This worked out well. But the whole event cost us hundreds of pounds. This year,I'm trying to convince him that the dinosaur-themed park down the road offers just as much fun-and you don't even need to wear special socks! This will be cheaper, because we aren't required to hire a space-we can simply buy tickets for his mates. But I still keep pondering over one thing-party bags. Why should a bunch of seven-year-olds,who have already been treated to a day out and a mountain of sugar, also be handed a bag full of pound-shop gifts for simply bothering to show up?Party bags are an environmental disaster.I reckon my son attends20 parties per year, and at each party there are 20 kids in attendance, which means 400 plastic bags in total.Within these 400 bags are perhaps 800 plastic toys, almost all of which fall apart on the journey home and then get binned instantly. The waste is shocking, and I don't want to be part of it. I know there are some party bag alternatives, one couple I know covered a table with Mr.Men books and got the kids to choose one each. At another party, I saw the hosts fill a bucket with????????????? soft toys and????????????? crumpled newspaper, and do lucky dip(抽獎(jiǎng)).AdmirableEven if that is a nice try, and even if the contents in the party bags don't fall part, so what? Will our guests think more highly of our child because of the party bags from our Will????????????? child's ability to make and keep friends be improved?Well, the tradition for kids' party bags ends with me, and it ends here, and it ends  now.  Who's with me? 4.Why does the author recommend the dinosaur themed park?A.Because it's more enjoyable.B.Because it provides socks.C.Because it can reduce costs.D.Because it offers free tickets.5.What may be put in party bags?

COver the past few years, electric scooters have been brought to Paris and dozens of other cities worldwide as an environmentally-friendly individual transport option. What cities have gotten instead is chaos-scooters shooting down sidewalks at dangerous speeds or laying abandoned on sidewalks. Both riders and pedestrians have been injured and sometimes killed. The people of Paris have spoken loud and clear: get electric scooters off of our streets. Among the 100,000 people, nearly 90% of them vote in favor of a scooter ban. It's easy to see why. When it comes to scooters, there are often not many rules regulating them, and enforcement(執(zhí)行)is far from perfect. In Paris, for example, the city technically banned multiple riders on a single scooter and scooters on sidewalks, but it is not unusual in Paris to see couples on a single scooter, flying down a city sidewalk In New York City,  thee is scooter speed limit. But it's pretty rare to see a New York City policeman doling out a ticket to a scooter rider. Other cities require scooter riders to obey standard traffic laws, but these regulations are often overlooked.Another problem with scooters is that there is no obvious spot for them within urban infrastructure. They go far too fast to be safe on the sidewalk, which may bring potential risks to pedestrians. But scooters are also inappropriate for the bike:  lane-they don't move like bikes, which makes them difficult to see and navigate around and can be dangerous for scooter drivers and cyclists. Scooters also aren't suitable for the road. Scooters don't go fast enough to share space with cars; and their riders are not protected against vehicles going 30 miles per hour or more.In cities where public transport is solid and pedestrians fill the sidewalks, scooters should see themselves out or be regulated out. And in other cities where cars dominate and public transport is lacking, the priority should be to build new infrastructure to move people around efficiently and greenly.8. What can we learn about electric scooters?A.They are costly and noisy.B.They are eco-friendly but risky.C.They are deadly and abandonedD.They are convenient but inefficient.9.What does the example of the New York policeman indicate?A.Rarely do New Yorkers ride scooters on the street.B.The larger the city is, the stricter the regulations are.C.Relevant regulations have not been strictly enforced.D.Parisians are more obedient to traffic regulations,10.What is paragraph 4 mainly about? o a bA.Scooters run at a low speed.B.Scooters pose potential risks.C.There is no navigation system on scooters.D.There is no lane specially designed for scooters,11.What is the purpose of the last paragraph?A.To define.B.To adviseC.To warn..D.To compareDIf you visited big aquarium such as SeaWorld or the Miami Seaquarium a decade ago, performances by tiger whales were probably a centerpiece of the visiting experience. However, animal????????????? advocates have pushed to end the harmful????????????? practice of keeping these enormous????????????? whales????????????? locked up in small pools and forcing them to perform for audiences. Now