Life is full of the unexpected. 生活充滿了意外。unexpected adj. 出乎意料的;始料不及的(1)否定前綴un-+expected→ unexpectedI’m surprised at the unexpected news.聽到這個(gè)意外的消息,我很驚訝。(2) the unexpected意為意外;意想不到的事情。在英語中,有些形容詞與定冠詞連用,表示一類人或事物,在句子中起到名詞的作用。the old 老年人              the poor 貧窮的人the homeless 無家可歸的人   the sick病人2. I overslept.我睡過頭了。oversleep(overslept, overslept) 動(dòng)詞,意為睡過頭;睡得太久,復(fù)合詞中的over常有過于……之意。Don’t oversleep, Dean! You are to be late.迪恩,別睡過頭了!你要遲到了。3. By the time I got up, my brother had already gotten in the shower.在我起床之前,我哥哥已經(jīng)進(jìn)了淋浴間。by the time意為 ……以前,引導(dǎo)時(shí)間狀語從句,后面通常接表示過去的時(shí)間狀語從句,主句常用過去完成時(shí),謂語動(dòng)詞形式為: had+動(dòng)詞過去分詞。By the time I got there, he had already left. 在我到那兒之前,他已經(jīng)離開了。 4. My alarm clock didn’t go off!我的鬧鐘沒有響!go off是動(dòng)詞短語,此處意為(鬧鐘等)發(fā)出響聲。The alarm clock went off suddenly when I was sleeping.我正在睡覺,我的鬧鐘突然響了。5. So I just quickly put on some clothes and rushed out of the door.于是我快速穿上衣服沖出了門口。rush out of 是固定短語,意為沖出去, 沖出……。Henry picked up his hat and rushed out of the room. 亨利拿起帽子,沖出了房間。6. Luckily, Carl’s dad saw me on the street and gave me a lift in his car. 幸運(yùn)的是,卡爾的父親在街上看見我,捎了我一程。(1) luckily 副詞,意為幸運(yùn)地,位于句子開頭作狀語,修飾整個(gè)句子。Luckily, he didn’t hurt badly. 幸運(yùn)的是,他沒有傷得很重。[拓展] luck(運(yùn)氣)—lucky(幸運(yùn)的)—luckily(幸運(yùn)地)名詞           形容詞           副詞(2) give sb. a lift是固定短語,意為捎某人一程Could you give me a lift, please?請(qǐng)問你能否捎我一程?Jim gave me a lift on my way home yesterday.昨天吉姆在我回家的路上捎了我一程。Step 10 Homework1.
