C 18. C 19. A 20. C
Good evening everyone. This is Mike. Tonight, I’d like to address myself to parents who are planning to send their children to university, but who might be concerned about the cost. There’s no doubt that university education is of great value. Not only will your children learn and grow, but according to the Department of Skills figures, on average someone with higher education earns 50% more in a lifetime than someone without. But in the last decade or so, the cost of getting a degree has more than doubled, and it looks as if things are going to get worse. University fees are rising steadily. If you thought funding a university education was beyond your reach, think again. University education can offer your children the opportunity of a lifetime.
If you’re a new parent, remember that the earlier you start saving, the less you have to pay every month and the greater your return. The National Union of Students evaluates that the average undergraduate needs about £25,000 to finance three years at university. Based on these figures, it is projected that when someone is at university in 20 years’ time, the cost will be approximately £40,000. But students can always get some kinds of part-time jobs during university years. Parents can save money by encouraging their children to study locally and live at home. Almost 80% of the costs students have to meet are living expenses.

Memo
To: All Staff
From: Jakie Mok, Secretary; Sports Development Committee
Date: May 20, 2022
A week ago, “Sports for Life” program was sent to the parents, requiring them to select a sport they wanted their child to play. Since then, our staff have received lots of calls from parents asking for more information about it. Here is a memo (備忘錄) for your reference when you answer the phones.
Sports 1: Basketball
We expect that this will be the most popular of the four sports. Therefore, students should be advised to sign up as soon as possible. Students will take a private bus to and from Kwun Tong Sports Park. To cover the cost of hiring a bus, each student will have to pay $10 each time. There will be four basketball courts available for our use with one teacher watching over each game.
Sports 2: Gym
We will be using St. Peter’s Memorial Park. There are two reasons for choosing this park. First, it is not very busy and crowded before 6:00 pm. Second, it has lots of trees with plenty of shade. Students must bring along two bottles of water to prevent thirst. Three activities, skipping, jogging, outdoor aerobics (有氧運動), all of which are free of charge, will be arranged. And there will be a teacher on duty for each of the activities.
Sports 3: Hiking
Hiking will take place at Kowloon Peak. The activity will start at 2: 30 pm and finish 90 minutes later. Three teachers will accompany the students, and a hiking instructor will accompany each group of 15 hikers. Each instructor will cost $75/hr. Students are advised to bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
Sports 4: Swimming
The Kowloon City Aquatic Centre is a 10-minute walk from our school. Four teachers will go to the pool and conduct the goings-on from the poolside. We will only be able to reserve the pool for one hour (i.e. 2:45 pm to 3:45 pm.) Only students skillful at swimming can take up this activity. The pool will have two lifeguards present. Girls must wear a swimming suit. The cost is $10 per visit.
21. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Students selecting basketball had better sign up early.
B. Students participating in gym should arrive at 6:00 pm.
C. Hiking usually begins at 2:30 pm and lasts 2 hours.
D. Students having swimming suits can take up swimming.
22. It can be concluded that _______.
A. each sport will take only one hour
B. students will be charged for the four sports
C. all the sports will take place at Kowloon Peak
D. teachers will accompany students on each sport
23. The purpose of the memo is to________.

On Saturday night, a five-person team of the Chinese e-sports club, with the full name EDward Gaming, won the 2021 League of Legends World Championship in Reykjavik , Iceland , beating defending champion Damwon KIA (DK) from South Korea. The live streaming of the championship had over 200 million viewers on two major domestic smartphone apps and other channels.
The team has taken the opportunity to share Chinese culture with the world. At the beginning of the championship, the members of EDG and other staff displayed tai chi, martial arts and traditional Chinese costumes in Reykjavik, launching a “Chinese hurricane” in the Icelandic capital. Now the posting of photos and videos on social networks have spread that hurricane to the whole world.
With the popularity of digital technology, new forms of cultural exchanges have been appearing, of which e-sports are of the hottest. Unlike texts and videos, e-sports go beyond the barriers of language and are understandable around the world.
Also e-sports appeal most to those in their early 20s, as shown by the carnival of college students on Saturday night. That in turn makes them a good bridge of communication between Chinese youngsters and their counterparts (同行) around the world. More importantly, the e-sports industry is sustainable (可持續(xù)的) in spreading Chinese culture, as the large audiences mean huge commercial potential. In 2020 alone, the sales profit of the domestic e-sports industry went beyond $ 43.56 billion, and involved 280,000 companies, which in tum created over 10 million jobs.
As early as 2019, Hainan province announced its ambitious plan of building an international e-sports center. On Nov 5, the Organizing Committee of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou city, announced it had listed eight e-sports as events in the Games. Both show the strong policy support being given to e-sports.
With more Chinese star gaming clubs and teams appearing, the industry is expected to boom and continue spreading Chinese culture to the world.
28. What can we know from the news report?
A. E-sports play a significant role in bridging cultures between nations.
B. The number of the viewers around the world reached over 200 million.
C. There was a severe hurricane in Reykjavik, Iceland on Saturday night.
D. EDward Gaming has won the LoL World Championship twice on end.
29. What do the numbers in Paragraph 4 indicate?
A. E-sports appealed to people of all ages.
B. 2020 witnessed a turning point of e-sports.
C. E-sports gave birth to many new companies.
D. E-sports boosted economic development.
30. What can we infer from the last but one paragraph?

