These are a few f the encuraging messages and wrds f wisdm callers hear when they call the Peptc Htline. It's part f a public art prject created by teachers Jessica Martin and Asherah Weiss with students at West Side Elementary Schl, in Healdsburg, Califrnia. Since starting in late February, the htline has quickly becme a glbal sensatin(全球轟動(dòng)的事).
This was a surprise. "We planned this prject t be just fr ur little twn," Martin tld TIME fr Kids. After all, the cmmunity had been thrugh s much. Wildfires. COVID—19. And yet, Martin says f her students, "They're resilient (適應(yīng)力強(qiáng)的) and keep their happiness." The Peptc prject celebrates this thrugh art.
The Peptc prject includes tw parts: encuraging psters and the Peptc Htline. T cme up with ideas fr psters, Weiss and Martin shwed students wrk by ther artists. And they asked questins: Hw can I supprt smene else? Hw has smene else supprted me? Tgether, kids have put up mre than 150 psters arund Healdsburg s far. "Kids just ran with it," Weiss says. "It didn't take a lt t get them ging."
Next, Martin invited kids t recrd talks fr the telephne htline. Ask a kid fr advice, she says, and "they can cme up with three r fur different ideas." Their quick thinking "is als a testament (證明) t the teachers and families that have been helping them ver the past few years."
In its first six weeks, Martin says, the Peptc Htline gt nearly 5 millin calls frm arund the wrld. One Mre Elementary Schl teacher is shwing students the imprtance f cmmunicatin thrugh "shut-uts".
The third-grade teacher Lindsey Winders said a shut-ut is a cmpliment (稱贊) that students can say r write dwn. "Like, 'Hey, I nticed yu ding a really great jb slving yur maths prblems yesterday. I wanted t make sure yu knw that I saw yu d that,'" Winders said.
Winders said she makes sure she is giving shut-uts t her students every day. "I might write them a sticky nte, r write them a quick little nte in their planner. In additin t the cmpliments, Winders has the students greet each ther every mrning during the mrning meeting. She will have students give examples t the class f hw t cmmunicate in different settings (場(chǎng)景). A third-grade student Nayelli Mranchel said he had given at least six shut-uts this year. "It makes me happy, because they always write smething back," Mranchel said.
Recently, Winders tk it ne step further and wrte a persnalised nte n each f her students' desks. "In ur classrm, smetimes it can be challenging fr me t give a cmpliment r a shut-ut t each and every ne f them in a way that is equal and valuable at the same time.
