Hotels often undergo makeovers (翻新). However, few can compete with the Ice hotel in Jukkasj?rvi, Sweden. Carved entirely from “Snice”—a mix of snow and ice—the hotel is rebuilt annually, with each version more impressive than the previous one. The 32nd Ice hotel was open to guests on April 17, 2022.
The must-visit Swedish tourist destination came about accidentally. In 1989, Ice hotel’s founder Yngve Berquist organized an art show to attract tourists to Jukkasj?rvi during the chilly winter months. The exhibition, held inside a 5.5-square-metre igloo (冰屋), was a runaway (迅速的) success. Many visitors decided to spend the night, and all of Jukkasj?rvi’s warm houses were sold out. Hence, when a group approached Berquist about a place to spend the night, he offered them the igloo. “To my surprise, the guests were very impressed by the experience the morning after. Ice hotel was born,” Berquist recalls.
The Ice hotel has come a long way since its humble (簡陋的) start. Constructed from 1,000 tons of ice, and 30,000 tons of “Snice”, it now covers an area of over 5,500 square metres. Preparations for the annual hotel begin in March with the harvesting of 5,000 tons of ice from the nearby Torne River. The ice is kept in cold storage until November when about 100 workers and artists get to work carving out a new structure. Ice hotel is typically open for business by mid-December.
This year’s hotel comprises (由……組成) 36 rooms, including 12 crafted art suites (套間). Decorated with massive ice stones and carved water shapes, it aims to provide visitors with a good nature experience. The “Dickensian Street” suite promises to take visitors on a tour of 19th-century England, complete with cobbled (鋪鵝卵石的) streets, shops, and buildings from the era. Guests are advised to stay inside thermal (保暖的) sleeping bags and wear gloves and winter hats all night. Not surprisingly, most move to the conventional, warmer cabins nearby after a single night.

Self-confidence is an important quality to develop in your kid. It is associated with better grades, more satisfying personal relationships, better decision making, and greater self-control. Self-confidence is obtained from skills and competencies, experiences, treatment by others and the nature and frequency (頻率) of successes and failures. But, self-confidence is also affected by something as simple as how your kids carry themselves as they go about their daily lives. If kids behave more self-confidently, they feel more self-confident. Here are some direct instructions parents can give their kids to help them make it.
To start with, have your kids stand tall and straight with their shoulders back. This is particularly important for teenage girls. It is not unusual for girls to draw their shoulders inward as a way of avoiding dealing with the changes of their bodies. They will need help balancing being confident in their bodies.
Self-confident people stand and walk with their hands out and to the side of the body. Some research has provided evidence that placing your hands on your hips (髖部) results in greater decisiveness in business situations. This is sometimes referred to as the super hero stance. Before your kids are about to engage in an activity where self-confidence is required, have them stand like a super hero with their heads held high, their eyes focused on the horizon and their hands on their hips. It can feel kind of silly but will make a difference in their attitude and behaviour.
Finally, your kids need to be aware of how they actually walk. Self-confident people walk with big steps. They take solid steps with their head up, looking where they are going and making direct eye contact with people they encounter.
With a little time and some direct instruction, you can help your teen appear more self-confident which will actually help them feel more self-confident. You are the perfect person for them to practise on. One thing though. It is probably better to address this in private.
28. What will kids fail to gain with more self-confidence?
A. Better marks on the exam. B. Better relationship with others.
C. Greater self-control. D. The fastest decision making.
29. What does the underlined word “It” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Standing like a super hero.
B. Engaging in an activity.
C. Making eyes focused on a certain thing.
D. Holding heads high.
30. What can we know from paragraphs 2-4?
A. Teen girls always stand tall and straight with their shoulders back.
B. Self-confident persons aren’t afraid of straight eye contact.
C. It’s impolite to put your hands on your hips when you talk with others.
D. You should mind your steps when you walk, being careful and slow.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Self-confidence and Body Language
B. Self-confidence and Teen Girls
C. Self-confidence and Different Activities
D. Self-confidence and Good Quality