C. E-sports received official support from the authorities.
D. E-sports were first listed as events in the Asian Games.

根據第二段“The team has taken the opportunity to share Chinese culture with the world (該團隊借此機會與世界分享中國文化)”以及最后一段“With more Chinese star gaming clubs and teams appearing, the industry is expected to boom and continue spreading Chinese culture to the world(隨著更多中國明星游戲俱樂部和團隊的出現(xiàn),該行業(yè)有望蓬勃發(fā)展,并繼續(xù)向世界傳播中國文化)”可知,中國電子競技俱樂部分享中國文化,隨著電競行業(yè)的蓬勃發(fā)展,中國文化會繼續(xù)向世界傳播,可見,電子競技在溝通各國文化方面發(fā)揮著重要作用。因此,從新聞報道中我們能了解到A項“E-sports play a significant role in bridging cultures between nations.(電子競技在溝通各國文化方面發(fā)揮著重要作用)”符合題意,故選A項。
通讀第四段,尤其是“In 2020 alone, the sales profit of the domestic e-sports industry went beyond $ 43.56 billion, and involved 280,000 companies, which in tum created over 10 million jobs.(僅在2020年,國內電子競技產業(yè)的銷售利潤就超過435.6億美元,涉及28萬家公司,創(chuàng)造了1000多萬個就業(yè)崗位)”可知,電子競技產業(yè)產生了巨大的商業(yè)價值,促進了經濟的發(fā)展。
根據倒數(shù)第二段“As early as 2019, Hainan province announced its ambitious plan of building an international e-sports center. On Nov 5, the Organizing Committee of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou city, announced it had listed eight e-sports as events in the Games.
通讀全文,尤其是最后一段 “With more Chinese star gaming clubs and teams appearing, the industry is expected to boom and continue spreading Chinese culture to the world.(隨著更多中國明星游戲俱樂部和團隊的出現(xiàn),該行業(yè)有望蓬勃發(fā)展,并繼續(xù)向世界傳播中國文化)”可知,作者認為,電子競技有望蓬勃發(fā)展。

Would you BET on the future of this man? He is 53 years old. Most of his adult life has been a losing struggle against debt and misfortune. A war injury has made his left hand stop functioning, and he has often been in prison. Driven by heaven-knows-what motives, he determines to write a book.
The book turns out to be one that has appealed to the world for more than 350 years. That former prisoner was Cervantes, and the book was Don Quixote (《堂吉訶德》). And the story poses an interesting question: why do some people discover new vitality and creativity to the end of their days, while others go to seed long before?
We’ve all known people who run out of steam before they reach life’s halfway mark. I’m not talking about those who fail to get to the top. We can’t all get there. I’m talking about people who have stopped learning on growing because they have adopted the fixed attitudes and opinions that all too often come with passing years.
Most of us, in fact, progressively narrow the variety of our lives. We succeed in our field of specialization and then become trapped in it. Nothing surprises us. We lose our sense of wonder. But, if we are willing to learn, the opportunities are everywhere.
The things we learn in maturity seldom involve information and skills. We learn to bear with the things we can’t change. We learn to avoid self-pity. We learn that however much we try to please, some people are never going to love us — an idea that troubles at first but is eventually relaxing.
With high motivation and enthusiasm, we can keep on learning. Then we will know how important it is to have meaning in our life. However, we can achieve meaning only if we have made a commitment to something larger than our own little egos (自我), whether to loved ones, to fellow humans, to work, or to some moral concept.
Many of us equate (視……等同于) “commitment” with such “caring” occupations as teaching and nursing. But doing any ordinary job as well as one can is in itself an admirable commitment. People who work toward such excellence — whether they are driving a truck, or running a store — make the world better just by being the kind of people they are. They’ve learned life’s most valuable lesson.

It was/will be+時間段+before...“過了……才……”是固定句型,符合句意。故將after改為before。

故將about改為for。
故去掉it。
故將what改為how。
