About 70% of my classmates think our parents should not accompany us at school because it makes us fall into the habit of dependence, so that we won’t form the good habit of studying. What’s more, it is harmful for us to form the habit of controlling ourselves. In the meanwhile, it affects our parents’ work and rest.
About 30% of my classmates think it is necessary because on the one hand, it can allow us to have more time to spend on our studies. On the other hand, our parents can help us set up our aims, urge us to finish our tasks, encourage us to overcome difficulties and get us into the good habit of studying. Besides, we shall be healthier owing to their care.
As for me, I prefer the former.

The first thing my wife, Peg, said when I retired was “Good news! Now you’ll have time to clean the garage!” Not exactly good news-it was the one task I’d been putting off. Inside the garage had been gaps so big you could see all the way down to the ground and all the junk that had piled up since I’d started my job.
I’d earned a job as a news director, a position where I could use my skills. I threw my whole into it and put aside all the family trifles. I’d even worked my way up to head of the office. And after 30 years’ service, I knew it was time to retire. But after decades of long hours and strict deadlines, now what?
This dusty garage didn’t seem like much compared to the marble halls of the office building. Sure, I would have more time to spend with my family, but I worried I’d lose the sense of purpose and identity I had felt in my job.
I picked my way past coolers, snow shovels and folded canvas. Here I was puttering (磨蹭), of all things. I pulled on work gloves, then removed a box of motor oil out of the way, intending to empty some shelves when my hand hit something hard. What could that be?
“Just a dusty tin of seeds.” I sighed. “Huh, maybe older than me.”
I grabbed a plastic tray and pushed them into the soil. “What are my chances?” I asked an experienced gardener. “Not very good,” he said. I told Peg with a sigh, wanting to get rid of the tray, but something made me hesitate.
One morning, a sprig of green accidentally came into my view. Was it just grass? A weed? Or could it be...? I found myself checking first thing every morning, until one day I saw leaves unfurled. I proudly showed off the broad, healthy leaves to Peg and our grandchildren. “I just feel it even something this old can still come up. Pretty cool, right? Just like your papal!”
24. Why did the author put off cleaning the garage?
A. The garage was not in use. B. He was lazy with cleaning.
C. The garage was full of wastes. D. He was occupied in his work.
25. How did the author feel about his retirement at first?
A. He felt a sense of loss. B. He was worried about housework.
C. He felt freed from burdens. D. He was hopeful about the future life.
26. What does the underlined word “something” in paragraph 6 mean?
A. The experience of planting seeds.
B. The ability to take care of the seeds.
C. The words from the gardener about chances.
D. The expectation for the coming up of the seeds.
【答案】 DA D

24. 細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)文章第一段“Not exactly good news-it was the one task I’d been putting off. Inside the garage had been gaps so big you could see all the way down to the ground and all the junk that had piled up since I’d started my job.( 這可不是什么好消息——這是我一直在拖延的一項任務(wù)。車庫里有個很大的缺口,你可以看到一直到地面,還有我工作以來堆積起來的所有垃圾。)”和文章第二段“I’d earned a job as a news director, a position where I could use my skills. I threw my whole into it and put aside all the family trifles.(我得到了一份新聞總監(jiān)的工作,在這個職位上我可以發(fā)揮我的技能。我把我的一切都投入其中,把所有的家庭瑣事都拋到了一邊。)”可知,作者把打掃車庫的事推遲了,因為他忙于工作。故選D。

