The theme f the listening sectin is "talk abut scientific experiences", which fcuses n visiting the science museum, Thrugh this way f scientific inquiry and experience, students can activate their relevant experience, talk abut different types f scientific inquiry activities, describe their experience f participating in scientific experiments and scientific research, and cmmunicate with their classmates. This sectin reflects the cnnectin between science and life, science and learning.
Text analysis: listening text is a dialgue between friends. In the dialgue, Bill was nt able t visit the science museum because he was ill. His friend Judy tld him abut the interesting experience f scientific explratin. This experience invlves many scientific fields such as physics and bilgy, and fully mbilizes visitrs' multiple senses such as visin, hearing and tuch. Judy gave a vivid descriptin f the experimental facilities in the museum, and als expressed her wn wnder and curisity.
Instruct students t predict the listening cntent by bserving the pictures and t develp their pre listening predictin strategies,
Instruct students t grasp the key infrmatin and imprtant details f the dialgue
Instruct students t express their pinins n the scientific practice activities described in the listening dialgue, and share their experiences with their peers.
Instruct students t give a brief presentatin abut a scientific research r experimental activity they are interested in

Lead in
Lk at the pht belw, and discuss in grups what these activities have t d with science.
keys:
A: I think the dish in this exhibitin is related t sund. Maybe the by is whispering int the smaller circle and the dish can make his vice luder.
B: This lks like a pian yu play with yur feet. Maybe it shws hw sund wrks.
C: I'm nt sure what this ne shws, but it must be abut light r eyesight.
D: It is a hall f mirrrs. Maybe it has t d with the principles f reflectin.
E: This is prbably an experiment invlving the cmpsitin f light.
Step1: Befre listening:
The phts abve are related t the cnversatin yu will hear. Using the phts, try t predict the answers t the fllwing questins.
1. Where are the peple in the cnversatin ging t g?
2. What kind f place is it, and what des it fcus n?
3 .What kinds f things can yu d there?
keys:
1 Where are the peple in the cnversatin ging t g?
They are ging t a science museum.
2. What kind f place is it, and what des it fcus n?
It is a science museum that fcuses n letting visitrs experience science thrugh interactive learning exhibitins.
3 .What kinds f things can yu d there?
Yu can prbably try different activities t learn abut sund, light, reflectin, and s n. Fr example, yu can g t a rm with many mirrrs facing each ther s it lks like there are many cpies f yu! Or yu can play with a big pian n the flr.
Step2: Ask students t listen t the cnversatin and see if their answers fr Activity 2 are crrect. Then write dwn the letters (A-E) fr the phts in the rder that students hear them described.
keys: DCEBA
Step 3: .Ask students t listen again and cmplete the descriptins f the phts abve
Pht A: A giant dish; when yu speak int it, it _________________ the sund back and _____________.Yu can use it t speak in a_____________ t smene 17 meters away,
Pht B: A giant ____________.that yu can use yur feet t play. Instead f playing the sunds f a pian, it plays the vices f________________.
Pht C: Yu lk at a blue screen fr a while, and then suddenly yu can see________________ mving arund n it. These are ur_______________________
Pht D: A______________________ where yu can see yurself reflected thusands f times.
Pht E: Yu stand in frnt f_______________ and it casts different shadws f yu, in________________________ the rainbw.
keys:
A: reflects; makes it luder; whisper;
B: pian keybard; class
Step 4: Ask students t discuss the fllwing questins in grups:
1. The cnversatin is abut the City f Science and Industry, a museum in Paris. Wuld yu like t g t this museum? Why r why nt?
Yes . I can learn a lt abut science and it can braden my hrizns.
2. Are there any museums like this in China? What ther interesting museums are there?
Yes. There are ther interesting museums such as art museum r museum abut science and technlgy.
Step 5: Instruct students t make a shrt presentatin t the class abut yur chice. Use the example and useful phrases belw t help them.
EXAMPLE
Tday, I want t talk t yu abut a very strange phenmenn called a nn-Newtnian fluid. Yu can make it easily using equal parts f water and crnflur, like I have here. Ann-Newtnian fluid is strange because yu can pur it like a liquid, but if yu put any pressure n it, it suddenly becmes hard as cncrete. In fact, it becmes hard enugh t stand n. Then, as sn as yu take the pressure ff, it becmes a liquid again. This shws that it is pssible that smething can exist as a liquid and a slid at the same time.

Tday, I want t talk t yu abut the psitive and negative charges f mlecules. We can demnstrate hw these interact thrugh a simple experiment using milk, dish sap, and fd clring. First, cver the bttm f a shallw plate with milk. Nw add tw r three drps f different liquid fd clring t the center f the milk. They shuld frm ne large dark puddle in the middle f the milk. Nw, dip a cttn swab int dish sap, and it int the middle f the fd place clring. Yu will see the clrs quickly mve t escape frm the sap, making interesting and beautiful patterns. This happens because the dish sap mlecules have a strng negative charge, and the milk mlecules have a strng psitive charge. Like magnets, these mlecules are attracted t each ther, and s they appear t mve arund n the plate, taking the fd clring with them, making it lk like the clrs are quickly mving t escape frm the sap.
Listening text:
Judy: Oh, I'm s srry that yu were ill and culdn't cme with us n ur field trip. Hw are yu feeling nw? Better?
Bill: Much better, thanks. But hw was it?
Judy: Wnderful! I especially liked an area f the museum called Light Games.it was really cl. They had a hall f mirrrs where I culd see myself reflected thusands f times!
Bill: A hall f mirrrs can be a lt f fun. What else did they have?
Judy: Well, they had an experiment where we lked at a blue screen fr a while, and then suddenly we culd see tiny bright lights mving arund n it. Yu'll never guess what thse bright lights were!
Bill: Cme n, tell me!
Judy: They were ur wn bld cells. Fr sme reasn, ur eyes play tricks n us when we lk at a blue screen, and we can see ur wn bld cells mving arund like little lights! But there was anther thing I liked better. I std in frnt f a white light, and it cast different shadws f me in every clr f the rainbw!
Bill: Oh, I wish I had been there. Tell me mre!
Judy: Well, they had anther area fr sund. They had a giant pian keybard that yu culd use yur feet t play. But then, instead f playing the sunds f a pian, it played the vices f classical singers! Then they had a giant dish, and when yu spke int it, it reflected the sund back and made it luder. Yu culd use it t speak in a whisper t smene 17 meters away.
Bill: It all sunds s cl. I wish I culd have gne with yu
Judy: I knw, but we can g tgether this weekend. I'd lve t g there again!
Bill: That sunds like a great idea!
