一、閱讀理解    With the extensive growth of crops, the requirement of modern techniques has become necessary. Here are some modern technology used in agriculture for enhancing productivity:Information Technology in Agriculture    The most important contribution of Information Technology has been the weather forecast reports. It has helped the farmers be better prepared and gives them a heads-up if any heavy rainfall is to occur in the near time. It also gathers information and keeps track of the market prices, seasonal changes, cultivation tricks and so on.Data Accumulated From Soil    For farmers to make informed decisions, it is necessary to understand the nature of the soil. Thus, to understand the land and to analyze its future productivity, the farmers need to learn more about the past and present state of the land. For this, the soil data is accumulated, and soil maps are prepared, to provide access to various farmers and agriculturists to study the soil capacity so that sustainable agriculture can be initiated.Minochromosol Technology    The concept of Minochromosol Technology is very much similar to the workings of a cell. There are numerous particles inside a cell, one of which is a chromosome. It is responsible for genetic development in our bodies and it holds a lot of significance. They decide the traits in our bodies. Minochromosol Technology takes the help of chromosomes. With the help of this, many farmers can yield great profits and has helped save crops from getting infected or deficient.Sensors-Soil and Water    Soil and Water sensors are an economical option for farmers who cannot afford highly equipped and costly technological advancements. These low-cost sensors help detect the nitrogen level and moisture content in the soil and crops. It helps the farmers to plan and schedule their crops' water requirements.1In what aspect does Information Technology benefit agriculture most?A. Providing farmers with a heads-up about the market price.B. Making weather predictions and getting farmers prepared.C. Keeping track of local demands for goods.D. Acquiring information about the soil.2Which modern technology gets the inspiration from human body?A. Information Technology in Agriculture. B. Data Accumulated From Soil.C. Minochromosol Technology. D. SensorsSoil and Water.3、What makes Sensors—Soil and Water an economical option?A. Gathering information. B. Accumulating data.C. Restoring water.  D. Saving cost.    Katherine Commale has long known what it is like to greet admiring crowds of kids, to have strangers beg for her signature, and to be featured in books and on TV shows. And yet most of her fellow Americans have never heard of the girl, who has helped to save millions of lives in African villages from malaria. The story began when she was only five.    On a spring night in 2006, Katherine's mother, Lynda, watched Malaria: Fever Wars. The documentary showed the mosquito-borne disease caused millions of deaths in Africa. The next morning, she told her daughter about the program over breakfast. The little girl was particularly troubled to hear that and Lynda switched the topic to things her little girl could do to help, like donating mosquito nets.    Initially, Katherine tried raising money by selling some old items, but failed. Soon, she and her younger brother Joseph decided to use small dolls to represent African families with Joseph dressed as a large mosquito, to explain to other children how a simple and cheap mosquito net could protect a sleeping child. Then they went to Katherine's Sunday school and other schools. The idea took off. When that first effort ended, Katherine and her family donated $1,500 to the United Nations Foundation to purchase mosquito nets.    Katherine's efforts caught the attention of many international celebrities, such as David Beckham and Bill Gates. When she was six, she attended the first Malaria Awareness Dayobservance(紀(jì)念儀式) at the White House, and later a Clinton Global Initiative event where she met former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Although Katherine's pace slowed down as she entered middle school, her fame was rising around the world. She has even been featured in aboard game beside the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai. “I'm not Malala what so ever,” she said. “It's just an act of kindness.”4、What can be inferred about Katherine from the first paragraph?A. She is widely recognized outside the USA.B. She appeared on TV shows at the age of 5.C. She has traveled to many African villages.D. She has made great contributions to America.5How did Katherine get her first sum of money?A. By selling used things. B.By turning to her family.C. By dressing as small dolls. D. By delivering performances.6、Which can best describe Katherine?A. Caring and modest. B. Ambitious and cautious.C.Optimistic and sympathetic. D. Considerate and faithful.7What is the main idea of the passage?A. A simple net helped prevent malaria.B. Katherine earned respect for her kindness.C. Katherine's mother had a big influence on her.D.Katherine's wisdom shook the world.    You probably like blue, and you're not alone. Across the globe, a majority of people tend to select blue as their favourite colour. A new study from University of Wisconsin found that not only do we adore blue, but we start to give meaning to colors as we age.    During the study conducted by psychology professor Karen Schloss at the University of Wisconsin in 2019, the researchers investigated the science of how different people perceive colour. They noted that subjects with a preference for a sports team found their favourite team's colors more favourable. The more they valued their team, the more they favoured the specific colour. "It tells us that our experiences with the world are constantly influencing the way we view colour," Schloss says.    So, why does blue dominate lists of favorites? From previous surveys the researchers found that blue has been a favourite colour. Even the earliest-recorded colour studies from the 1800sshow that blue is universally loved, due at least in part to our fondness for blues in nature. Many colors in nature that we love are blue, especially a blue sky, the sea and many flowers. A blue sky is enough to make many people very happy. It's possible then, that blue offer plenty of positive experiences, which we unconsciously link to our favourite colour.    