When I was young, I had never seen my father and my mother left me when I was three years old. My grandma raised me, but she passed away because of heart disease when I was 15, and I didn’t have any close family left.
Then the child service sent me to a children’s home. I had lost hope of a “usual” life and felt lonely. Before going to the children’s home, I had volunteered at the local hospital to have hospital experience, since I wanted to be a doctor.
I continued to work, although there were many ups and downs along the path. I got married at the age of 24. My daughter was born and I promised myself to fight harder in life and pursue my dream. I took a chance and looked for a better job—I was accepted!
The lay-off (裁員) at 27 years old caused my life to change again. For my child, I went on fighting for our better life. Successful or not, at least I tried. I applied (申請(qǐng)) to 5 medical schools in the community to stay close to my child. I was accepted in 2006 to enter a 4-year college for a degree in biology.
I worked hard and did not let anything prevent me from achieving my goal. I am now a doctor and could not be happier.
I continue to be encouraged by those I meet who have gone through much worse than me and have achieved success. We can all get so much in our lives. I hope this story provides you with hope.

Many scientists agree that animals feel emotions (情緒) just like humans. Although there is discussion about how they experience them, animals’ acts suggest that they experience things like happiness, sadness, worry and excitement.
Whales are quite smart and can express sadness. In 2018, an orca (虎鯨) mother was seen taking her dead child around for weeks as she couldn’t accept the child’s death. Another example shows that whales can be sorry for other animals. Humpback whales fight with orcas to protect seals (海豹). They keep the seals out of danger by lifting them out of the water on their backs.
When an older elephant passes away, its family often stay by its body for a long time, and members will softly touch the dead elephant’s body. This shows that elephants are able to express sadness. And like whales, elephants take part in protective action toward other animals. For example, they’re known to protect people from dangerous animals in the wild.
In one study, a group of mice froze when they saw another group getting shocked (電擊). Because they had experienced the same electric shocks. This showed mice became uncomfortable and worried when seeing others’experience.
Honeybees show states similar to excitement. The bees were divided into two groups. One group was given sweet water after landing on blue flowers, while the other group didn’t. When scientists placed the blue flowers in front of the bees again, the first group flew faster than the second group, suggesting excitement.
The emotions of animals are interesting to study. Besides what we have already known, lots of secrets still remain in the inner lives of animals.

Global warming (全球變暖) is one of the most serious problems that our planet is facing today. 32 Scientists at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), however, believe they may have a clever solution: space bubbles (泡).
33 It is made of a thin, reflective material (something that can throw back heat from a surface). If thousands of bubbles were connected together and placed far out in space between Earth and the sun, they could lower temperatures enough to stop the influences of global warming. 34 But scientists have already come up with ideas on how to deal with the possible dangers. They believe it won’t be difficult to solve it, just a simple move. 35
For now, the project is still in progress. But scientists at MIT have already succeeded in inflating (使膨脹)a 0.0005-millimeter-thick bubble. It is stable (穩(wěn)定的) at the temperature of –50°C. 36 If successfully completed, this space- bubble cover could buy us necessary time to make some much-needed changes to our energy habits.

First of all, take a health check on eyes every year. In this way, we can find out the problems in time. Besides, eat more fruit and vegetables. They are good for our eyes. What’s more, get enough sleep. We should make sure that our eyes have a good rest, or our eyes may feel dry and uncomfortable.

One possible version:
Save water, go green
What is known to all is that water plays an important role in our life. Our body is mainly formed by water, more than 70%. We can’t live without water. However, many people don’t realize they are wasting water. It’s necessary for us to take measures to save water.
When washing hands, water should be kept as small as possible to avoid loss. After using water, the tap should be turned off. Used water should be reused. For example, the water left over after washing vegetables can be used to water plants or to clean the floor.
In brief, water is of great importance. We’re supposed to save water.
