Taylr Hash wanted t be a career pilt. She had just started building up hurs f flight time when disaster struck. As she guided the Diamnd Star plane ff the runway at Oakland Cunty Internatinal airprt, n her third-ever independent flight, the frnt tyre (輪胎) f her plane fell ff.
Taylr was unaware at that pint that she had just lst crucial landing equipment. “I didn’t feel anything n the takeff rll (起飛滑跑).” she said.
Experienced pilt Chris Yates, thugh, saw smething n the takeff rll and immediately tk actin. He knew that Taylr wuld have t make a difficult emergency landing. He radied the cntrl twer and said, “The Diamnd Star that just tk ff lst its nse (頭部) wheel tyre n the runway.”
But the cntrl twer peratrs didn’t knw what t d. They’d never seen such a thing happen befre. Yates asked them t put him thrugh t Taylr s he culd help her.
When Taylr learned what had happened, she was in panic. With nly 57 ttal fight hurs under her belt, she didn’t knw what her ptins were and culd nly imagine hw this was ging t end.
“I didn’t knw what t d in that mment,” said Taylr later. “I’m just panicking and figuring ut hw I’m ging t land this plane safely.”
But Yates knew what t d. He knew that the mst imprtant thing wuld be t keep Taylr calm s that she culd fllw his instructins effectively.
Yates started by reassuring (使安心) Taylr that everything was ging t turn ut just fine: “Taylr, this is Chris Yates. My daughter’s name is Taylr, and I taught her t fly! We’re gnna be just fine. Just take yur time.” He tld her that she culd circle the field until she was ready t land. “When yu tuch dwn, I just want that stick (操縱桿) all the way back. Thrugh misty eyes, Taylr culd see the path t her career as a pilt becme clearer than ever.
