exactly what they have done.
Follow teachers' feedback. With an LMS, students can submit a typed document and receive direct feedback from their teachers in comments typed on the side of the doc. The comments are tied to specific phrases in the students' text. Students can easily access them, and better yet, they can then respond to the teacher's comment, creating a dialogue or conversation that the student can refer back to later. ____18____
____19____In the past, after receiving the dreaded red-pen comments on their essays, students would have to scrawl out corrections on the messy draft and then write a whole new draft on a separate piece of paper. ____20____ Students struggling with writing production, expressive language, and attention issues should have an easier time with this kind of work using formats like Word, Google Docs, and PowerPoint.
We now live in a digital world. Thankfully for our students, especially those with learning challenges, LMS helps them become more independent and confident in their studies.

    F. Below are some uses of this system for students struggling with classroom organization.
    G. This is a simple but effective way for the student and teacher to engage with each other.
F 17. D 18. E 19. A 20. C
根據(jù)上文“Learning Management System (LMS) is an app teachers can use to upload and present all the information students need: documents, grades, the assignment calendar, etc.
根據(jù)上文“Teachers can create calendars or charts in their LMS showing the upcoming schedule for projects and readings, which allows students to see clearly what assignments are left to complete and when they're due.
根據(jù)上文“Students can easily access them, and better yet, they can then respond to the teacher's comment, creating a dialogue or conversation that the student can refer back to later.
根據(jù)下文“In the past, after receiving the dreaded red-pen comments on their essays, students would have to scrawl out corrections on the messy draft and then write a whole new draft on a separate piece of paper.(在過去,學(xué)生們在收到可怕的紅筆評論后,必須在亂七八糟的草稿上涂改,然后在另一張紙上寫一個全新的草稿) ”以及“Students struggling with writing production, expressive language, and attention issues should have an easier time with this kind of work using formats like Word, Google Docs, and PowerPoint.(在寫作、表達(dá)性語言和注意力問題上苦苦掙扎的學(xué)生應(yīng)該更容易使用Word、Google Docs和PowerPoint等格式)”可推知,該系統(tǒng)還有可以直接在上面進行編輯和重寫的功能,這樣學(xué)生就不用在亂七八糟的草稿上涂改,然后用另一張紙重寫。 故選A。
根據(jù)上文“In the past, after receiving the dreaded red-pen comments on their essays, students would have to scrawl out corrections on the messy draft and then write a whole new draft on a separate piece of paper.(在過去,學(xué)生們在收到可怕的紅筆評論后,必須在亂七八糟的草稿上涂改,然后在另一張紙上寫一個全新的草稿) ”和下文“Students struggling with writing production, expressive language, and attention issues should have an easier time with this kind of work using formats like Word, Google Docs, and PowerPoint.(在寫作、表達(dá)性語言和注意力問題上苦苦掙扎的學(xué)生應(yīng)該更容易使用Word、googledocs和PowerPoint等格式) ”可知,上下文陳述了兩種不同的情況,由此推知設(shè)空處應(yīng)是一個過渡句。