Mickey Mouse welcomed visitors to his new home in China on June 16, 2016 as Disney opened its first theme park in the mainland.
The park, located in the city of Shanghai, opened with fireworks.
Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort (度假勝地), said, “I can promise you that there is still so much left to be revealed, and I cannot wait to share it all with you in the months and years to come.”
Tens of thousands streamed into Shanghai Disneyland for its debut (問世), an event that was nearly two decades in the making. The $5.5 billion resort covers 963 acres, but Disney has already begun expansion.
Company officials said they tried to reflect Chinese preferences in the new park.
“We didn’t build Disneyland in China, we built China’s Disneyland,” said Bob Iger, Disney’s chairman.
There’s a traditional Chinese tea house featuring local food. The Lion King performed in Mandarin for the first time, features the Monkey King and characters dressed in Chinese opera garb (服裝) to appeal to an Asian audience.
In the castle, guests not only walk through, as they do in other Disney parks, they can also eat and shop. When it was discovered that Chinese people didn’t have a favourite Disney princess, the company decided that the castle would feature all the princesses. Parks in California and France are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.
“The visitors can learn the princesses over time, and this gives them an opportunity to have an introduction to all of the princess stories,” said executive producer Ali Rubinstein.
However, China’s Disneyland sometimes is not closely related to China. Disney’s only animated film based on a Chinese story, Mulan, which tells the tale of a Chinese warrior woman, got neither its own ride nor stage show. The character appears only as a statue and a float in the parade.
32. What’s Joe Schott’s attitude to Shanghai Disney Resort?
A. Disappointed. B. Concerned. C. Doubtful. D. Confident.
33. What can be learned from what Bob said in paragraph 6?
A. They build the theme park in China.
B. The theme park belongs to China.
C. The theme park has Chinese elements.
D. The theme park has a long Chinese history.
34. Why does China’s Disneyland have all kinds of princesses?
A. Chinese people have no certain favourite Disney princess.
B. Chinese people don’t know any princess characters in Disney movies.
C. Chinese people believe “the more, the better”.
D. Parks in other countries are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.
35. What is the purpose of giving the Mulan example?
A. To show the Chinese character of Disneyland.
B. To show Mulan is an important part of Chinese culture.
C. To show China’s Disneyland has not reflected enough Chinese culture.
D. To show Disneyland has too few Chinese character films.
第二節(jié)(共5小題;每小題2.5分,滿分12. 5分)
閱讀下面短文,從短文后的選項中選出可以填入空白處的最佳選項。選項中有兩項為多余選項。
Let us look at what makes an effective persuasive speech.
Choose a good topic.
First, you should choose a topic you know something about or have researched well to prepare for your speech. Make sure it is a subject about which people have different opinions. 36
It is also best to choose a subject your listeners care about or can act on. 37 You can expect that they care about how the town appears, or that they can change their actions. So, giving a speech about why littering harms your town’s appearance might persuade people who do it to stop.
38
You should consider your listeners as you plan your speech. What do they value? Thinking of the things your listeners value will help you form arguments in your speech. If you want them to stop eating unhealthy foods, for example, you may appeal to the value of their appearance. You will talk about how healthy foods result in good-looking skin and an attractive body.
Prepare your argument.
39 We use Greek words to describe them because the ancient Greeks developed and appealed to these ideas. They are:
Ethos—appeal to the listeners’ethics or morals.
Pathos—appeal to the listeners’emotions.
Logos—appeal to the listeners’logic or intelligence.
Organize your speech.
You should make an outline of your speech. Start with an attention-getting statement. Then explain your main idea and give evidence to support your argument. List the points you want to make and think of how to answer arguments against your position.
Finish with a call to action—what do you want your listeners to do? 40 Do not plan to read the speech word-for-word from a paper.
A. Know your audience.
B. Make the theme clear.
C. What will you do if you fail?
D. Do you see people in your town littering?
E. It would not be logical to speak about a fact recognized by everybody.
F. There are three common ways to persuade people of your way of thinking.
G. Finally, practice at home until you need only a note card with your main points on it when you give the speech.

A skull of the dinosaur, named Guemesia ochoai, was discovered in Argentina. Researchers said it likely belongs to a meat-eating, or carnivorous, group of dinosaurs 56 (call) abelisaurs. These dinosaurs walked on two legs and had very short arms, even 57 (short) than those of North America’s Tyrannosaurus rex. The short arms may have forced Guemesia 58 (depend) more on its powerful skull and jaws.
“Guemesia is so different 59 other meat-eating dinosaurs, which allows us to understand that we’re dealing with a 60 (total) new species,” said Agnolin Federico, the lead writer of a study on the dinosaur that was published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology.
The animals existed for a few million years before 61 asteroid (小行星) hit what is now Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula. That event, about 66 millions years ago, led to a series of 62 (disaster) that killed all the dinosaurs and many other animals. In total, about 75 percent of Earth’s species 63 (destroy) as a result of the asteroid.
Scientists believe abelisaurs lived on what is now Africa, South America and India. Several abelisaurs have been dug up in Argentina in the past but almost all of them were in southern Patagonia, far from the site 64 Guemesia was found.
Guemesia takes its name from Argentine independence hero Martin Miguel de Guemes and Javier Ochoa, a museum worker who made the 65 (discover).

