Tom Taelman is a 40-year-old man from Belgium. Now he runs a chocolate workshop (工作坊) in Chengdu, Sichuan.
“Belgian chocolate is well-known all over the world. I hope more Chinese people can get to know Belgian chocolate and Belgium,” said Taelman. Taelman learned the skills of chocolate making during his childhood when his family owned a chocolate factory in his home country.
Taelman first set foot in Chengdu in 2013 during a business trip to China. Two years later, he got married to his wife Chen Li, a woman from Sichuan. One year after their marriage, the couple created a Belgian chocolate brand named Choclito.
Under the influence of his wife, Taelman became interested in traditional Chinese culture and came up with the idea of integrating Chinese elements (融合中國元素) with his chocolate making.
Taelman created chocolates in the shape of Sichuan-style mahjong (麻將), pandas, the 12 Chinese zodiac signs (生肖), mooncakes and so on. “These wonderful and creative products are popular among my customers,” Taelman said with a smile on his face.
According to Taelman, many of his Belgian friends, after learning about China’s fast development and friendly living environment, have planned to visit China. “China has a long history and a rich culture,” said Taelman, adding that he hoped more foreigners could come to enjoy the beauty of this country.

When Christopher Reeve made the first Superman film, people always asked him the definition (定義) of a hero. He used to answer that it was a person who did something heroic without considering the results. But later he said his definition was different — a hero is a common person who finds the strength to go on living although he faces lots of difficulties.
Reeve used to be a very lucky person. He was tall, good-looking and talented. Apart from his acting ability, he was also very good at sports. He could ski, dive (滑雪、潛水), fly a plane, ride a horse, etc.
However, everything changed on a day in 1995. Reeve got hurt badly when he fell off a horse. He hit his head on the ground and broke his neck. Just after the accident, Reeve’s mother thought he should be allowed to die. She couldn’t imagine that he would want to live in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Reeve himself wasn’t sure, either. The only person who was able to make him believe that life was still worth living was his wife Dana. She told him, “It’s your life and you have to make the decision. But I want you to know that I’ll be with you. You’re still you and I love you.” This was the key to his recovery (恢復(fù)).
Just three months after he left hospital, Reeve appeared at a big film festival in a wheelchair. Although he couldn’t’ breathe without artificial (人工的) help, he worked hard and didn’t give up hope.
26. The writer begins the passage by ________.
A. introducing a film B. giving a suggestion

Writing a wish-list to parents and waiting to open presents—festivals are often about enjoying treats. Although it can be fun, it’s easy to overlook other people in all the excitement. Did you know that giving to others could actually make you happier?
Giving means offering something free to a family member, a friend, a stranger or a whole community. Choosing a thoughtful gift is one common way to give during some festivals, but giving is about much more than presents. “Giving isn’t just about physical things; it can be something as simple as giving your time to people,” explains Georgina Bennett from the organization Action for Children. “For example, helping family and friends with jobs around the house or helping an elderly neighbor cross the street is giving too.”
①Scientists have found that pleasure centers in our brain become active when we give to others. ②”Giving can boost (使增長) our happiness,” explains Bennett. ③According to some scientists, people who give to others report greater happiness than those who treat themselves. ④Giving can also help us feel more connected to other people.
Now you may want to give to others, but how? “There are lots of things that you can do. They may not cost anything or the cost may be really small,” advises Bennett. “For example, giving your time by playing with younger relatives or helping with the family pet. Baking (烘焙), writing letters to loved ones or donating (捐贈) toys and clothes are other ways to give during some festivals. Even simple things like giving food you no longer need to your local food bank can make a really big difference.”
31. What does the underlined word “overlook” in Paragraph 1 mean in Chinese?
A. 期待 B. 嫉妒 C. 忽略 D. 審視
32. In Paragraph 2 the writer uses Bennett’s words ________.
A. to show that giving comes in different forms
B. to tell how to choose gifts for different people
C. to explain the reason why people give to others
D. to show that we should care about our family and friends
33. The structure of Paragraph 3 may be ________.
A. B.
C. D.
34. What is the last paragraph mainly about?

C. Enjoy Giving D. Festival Gifts

What if you went to the latest movie and found there was no sound? You would probably ask for your money back! Believe it or not, there was a time when movies had no sound at all. These movies were called silent films, and there was one actor that was one of the most famous stars in that time: Charlie Chaplin.
Charlie was born in England in 1889 to pretty talented parents. His dad was an actor, and his mom was a singer and actress. With his parents, Charlie was destined (命中注定的) to be a star! Sadly, his father left the family shortly after Charlie was born, and his mother was ill and could not care for him. So it was up to him to find ways to make a living.
His first performance actually happened because of his mom. She was in the middle of a show when she lost her voice, so Charlie went out to take the place of her. The crowd loved him! Soon he was performing with different groups of people doing vaudeville (雜耍) shows. Although he loved performing, sometimes he did not make enough money, so he did lots of jobs. He was even a toymaker!
An American movie producer discovered Charlie Chaplin and signed (簽約) him. He only made $150 a week as a movie star, but at that time it was a great deal for Charlie.
A lot of actors in the movies seemed alike (十分相似) to Charlie. He wanted to make himself stand out, so he created a character called The Tramp. He played this character in many different movies. He made quite a few movies, in one year starring in 35 films! By the time he was 26 years old, he was a famous star.