C
The French author Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin once wrote, “Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.” Put more simply, this means “You are what you eat.” Most people today relate this saying to healthy eating. However, Brillat-savarin was actually referring to our personality, character, and culture.
Certainly, in many ways this seems to be true. Chinese cuisine is a case in point. Prior to coining to China, my only experience with Chinese cooking was in America, with Chinese food that had been changed to suit American tastes. For example, America’s most popular Chinese dish is General Tso’s chicken, which consists of fried chicken covered in a sweet sauce, favoured with hot red peppers. This is probably not an authentic Chinese recipe, however, so it cannot tell us much about the Chinese. On the other hand, it does tell us a lot about Americans. It tells us, for example, that Americans love bold (敢于冒險的), simple favours.
Later, I had a chance to experience authentic Chinese food by coming to China. When my family and I had just arrived in Shandong Province in the eastern part of North China, we went looking for a good place to eat. My favourite dish there was boiled dumplings served with vinegar. I observed that family is important to the people there. It has become a favourite traditional dish of the people in North China, where making dumplings has always been a family affair with everyone—from the youngest to the oldest—joining in to help. Later, I leamt that the most famous food in Shandong is pancake mils stuffed with sliced Chinese green onions.
Our travels then took us to South China, and then on to central China. In each place we went, we experienced wonderful local dishes, from Guangdong’s elegant dim sum—small servings of food in bamboo steamers—to the exceptional stewed noodles in Henan. Everywhere, the food was as varied as the people. However, one thing is always true: Through food, Chinese people everywhere show friendship and kindness.
At a minimum, the kinds of food local people consume tell us what they grow in their region, what kinds of lives they lead, and what they like and do not like. Could we also say, for example, that those who like bold flavours are bold themselves? Or, that those who like spicy food tend to have a hot temper? Maybe. Maybe not. What we can say, however, is that culture and cuisine go hand in hand, and if you do not experience one, you can never really know the other.
27. Why does the author mention “you are what you eat” in Paragraph 1?
A. To introduce the theme of the article.
B. To persuade people to eat healthy food.
C. To show the impact of food on health.
D. To prove culture has little to do with cuisine.
28. What does the author find from eating dumplings in Shandong?
A. Dumplings have to be eaten with vinegar.
B. Dumplings are the most popular in Shandong.
C. Everyone in Shandong can make dumplings.
D. Making dumplings is a family gathering.
29. What does the author find different people in China have in common?
A. They are all particular about food.
B. They are all good at making food.
C. They all show friendship and kindness.
D. They are all proud of their food and culture.
30. What is the author’s opinion about culture and cuisine?
A. Cuisine has nothing to do with culture.
B. The foods a person eats can reflect his personality vividly.
C. Culture and cuisine are closely related to each other.
D. Cuisine only shows what people grow or raise in their region.
【答案】A DCC

【答案】
Dear Mr. Brown,
???????I’m Li Hua, one of your Chinese students. Thank you very much for recommending some English novels to me last semester. I think these novels are very interesting and meaningful. After reading these novels, I have a deep feeling about them. Especially after reading the novel Pride and Prejudice created by British female novelist Jane Austen, I think a marriage can’t only have love or material, but should be considered comprehensively. Only when both aspects are considered can we really get happiness. Extensive reading can broaden our horizons. The knowledge in books is all inclusive. Reading can enrich knowledge and broaden vision. If we read more books, we will naturally know more. When we are frustrated or need help, reading will make us feel good. Thank you again for recommending these English novels to me. At the same time, I also hope to get your further guidance.
Yours,
Li Hua

閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)所給情節(jié)進(jìn)行續(xù)寫,使之構(gòu)成一個完整的故事。
I lived in a small but tidy house with my Mom. She ran a small shop at a?market and collected old clothes and some other things to sell for the money we needed. Once during elementary school, it was a field day, and my mom came. I was so embarrassed and wondered how could she do this to me?I threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school, my schoolmates asked me, "your mom only has one eye?!" and?laughed?at me.
I was so angry with my mom and wished that she would just disappear from this world. So I said to my mom, "Why don't you have the other eye?! If you're only gonna make me laughed at!" My Mom did not respond. I guess I felt a little bad, but at the same time, I felt so good to have had said what I wanted to say. Maybe it was because my mom hadn't punished me, I didn't think that I had hurt her feelings very badly.
For the words I had said to her earlier, there was something hurting me in the corner of my heart. Even so, I hated my one-eyed mom and our extreme poverty. I told myself that I would become successful in the near future, so I studied very hard. Later I got accepted by the Seoul University, I left my mother and came to Seoul to study. Then I got married there.
I bought a house of my own. Then I had kids, too. Now I am living happily as a successful man. I enjoy the life in Seoul because it's a place that doesn't remind me of my mom and my past. This kind of happiness was getting bigger and bigger, until one day someone knocked at my door. It was my mom! And still with her one eye! It felt as if the whole sky was falling apart on me. My little girl ran away, scared of my mom's eye.
I screamed at her, "Who are you? I don't know you! How dare you come to my house and scare my daughter!" To this, my mom quietly answered, "Oh, I'm so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address," and she disappeared out of sight.

?Several months later, I received a letter from my Mom. In the letter, my mom recalled my past many years ago. We were so poor that we could only live in a small shop. In order to support my study, my mother worked day and night regardless of her health. As a result, she had only one eye left! But she was still working because her only goal was to make me a successful man! Now I am out of poverty, while I am away from my mother, who love me the most. Regretful and ashamed, I burst out crying.
???????“What’s wrong with you, Daddy?” My daughter asked me. I couldn't help sobbing and said to my little girl, “Daddy did something wrong. I was afraid of being laughed at so I had hurt my mom's feelings. ” Hearing my words, my daughter hugged me tightly and comforted me, “Don't worry, daddy. If you say sorry to your mom, she will forgive you.” Yes, I wanted to apologize to my mom for what I had done. This time I promise I won't hurt her feelings.
