Many peple assume tday’s easy lng-distance cllabratin (合作) shuld release a fld f creative scientific research—but, strangely, a new study suggests the ppsite may be true.
Several reasns have been suggested fr an apparent slwdwn in new research ideas, but it seems remte cllabratin itself may be a limiting factr. Fr a recent study in Nature, University f Pittsburgh scial scientist Lingfei Wu and his clleagues fund that teams cllabrating remtely prduce fewer breakthrughs.
The researchers analyzed 20 millin research papers published between 1960 and 2020 and fur millin patents filed between 1976 and 2020 t assess hw “disruptive” they were by analyzing qutatins. Highly disruptive studies were thse that put earlier wrk t shame and pen new avenues f research; articles that qute them usually dn’t als qute earlier studies they build n. Less disruptive studies build n previus wrk, and articles quting them typically als qute prir studies.
The researchers fund that as the distance between authrs’ wrkplaces increases frm zer t at least 600 kilmeters, their papers’ being disruptive falls by rughly a quarter. T investigate why, Wu and his team analyzed researchers’ self-reprted rles. They fund that thse wrking tgether in persn were mre likely t fcus n cnceptual tasks—the kind f wrk likely t prduce new ideas. Researchers cllabrating remtely were mre likely t d technical wrk such as data analysis.
The team als fund that when researchers were gathering in persn, even big differences between individuals’ qutatin numbers had little effect n the likelihd f their cllabrating n cnceptual wrk. But in remte teams, the chances f researchers jintly prducing ideas declined when ne had significantly mre qutatins than the ther.
The findings challenge the assumptin that merely cnnecting peple nline leads t the grwth f new ideas. In thery, remte cllabratin enables mre new cmbinatins f knwledge. Hwever, if new innvatin is encuraged, peple shuld be brught tgether instead f relying n digital infrastructure (基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施). ”
8. What des the underlined “disruptive” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Creative.B. Destructive.C. Unique.D. Representative.
9. What des paragraph 4 mainly prve?
A. In-persn cllabratin brings abut technical wrk.
B. Lng-distance cllabratin desn’t benefit new ideas.
C. Lng-distance cllabratin is f great imprtance.
D. In-persn cllabratin is better than lng-distance ne.
10. In remte teams, new ideas may ccur at least when ______.
A. nline individuals cntribute t the discussin
B. equipment fr remte cllabratin is available
C. individuals’ qutatins in bth sides are equal
D. researchers’ qutatins differ greatly in number
11. What can be a suitable title fr the passage?
A. Researchers cllabrate remtely t be mre creative.
B. Scientists cllabrate better when they are farther apart.
C. Scientists innvate mre while wrking tgether in persn.

根據(jù)下文“that put earlier wrk t shame and pen new avenues f research(讓早期的工作黯然失色,并開辟了新的研究途徑的研究)”可知,highly disruptive的研究是那些使早期工作黯然失色并開辟新的研究途徑的研究,因此disruptive的意思是“創(chuàng)新性的,顛覆性的”。故選A。
根據(jù)文章第四段“The researchers fund that as the distance between authrs’ wrkplaces increases frm zer t at least 600 kilmeters, their papers’ being disruptive falls by rughly a quarter.(研究人員發(fā)現(xiàn),隨著作者工作地點(diǎn)之間的距離從0增加到至少600公里,他們論文的創(chuàng)造性降低了大約四分之一。)”
根據(jù)文章第五段“But in remte teams, the chances f researchers jintly prducing ideas declined when ne had significantly mre qutatins than the ther.(但在遠(yuǎn)程團(tuán)隊(duì)中,當(dāng)一個(gè)人的引用次數(shù)明顯多于另一個(gè)人時(shí),研究人員共同提出想法的機(jī)會(huì)就會(huì)下降。)”
D
Willful ignrance exists in large amunt in daily life. Peple regularly lk the ther way rather than examining the cnsequences f their actins. Despite plenty f scientific evidence fr climate change, fr instance, many peple still avid engaging with facts abut glbal warming.
We wanted t understand hw cmmn willful ignrance is and why peple engage in it. After cllecting data frm multiple research prjects that invlved mre than 6,000 individuals, we discvered that willful ignrance is cmmn and harmful, with 40 percent f peple chsing “nt t knw” the cnsequences f their actins t free themselves f guilt while maximizing their wn gains. But we als fund that abut 40 percent f peple are unselfish: rather than aviding infrmatin abut the cnsequences f their actins, they seek it ut t increase the benefits t thers.
In the experiments, the decisins were made in ne f tw settings. In the transparent (透明的) setting, decisin-makers had infrmatin abut hw their chice wuld affect themselves and their partner. In an ambiguus (模糊的) setting, decisin-makers knew hw their chice wuld matter fr themselves but nt fr their teammate — althugh they culd request that insight.
The verall balance tipped tward selfishness when participants had the ptin t avid infrmatin. Only 39 percent f peple in the ambiguus setting made the chice that ultimately benefited their partner — a significant drp frm 55 percent in the transparent cnditin.
If we can avid putting a strng mral emphasis n decisins, it may make peple feel less threatened and, as a result, be less willfully ignrant. Other research grups have fund prmising ways t d this. Fr instance, we culd encurage peple t think mre psitively abut gd deeds rather than guilt-trip them fr what they have failed t d. Highlighting recent glbal achievements, such as healing the zne (臭氧) layer, can inspire peple t keep up the gd wrk rather than feeling like the battle is lst and that the situatin is hpeless.
In shrt, we can encurage ne anther and urselves tward mre selfless and generus actins.
12. Why d sme peple chse nt t knw the cnsequences f their actins?
A. T make easier chices t be a gd persn.
B. T increase their wn benefits mre than thers’.
C. T avid the influence f cnsequences n actins.
D. T get the mst benefits withut a sense f shame.
13. Hw can willful ignrance be prevented?
A. By fcusing less n its mrality.B. By stressing its ptential threat.
C. By being mre psitive abut neself.D. By getting peple aware f their actins.
14. Which part f the magazine is the passage taken frm?
A. Culture.B. Envirnment.C. Psychlgy.D. Bilgy.
15. What is the passage mainly abut?
A. The reasn fr willful ignrance.

根據(jù)第五段中“If we can avid putting a strng mral emphasis n decisins, it may make peple feel less threatened and, as a result, be less willfully ignrant. 故選A。
根據(jù)第一段中“Willful ignrance exists in large amunt in daily life. Peple regularly lk the ther way rather than examining the cnsequences f their actins.
根據(jù)第一段中“Willful ignrance exists in large amunt in daily life. Peple regularly lk the ther way rather than examining the cnsequences f their actins. 可知,文章介紹的是故意無(wú)知的心理現(xiàn)象;同時(shí)根據(jù)第二段“we discvered that willful ignrance is cmmn and harmful, with 40 percent f peple chsing “nt t knw” the cnsequences f their actins t free themselves f guilt while maximizing their wn gains. 可知,有些人選擇“故意無(wú)知”的行為是為了逃避罪惡感,同時(shí)最大化自己的利益,即揭示了“故意無(wú)知”產(chǎn)生的原因;同時(shí),根據(jù)倒數(shù)第二段中“If we can avid putting a strng mral emphasis n decisins, it may make peple feel less threatened and, as a result, be less willfully ignrant. A選項(xiàng)“The reasn fr willful ignrance.(故意無(wú)知的原因。)” 故選A。