the good news is emerging from this continuing movement. Lolita, one tiger whale living in the Miami Seaquarium, may soon be released to the Salish Sea where her mother lives.Lolita's possible homecoming is a longtime coming. The enormous animal was caught in 1970 in the Salish Sea, a body of water off the coast of Washington, which is home to tiger whales. Until now she has spent the past 52 years in captivity in Miami, Her tank is considered the smallest among those of captive whales in America. She has been forced to perform for crowds for decades. This has resulted in injuries. She has hither head while performing “fast swims",and her blood work has been abnormal.Whales in captivity can suffer severe health issues.Lolita outlived her tank-mate Hugo, who died of aneurism(動(dòng)脈瘤)caused by hitting his head on the aquarium walls. "Lolita's lucky,”said Howard Garrett,a whale researcher and activist, “It’s against all odds that she is still alive. I think it’s her mental health that keeps her physical health in good shape. She is a complete miracle in her ability to stay healthy."According to the United States Department of Agriculture, Lolita may not be getting enough food and water. This only adds to the list of health concerns which can appear in captivity. Activists who have been pushing for decades may at last see Lolita return to the Salish Sea, where her mother, a 93-year-old tiger whale known as “Ocean Sun”, leads a pod. Returning these magnificent creatures to their natural habitat is a humane solution advocated for by the likes of the International Marine Mammal Project.12.Which of the following best describes Lolita?A.She got many injuries while performing for audiences over 50 years.B.Her blood works well though she suffers severe health problems.C.She was caught on the beach in Miami as a result of her injuries.D.She was switched to a bigger tank because of her mate's attack.13.Why is Lolita in good physical health according to Howard Garrett?A.Her mental state is sound.B.Hugo influenced her positively.C.She gets timely medical treatment.D.Whale researchers offer necessary aids.14.What can we know from the last paragraph?A.Activists have succeeded in accomplishing the project.B.Lolita will definitely fit in with the pod led by her mother.C.Joint efforts are being made to release creatures like Lolita.D.There's little hope for Lolita to return to her natural habitat.15.What is the best title of the passage?A.Lolita, the Last Tiger Whale in the WorldB.Lolita, Released to the Salish SeaC.Animals in Capacity Are Suffering a LotD.Lolita  May Soon Go Free from Captivity第二節(jié)(共5小題;每小題2.5分,滿(mǎn)分12.5分)閱讀下面短文,從短文后的選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。In this day and age, gadgets have become a significant part of our daily lives: While it does make people's lives easier, there are disadvantages.16 You might have noticed how everyone is constantly clicking their phones, iPad, and other portable devices. Goldie had golden eyes, which was very rare in pigeons. Grandfather said he had never had a pigeon like her.Goldie was a champion racing pigeon and had won loads of cups. But once, around the time Goldie was released two hundred miles away for a race, Danny’s grandfather was hospitalized with a heart attack. The responsibility of waiting for Goldie and taking care of the other pigeons then fell on Danny. However, Goldie did not fly back on time as usual. In order not to upset his grandfather, while visiting him that night with his parents, Danny lied that Goldie had already returned and won the first place. “I knew it”, said Danny's grandfather, settling back on his pillows, “I always knew she was a winner. She’s one in a million.”  Grandfather believed the lie.Sometimes grandfather's racing pigeons got lost due to bad weather or got attacked by falcons(獵鷹)and never came back homebut those had never happened to Goldie. She always came home, right on time. “Goldie must have been eaten by those falcons nesting in the quarry(采石場(chǎng))on her way back home",Danny thought to himself bitterly and his chest was burning. Danny swore to himself to take revenge. “They are a threat, those falcons! I must get rid of them and pull down their nest.”It only took Danny five minutes to reach the quarry. Danny looked around the quarry walls and found their nest on a steepest side, which was a long way up. He climbed fast-there were old tree roots to grab hold of. His hands were bleeding. But he didn't feel the pain. He was hanging on the rock wall with his finger-tips like a starfish. His arms were so weak and trembling, but he was finally there.注意:1.續(xù)寫(xiě)的詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右;2.請(qǐng)按如下格式在答題卡的相應(yīng)位置作答。Just as he reached out his hand to destroy the falcons' nest, he suddenly saw the baby-falcons in it.   Halfway down, he saw Goldie in a hole on the rock, wing-broken but still alive.
