一、結果狀語從句 表示主句的動作所引起的結果,可以用 s... that…, such... that... 等引導。但是 和 such… that... 引導結果狀語從句時,在結構上有區(qū)別:
1.在 s... that… 結構中,s 是副詞,與形容詞或副詞連用,其結構是 s+adj.(adv.)+ that十從句。他跑得那么快,我趕不上他。 He ran s fast that I culdn’t catch up with him. (fast adv.)
我太困了,眼睛幾乎睜不開了。 I am s sleepy that I can hardly keep my eyes pen. (sleepy adj.)
2. 在 such... that... 結構中,such 是形容詞,后跟可數(shù)名詞或不可數(shù)名詞;名詞前可以帶形容詞,也可以不帶。如果其后是單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞,前面需加不定冠詞 a 或 an。
他是一個誠實的孩子,大家都很喜歡他。 He is such an hnest by that everybdy likes him.他的胳膊很長,以至于他幾乎能碰到天花板了。 He had such lng arms that he culd almst tuch the ceiling.
3.當單數(shù)名詞前有形容詞時,既可以用 s,也可以用 such,但不定冠詞的位置卻有所不同。這是一次很重要的會議,你一定要參加。 This is such an imprtant meeting that yu shuld attend. = This is s imprtant a meeting that yu shuld attend.
二、讓步狀語從句1. althugh 常用于句首,較正式。它引導的讓步狀語從句用正常語序,不可倒裝。2. thugh 位置靈活,可放在句首、句中或句末,較口語化。它引導的讓步狀語從句可用部分倒裝。
雖然下著雨,但我們還是去了那兒。 Thugh/Althugh it was raining, we went there. 這份工作很辛苦,但是我喜歡。 It’s hard wrk. I enjy it, thugh.雖然他們打得很勇敢,但還是沒有機會獲勝。 Bravely thugh they fught, they had n chance f winning.
[注意] althugh/thugh 不能與 but 同時出現(xiàn)在一個句子中,但可與 yet/still 搭配使用。雖然他有很多錢,但并不幸福。 Althugh/Thugh he has a lt f mney, yet/still he is unhappy.
