In mst classes, students sit at desks and listen t teachers in a classrm. But in a new class at Chapman Middle Schl (CMS) in Kansas, US, students are leaving the blackbards behind fr blue skies and green grass.
They are actually taking an utdr life class. It’s nt a typical (典型的) class, but teachers are trying it ut.
“We want kids t experience the utdrs,” the class teacher Jhn Harris said.
Twenty-six students attend a semester class. That is 15 t 18 weeks. The class includes fur parts: archery (射箭), hunting safety, survival skills (生存技能) and fishing. Students will als discuss hw t prtect natural resurces.
Befre Harris’ class this year archery teacher Andy Fewin taught a 9-week utdr life class. All CMS students tk it. “It gets kids invlved (參與) in smething ther than sitting and playing vide games,” Fewin said.
Harris shares the same idea. He believes everyne needs t enjy life and get utside. “The utdr life class aims t get the kids interested in cming t schl, really enjying their class time and understanding the big picture,” Harris said.
But he said everyne needs t finish their ther wrk first. “It really teaches them t fcus and pay attentin in class. If they dn’t, then they’ll miss ut n the fun things we’re ding,” he said.