But blue isn't the only attention-grabbing colour. The other finding of the research was that our colour interests change as we gain new experiences. The younger you are, for instance, the more likely you are to enjoy a brighter colour. As you age, you're more likely to take on darker colors as your favorites; younger women, according to the researchers, tend to enjoy purples and reds, while younger men may lean toward green or yellow-green. The studies showed that dark yellowish-brown was the world's least liked colour.    To simply put, the things we enjoy most in our lives will drive our colour preferences.8、What does the underlined word "It" refer to in paragraph 2?A. People's preference for a colour. B. A subject's personality.C. The specific sports team. D. The feature of colors.9What can be learned about blue in paragraph 3?A. Human beings are fully linked to nature.B. Our preference for blue is longstanding.C. It's a coincidence that blue is our favourite.D. Blue is not necessarily linked to our experiences.10、What was the second finding of the research?A. We may prefer brighter colors as we age.B. Our colour preferences may shift over time.C.Colour preferences change our view of the world.D. We tend to stick with just one colour in our lives.11Which of the following would be the best title?A. Blue Is Probably Your Top Choice of ColorB. Studies on Color and Their FindingsC.Colour Preferences Shaped by Your ExperiencesD. Women of Different Ages Prefer Different Colors    In the recently opened Our Broken Planet exhibition in London's Natural History Museum, a small piece of dark material covered with faint holes is on show in a display container. The nodule(小塊) could easily be mistaken for coal, but its true nature is much more interesting.    The nodule is a combination of metals and oceanographers have discovered trillions of them on Earth's ocean floors. Each is rich in some of the most important elements for making the electric cars, wind turbines and solar panels that we need to replace the carbon-emitting motors, power plants and factories now damaging our climate.    These nodules could therefore help humanity save itself from the ill effects of global warming, argue mining companies who say their exploitation should be rated an international priority. By mining up chunks() from the deep we can slow the burning of our planet's surface.    "We desperately need substantial amounts of metals contained by these nodules to build electric cars and power plants," says Hans Smit, chief executive of Florida's Oceans Minerals, which has announced plans to mine for nodules. "We cannot increase land supplies of these metals without having a significant environmental impact. It's our only alternative."    Other researchers disagree, however. They say mining deep-sea nodules would be disastrous for our already stressed, plastic-ridden, overheated oceans. Delicate, long-living residents of the deep—shells, fish, corals and squids—would be erased by mining. At the same time, mud with poisonous metals would be sent upwards to disturb marine food-chains.    "It is hard to imagine how seabed mines could workably operate without destroying the ocean species," says UK marine biologist Helen Scales, a view shared by David Attenborough, who has called for a pause on all deep-sea mining plans. "In this case it means the destruction of an ecosystem, an issue worth the best attention from every entity(實體) involved." he says.    For better or worse, these mineral nodules are going to play a critical role in determining our future—either by releasing us from our current ecological headaches or by stimulating even more fatal outcomes.12、What is the nodule on display?A. An attractive artificial artwork. B. A difficult-to-tell chunk of coal.C. An oceanic piece rich in metals. D. A container for electric materials.13What does "our only alternative" underlined in paragraph 4 refer to?A. Metals for power plants. B. Land supplies of metals.C. Massive production of electric cars. D. Underwater mining for specific metals.14、Which word best describes David's attitude to deep-sea nodule exploitation?A. Disapproving. B. Skeptical. C.Objective. D. Conservative.15Why do the mineral nodules play an important role in determining our future?A. They can be used both for good and for bad.B. Their exploitation can bring opposing effects.C. They contain beneficial and harmful elements.D. Their exploiters cannot reach agreement till now.二、七選五16、Why You Shouldn't Exercise to Lose Weight    Many of us are starting (or restarting) exercise in hopes of losing unwanted pounds. _____. But if the main idea is to lose weight, your New Year's resolution could be very well backfire.    Sometimes exercise fails to meet our weight-loss expectations. _____. In a study, of 30 overweight people who participated in a 12-week exercise program and were interviewed afterward, this response was typical: "It was quite disappointing that I didn't lose a single pound."    Perhaps the biggest problem with exercising to drop pounds is that it turns physical activity into punishment—a price we have to pay for a slimmer body. How many times have you heard someone say (or said yourself) "I'll do extra exercise" after eating too much during the holidays or at a celebratory dinner? We treat exercise as a form of self-punishment for being "bad" in the past. _____    The takeaway is that we see exercise positively and actually do it when we focus on our well-being rather than our weight. ④_____ Others may find exercise makes them feel physically and mentally stronger. The benefits of physical activity are well beyond these aspects. It can help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, colds, etc. It can also improve sleep, make you energetic, and prevent aging. What's more, exercise can prevent weight gain and improve your appearance.     _____. It's perhaps the most important thing you can do for your health. But to improve the chances of success, focus on how movement helps you feel better physically and emotionally—and forget about how it moves the needle on the scale.A. Aiming to be more active is good.B. So by all means, try to exercise regularly..And we often sour on it and stop working out.D.Therefore, it's not very helpful for melting away pounds.E. As a consequence, we're unlikely to enjoy it or to keep doing it.F. For some, the motivation may be an improved mood or less stress.G. For starters, exercise, at least the kind most of us do, is typically ineffective for weight loss.三、完形填空(20空)The Art of HealingThe sea fires our imagination and rekindles our spirit.Wyland    It was Christmas Day 1984, and I began painting my first Whaling Wall in Hawaii.
