I discussed Lauren’s annuncement with my wife that evening and finally agreed. After all, there were nly 11 girls, nt everyne willing t play.
The next afternn, I parked in frnt f the schl gymnasium. Inside, Cach Frsythe greeted us, “We’re glad Lauren came ut fr the team. She is nt just a cheerleader!” Lauren std alne at the ther end f the curt, shting free thrws. N ther girl n the curt grinned（咧嘴笑）like Lauren did, and after every sht, Lauren apprvingly cried, “W h!”, seemingly nt caring if she made the basket r nt.
Mid-Nvember, the seasn’s first basketball game arrived. I settled int a seat with the rest f my family. The game gt ff t a gd start, but sn Lady Tigers was behind. Lauren fllwed the mvement n the curt and reacted t every play. Even thugh Lauren wasn’t playing, she lked as if she were having the time f her life. I felt admiratin fr my daughter. Plus, her team was getting beat, yet she still enjyed the actin. Just less than tw minutes left, and Lady Tigers was dwn by seventeen pints.

I made a basket!” Fr sixteen years, I’d tried hard t keep Lauren frm feeling like she was different. But frm this, I saw she really was different—nt physically r emtinally, but spiritually. I wrapped my arms arund her tightly. Lauren was different. And I was glad.