It was 1:00 a. m. Thursday in the town art gallery. A window suddenly opened and a figure flashed out. It was Harry Black, a thief. He drew out his knife and took the painting worth $1 million out of the frame skillfully and carefully. Then he went back across the hall to the window where he had just climbed in. In the darkness, he bumped into a table with a beautiful blue glass vase on it, falling on the floor and breaking into pieces. Harry murmured to himself, “Is this $1 million vase? But I didn’t mean to.” Running across the pieces of glass, he disappeared.
Harry had a room in Mrs. Allen’s rooming house. He went up to his room as quietly as a mouse. Mrs. Allen and her daughter Janay were sleeping soundly. Harry took the painting, put it in a newspaper, hid them under his bed and left.
The next morning, Janay was in the kitchen, old bottles put into a box. Every Friday morning, a recycling truck would come and she was used to taking botties and old newspaper for recycling from every room in the house.
On the TV, an anxious reporter was making a live report at the very art gallery. “It’s $1 million painting,” he was saying. “Here’s a photo of it.” Then he was introducing a blue glass vase, “It’s in 100 pieces now.” Janay looked at the photo of the vase carelessly, asking her mother if she had some old bottles.
Janay opened Harry’s door and looked into his room. “There’s a newspaper under Harry’s bed.” She felt as if she’d found a priceless treasure.
Meanwhile, Harry was whispering with a man on the phone. Finally, a smile came out of Harry’s face. It was obvious that they had finally settled the price of the painting. But when Harry came back to the house, he saw the recycling truck going away and Janay smiling. It suddenly occurred to him that today was Friday. “NEWSPAPER!Oh no!”he exclaimed in despair and chased after the truck, “Wait! Wait!”

30. B 推理判斷題。根據(jù)第四段最后一句可知,自信的人會與他們所遇到的人直接進行眼神交流。所以B項正確。根據(jù)第三段可知,應(yīng)該像超人一樣雙手叉腰,所以C項不正確,根據(jù)第四段“Self-confident people walk with big steps.”

根據(jù)“I can promise you that there is still so much left to be revealed”可知,Joe Schott的態(tài)度是充滿信心的。
33. C 推理判斷題。后面的中國茶社、當(dāng)?shù)厥澄?、中國戲曲服裝、美猴王等都在說中國迪士尼是融入了中國當(dāng)?shù)匚幕牡鲜磕針穲@。所以選擇C項。
34. A 細節(jié)理解題,根據(jù)文中“When it was discovered that Chinese people didn’t have a favourite Disney princess, the company decided that the castle would feature all the princesses.”

42. A 根據(jù)“she’d award him $1,800 on his 18 th birthday”以及后文內(nèi)容判斷。此處claim his prize意為“索取了他的獎金”。
43. B 根據(jù)第一段內(nèi)容中“If he _______ the challenge”可知。
44. D 此處stay off意為“遠離……”,可根據(jù)首段中“Lorna challenged her 12-year-old son Sivert to distance himself from social media”可知。
45. D 根據(jù)后文內(nèi)容西弗特做到了以及此句句意可知。句意:西弗特說,沒有社交媒體生活并不困難,在這六年里,他也沒怎么想過。
46. B 西弗特說他反正不怎么使用社交媒體。anyway=anyhow adv.“無論如何,不管怎樣”。
47. C 根據(jù)前文約定可知,母子在打賭。

第一節(jié)
One possible version:
Dear Peter,
I’m more than excited that you are planning to know a Chinese friend, who has the same interest as you. I am writing to introduce some details to you about my friend called Wang Tao.
Firstly, Wang Tao, who is an enthusiastic boy, is good at playing badminton. And he often makes full use of spare time to playing badminton. It is the fact that he has been a member in the city badminton club for about three years. In addition, he loves playing chess whenever he returns from school. In my opinion, Wang Tao may have some other hobbies that you can share.
I wonder if Wang Tao is the suitable person for you. Please write back to me as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二節(jié)
One possible version:
Janay watched him puzzled. “Why is your newspaper important, Harry?” she asked. But Harry didn’t listen to her at all, just thinking the $1,000,000 painting. Janay was looking at Harry’s shoes. His shoes were covered with some blue glass. All of a sudden, she remembered of the blue glass vase on the TV. Looking again, she thought. “Is it from the vase in the art gallery? Is Harry Black the thief?”
Janay hurried home and dialed the police. Two policemen arrived quickly. At first Harry didn’t understand what was going on. One of the policemen took the glass from Harry’s shoes. “This is a very expensive piece of glass,” he continued after a pause, “from a very expensive vase. Remember?” On hearing this. Harry sank to the ground. More policemen also rushed to the scene, and later they found the paining. “Awesome!” one of the policemen gave her a thumbs up.

