Since diet is easy t change, Capdici and his clleagues (同事) wanted t take a clser lk at the impact f plant-based eating n the risk f these diseases. They studied the data cllected frm 48 reviews between January 2000 and June 2023, and fund that vegetarian diets were assciated with better health status n a number f risk factrs fr bth cardivascular disease (CVD) and cancer. Overall, these plant-based diets were assciated with better chlesterl (膽固醇) levels and bld sugar cntrl, a lwer risk f bth cancer and heart disease cmpared t thse f plant-and-meat eaters.
The team nted, thugh, that vegetarian pregnant (懷孕的) wmen did nt shw a significantly lwer risk f high bld pressure. They were als careful nt t draw cnclusins abut plant-based fds being the nly cause f these health imprvements.
It’s als wrth nting that plant-based diets can result in vitamin and mineral shrtage; and, f curse, many different health cnditins, such as allergies (過敏) require a careful, tailred apprach t fd. Because f these, the researchers cautin against the large-scale adptin f plant-based diets. Sme peple prefer paperbacks because they’re easy t brrw and share. Others will g fr e-readers. But which is the mre envirnmentally sustainable ptin?
Whether it’s better t read bks in print r n a device is cmplicated, because f the cmplex interactin f the resurces invlved acrss the entire lifecycle f a published wrk: hw bks and devices are shipped, what energy they use t run, if they can be recycled.
On the ne side, traditinal print publishing cmes with a high carbn ftprint. Accrding t 2023 data, 32 millin trees are cut dwn each year t make paper fr bks. Then there’s the energy-intensive prcesses f printing and shipping—t say nthing f the many bks that are destryed because they remain unsld. Althugh it’s standard practice in the industry, publishers dn’t want t destry bks. S instead, many are dnating unsld cpies, switching t n-demand printing. Publishers are als rethinking bk design, since certain fnts (字體) can be mre climate-friendly by using less ink and less paper.
On the ther hand, digital reading seems t have a cnsiderable ec-advantage ver print because it is paperless, s it saves trees and shipping. Mrever, tech cmpanies that make e-readers such as Amazn ffer recycling prgrams fr ld devices. But digital devices als cme with a substantial carbn ftprint, especially at the manufacturing stage. Their cases are made with plastics and the minerals in their batteries require resurce-heavy mining.
Figuring ut whether t take a digital device r a paperback t the beach ultimately depends n hw much yu read.“ If yu buy an e-reader and yu read lads and lads f bks n it, then it’s the lwest carbn thing t d,” said Mike Berners-Lee, the authr f The Carbn Ftprint f Everything. “But if I buy it, read a cuple f bks, and decide that I prefer paperback bks, then it’s the wrst f all wrlds.”
Yet Berners-Lee said that reading is still, relatively speaking, a pretty sustainable activity——regardless f whether yu read using an e-reader, phne r ld-fashined paperback.
32. Why is it hard t tell if print r digital bks are mre ec-friendly?
A. The whle prcesses fr bth invlve many resurces.
B. The ptin depends n the reader’s persnal preferences.
C. Recycling prgrams are nt equally effective fr bth types.
D. The envirnmental impact f reading habits is ften verlked.
33. What are bk publishers ding t reduce the envirnmental impact?
A. Cutting dwn fewer trees.
B. Destrying the unsld bks.
C. Emplying ec-friendly practices.
D. Fcusing n the sales f digital bks.
34. Accrding t Berners-Lee, an e-reader is mre sustainable than paperbacks when .
A. an e-reader is shared by many peple
B. yu charge it using renewable energy
C. an e-reader is recycled after being used
D. yu read a high vlume f bks digitally
35. Which is the mst suitable title fr the text?
A. Print bks vs. e-readers: which is yur favrite?
B. Paper bks vs. e-readers: which is better fr the climate?
C. Chse digital reading, fr it reduces mre carbn ftprint
D. Keep the balance f cnvenience and sustainability in reading

Wrse still, Justine, wh was a lyal servant and attached t my family, was wrngly sentenced t death even if everybdy in my family believed she was the last ne t kill William. I knew it was the mnster wh killed my dear William but hw culd I prve that? I felt regretful and guilty because it was I myself wh created such a mnster but there seemed t be nthing I culd d t stp him.
I nw felt that I was the true murderer.
The endless hrrr and despair cnsumed me everyday whenever I thught f my creatin being capable f killing anyne clse t me. I wished I culd kill him right away! I wanted t take revenge (復(fù)仇) fr the death f William and Justine.
Then came the chance when I climbed Mntanvert ne day. Reaching the tp and enjying the view, I suddenly saw a large man cming twards me at superhuman speed. Realizing it was the mnster, I shuted with anger and hrrr, “Devil! Hw dare yu cme near me? Aren’t yu afraid that I will take my revenge?”
“My creatr, yu want t kill me? Hw dare yu play with life like this?”

【答案】范文
He then threatened that if I didn’t agree, he wuld destry me and my family. A mixed feeling f hatred and hrrr crept int my mind. Hwever, his wrds had a strange effect upn me, pushing me t reflect n myself and the whle thing. Maybe it was I wh was t blame fr all the tragedies and his sufferings. Creating a cmpanin fr him might be a slutin. Having him swear that he wuld leave me in peace nce I finished my creatin, I prmised t give him what he wanted.
Weeks after my prmise, I fund it increasingly hard t cntinue my hrrible wrk. I culdn’t help picturing the disastrus future. “What if the mnster has children with my next creatin? Will they d evil things tgether?” S gravely did the wrry and hrrr haunt me that I culd see the ghstly figure f the mnster whenever I lked up. One night he did cme, with a disgusting grin n the twisted face. Trembling with fear and anger, I tre my wrk int pieces like crazy right befre him! I knew it was high time I ended this, whatever the price was.
