The lng, white rbt weighs mre than 450 kilgrams. Like ther rbts, it is equipped with cameras and mechanical arms t autmatically perfrm many different jbs.


Angus is a majr part f peratins at Alexander’s indr rbt farm, abut 40 kilmeters suth f San Francisc. The 743-square meter farm uses a hydrpnic system that grws plants withut sil. The plants grw inside equipment that prvides a cntinuus flw f water. The indr farm uses electrical light instead f sunlight.


This kind f farm uses much less water and des nt require human labr t run. The main jb fr Angus is t mve thusands f plants arund the farm, frm small cntainers t larger nes as they grw. Angus als carries plants t anther rbt that des nt have a name yet. Angus mves slwly t cmplete its wrk. But the rbt is very strng and can lift abut 300 kilgrams.


Fr nw, the farm uses humans t cllect vegetables and ther crps when they are ready. But Alexander says he is wrking n a rbt that will eventually take ver that jb t.


Alexander helped start the cmpany Irn Ox after leaving Ggle, where he wrked n rbtics at the cmpany’s Ggle x prject. He teamed up with anther frmer Ggle emplyee, Jn Binney. Tgether they funded Irn Ox.


Irn Ox’s website says the hydrpnic grwing system uses 90 percent less water. It als said the grwing methd is up t 30 times mre prductive than grwing crps n land.


Alexander said grwing fd rbtically thrughut the year in majr cities will prvide a mre cnsistent and fresh prduct. Mst f the vegetables sld in the U.S. are grwn in Califrnia, Arizna, Mexic and ther natins. That means that many peple in U.S. cities are eating vegetables that are nearly a week ld by the time they arrive in stres.