(Text 1)
W: I nearly came to see you yesterday morning.
M: I wish that you had, for then I wouldn’t have been cleaning the windows, and so I wouldn’t have fallen off the stepladder.
(Text 2)
W: Jim has quite serious problems with his chest and coughs badly all the time. He looks thin.
M: The doctor has given him some medicine to take for his cough. He really should listen to the doctor and cut down on smoking. With the decrease, he is likely to gain weight.
(Text 3)
M: Now I’d like to talk some more about Bill’s performance. He has been on the job for a week and already he’s acting like he is the boss.
W: He’s not going to last long with that attitude.
(Text 4)
W: As the saying goes. God helps those who help themselves. I heard you got a full mark in maths exams. Congratulations!
M: Thanks! I’m sure you also did a good job.
(Text 5)
W: I’d really like to learn how to play the violin, but it looks so complicated.
M: If you can play just one musical instrument, you’ll be able to learn how to play others relatively quickly. What about going over the basic this afternoon?
(Text 6)
M: It’s very nice of you to invite me to China.
W: I’m very glad you could come, Mr. Smith. Would you like to have some chicken?
M: Thank you. This is my first time to a Chinese restaurant. When I was in Canada, I know some good Italian and French restaurants and I am used to going there. Could you tell me the different features of Chinese food?
W: Generally speaking. Cantonese food is a bit light. Shanghai food is rather oily. And Hunan dishes have a strong and hot taste.
M: Chinese dishes are well prepared and delicious. They are very good in colour, flavour, and taste.
W: Would you care for another helping?
M: No more, thank you. I want to give this soup a try.
W: How do you like the food tonight?
M: It tastes neither strong nor hot. It’s the most delicious dinner I’ve ever had.
W: I’m so glad you like it.
(Text 7)
W: Oh no! I don’t have Amanda’s phone number.
M: What’s wrong, Miyako?
W: Amanda said we should get together again, and that I should call her, but I don’t have her phone number.
M: I see. Well, don’t worry about it. For Americans, that’s usually a friendly way to say goodbye. It’s like when Americans say “Hello, how are you?” But they don’t want you to tell them how you are, it’s just a friendly greeting.
W: So saying “Let’s get together sometime.” is similar to that?
M: Yeah, that’s right.
W: I have gained a lot of knowledge. Culture is closely related with language.
M: Right! Understanding different cultures is an important aspect of mastering and using English.
W: I profit more from one meeting with you than from ten years of reading. I should communicate with foreigners more and share this experience. Thank you very much for speaking with me.
M: Not at all!
(Text 8)
W: Simon, can you imagine I forgot to remind the boss of the important meeting?
M: What an awkward mistake! As a secretary, you shouldn’t forget to keep the boss informed of all the important schedules. This is quite different from your previous job as a flight attendant and a bank clerk.
W: I certainly know it, but this morning I didn’t feel very well, so…
M: That’s really a silly mistake. Any small mistake may cost our company great losses.
W: I understand what you mean. It makes me look incapable. I’m afraid I will be fired. How can I fix it?
M: Apologize to him and give an explanation.
W: I hope our boss will forgive me. I really don’t want to lose my job.
M: Relax. I believe he will take your condition into careful consideration.
W: You are so sweet.
(Text 9)
M: How amazing Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics are! Do you think so, Linda?
W: You can say that again. Tom! I like the opening ceremony most. Did you go there to watch any games?
M: No. but my friend Jack Ma was a volunteer there. As the event is over, visitors are allowed to go into the Stadium. He invited us to visit it and other sporting venues next weekend.
W: That doesn’t appeal to me. It’s freezing cold. Besides, I have just come back from a winter camp.
M: You have been expecting to learn how to ski. Now it is the perfect time.
W: But I have planned to take a local trip, which is money-saving.
M: Come on. Jack told me there is an amazing ice lake, beautiful snow, and various winter sports. He has already reserved a hotel for us nearby.
W: Well. I can’t say no. But I have already agreed to do something with my friend Susan at that time.
M: She’s going, too.
W: Really? Then... I guess I’ll go.
(Text 10)
M: When I was small and my grandmother died, I couldn’t understand why I had no tears. But that night when my dad tried to cheer me up. my laughs turned into crying.
Just as laughing has many health advantages, scientists are discovering that so does crying.
Whatever helps us to reduce pressure is important to our emotional health, and crying seems to work well. One study found that 85 percent of women and 73 percent of men report feeling better after crying.
Researchers agree that when we cry, people around us become kinder and friendlier and they are more ready to provide support and comfort. Tears also enable us to understand our emotions better. Sometimes we don’t even know we’re very sad until we cry. We learn about our emotions through crying, and then we can deal with them.
Just as crying can be healthy, not crying—holding back tears of anger, pain or suffering—can be bad for physical health. Studies have shown that too much control of emotions can lead to high blood pressure, heart problems and some other illness. If you have a health problem, doctors will certainly not ask you to cry. But when you feel like crying, don’t fight it. It’s a natural, healthy and emotional response.
