Did yu knw that sme peple dn’t d their reading assignments? It’s shcking, but it’s true. Sme students dn’t even read shrt texts that they are assigned (布置) in class. There are many reasns fr this. They may be distracted r bred. They may be unwilling t fcus. They may be uncnfident readers. Whatever the reasn, it has t stp tday. Here’s why.
Reading stimulates (刺激) yur mind. It is like a wrkut fr yur brain. When peple are ld, their muscles begin t get weaker and their strength leaves them. Exercise can prevent this lss. Yu can benefit frm reading in the near-term t. Reading prvides knwledge. Knwledge is pwer. Therefre, reading can make yu a mre pwerful persn. Yu can learn t d new things by reading. D yu want t make vide games? D yu want t design clthing? Reading can teach yu all this and mre. But yu have t get gd at reading, and the nly way t get gd at smething is t practice.
Read everything that yu can at schl, regardless f whether yu find it interesting. Reading expands yur vcabulary. Even a “bring” text can teach yu new wrds. Having a larger vcabulary will help yu better express yurself. Yu will be able t speak, write, and think mre intelligently. What’s bring abut that?
D nt just discunt pay attentin t a text because it is unfamiliar (不熟悉的) t yu. Each time yu read, yu are expsed t new ideas and perspectives (視角). Reading can change the way that yu understand the wrld. It can give yu a wider perspective n things. It can make yu wrldlier. Yu can learn hw peple live in far away places. Yu can learn abut cultures different frm yur wn.
Reading is gd fr yur state f mind. It has a calming effect. It can lwer yur stress levels and help yu relax. Yu can escape frm yur trubles fr a mment when yu read, and it’s a psitive escape. S d yurself a favr: the next time yu get a reading assignment, take as much as yu can frm it. Squeeze it fr every drp f knwledge that it has. Then mve n t the next ne.
27. The writer advises yu t read everything at schl because ______.

Did yu knw that humans aren’t the nly species (物種) that use language? Bees cmmunicate by dancing. Whales talk t each ther by singing. And sme apes talk t humans by using American Sign Language.
A female grilla, Kk, was brn at the San Francisc Z n July 4th, 1971. Kk learned sign language frm her trainer, Dr. Penny Pattersn. Pattersn began teaching sign language t Kk in 1972, when Kk was ne year ld. Kk must have been a gd student, because tw years later she mved nt the Stanfrd University campus with Dr. Pattersn. Kk cntinued t learn n the campus until 1976. That’s when she began living full-time with Pattersn’s grup, the Grilla Fundatin. Pattersn and Kk’s relatinship has blssmed ever since.
Dr. Pattersn says that Kk has mastered sign language and knwn ver 1,000 wrds, and that Kk makes up new wrds. Fr example, Kk didn’t knw the sign fr ring, s she signed the wrds finger and bracelet. Dr. Pattersn thinks that this shws meaningful and cnstructive use f language.
Nt everyne agrees with Dr. Pattersn. Sme argue that apes like Kk d nt understand the meaning f what they are ding. Sme peple wh dn’t believe that say that these apes are just perfrming cmplex tricks(戲法). Fr example, if Kk pints t an apple and signs red r apple, Dr. Pattersn will give her an apple. The debate is unreslved, but ne thing is fr certain: Kk is an extrardinary ape.

When she was asked if her findings culd be duplicated by anther grup f scientists, she said, “We dn’t think that it wuld be ethical (道德的) t d again.” She went n t argue that animals shuld nt be kept in such unnatural circumstances.
As fr the future, Dr. Pattersn and the Grilla Fundatin wuld lve t get Kk t an ape preserve (保護區(qū)) in Maui, but they are having truble getting the land. S unless yu have a few millin dllars t spare, Kk’s ging t be spending her time in Wdland, Califrnia with Dr. Pattersn. Kk prbably desn’t mind that. If she mved t Hawaii, she’d have t give up her Facebk page and Twitter feed, and she’s gt like 50 thusand “l(fā)ikes”. Sme may deny (否認) that she knws sign language, but nbdy says that she desn’t knw scial netwrking.
30. What is the writer’s main purpse in writing the secnd paragraph?
A. T describe the envirnment in which Kk lives.
B. T tell readers hw Dr. Pattersn develped Kk’s living skills.
C. T advise Pattersn t free Kk after she learnt n the campus.
D. T make an intrductin abut Kk and Dr. Pattersn’s backgrund.
31. What d we knw frm the passage?
A. Kk has mastered sign language withut a dubt.
B. Everybdy likes hw Dr. Pattersn has raised Kk.
C. Sme peple think that Kk nly signs t get fd.
D. The Grilla Fundatin has gt a land fr Kk t stay naturally.
32. What des the underlined wrd duplicated in Paragraph 5 prbably mean?
A. T disagree with smene. B. T fl them.
C. T cpy smething. D. T be disprven thrugh debate.
33. Which may be the main idea f this passage?
A. Bees, whales, and apes like Kk all use language t cmmunicate.
B. Kk uses sign language but sme think it’s just a trick.
C. It is natural fr grillas t learn sign language like humans.
D. If yu want a lt f “l(fā)ikes” n Facebk, get a talking grilla.

Based n experience at hme and abrad, they checked and adjusted 40 t 50 items t ensure that the space statin culd transmit valid parameters (參數(shù)) t the grund during subsequent unmanned missins.
