In ur bdy everything is imprtant t ur health n matter hw small it is. There’s a small fatty thymus(胸腺), an rgan lcated in ur upper chest, just behind the breastbne. This rgan is ften said t be a ‘waste’ in adulthd. Hwever, a review study suggests the thymus is nt nearly as useless as experts nce thught.
In childhd, the thymus is knwn t play a critical rle in develping the immune(免疫的) system. When the thymus is remved at a yung age, patients shw lng-term reductins in T-cells, which are a type f white bld cell that fights against germs(細菌) and disease. Kids withut a thymus als tend t have a damaged immune respnse t vaccines.
By the time a persn hits adlescence, the thymus shrivels up and prduces far fewer T-cells fr the bdy. It can seemingly be remved withut immediate harm, and because it sits in frnt f the heart, it is ften taken ut during heart surgery. Fr sme patients with thymus cancer r autimmune diseases, they need surgery t remve the thymus. But the thymus isn’t always a prblem.
Using patient data frm a state healthcare system, researchers in Bstn cmpared the utcmes f patients wh had undergne heart surgery: mre than 6,000 peple (the cntrl grup) wh did nt have their thymus remved and 1,146 peple wh did have their thymus remved. Thse wh underwent a thymus remval were almst twice as likely, as cntrls t die within 5 years, even after accunting fr sex, age and race. Patients wh had their thymus remved were als twice as likely t develp cancer within 5 years f surgery.
Why these assciatins exist is unknwn, but researchers suspect a lack f thymus is smehw messing with the healthy functin f the adult immune system. “Tgether, these findings supprt a rle fr the thymus cntributing t new T-cell prductin in adulthd and t adult health,” the authrs cnclude. Their results, they say, strngly suggest that the thymus plays a functinally imprtant rle in ur cntinued health.
32. Why is the thymus imprtant in childhd?
A. It results in bld.B. It repairs immune functins.
C. It damages immune system.D. It makes T-cells.
33. Which is TRUE accrding t the article?
A. When the thymus is remved at a yung age, it wn’t affect T-cells.
B. The functin f the thymus is prducing bld.
C. Remving the thymus desn’t result in any prblems.
D. The thymus is a crucial rgan in ur bdy.
34. What’s the purpse f paragraph 4?
A. t analyse data.B. T reach a cnclusin.
C. T prvide evidence.D. T illustrate the purpse.
35. Which statement will the authr prbably agree with?

B. Preserving the thymus benefits adult health.
C. Heart patients shuld have the thymus maintained.

由上文“S make sure t chse a place that yu feel cmfrtable with.(所以一定要選擇一個你覺得舒服的地方)”可知,這里指出在旅行時選擇一個你覺得舒服的地方,空處承接上文,具體介紹了讓你舒服的地方,B項“It culd als be smewhere far frm yur hme(它也可能在離你家很遠的地方)”符合語境,和上文“It culd be smewhere clse t hme(可能在離家很近的地方。)”

由上文“Yur family and friends lve yu and prbably wrry abut yu every day. What if yu are travelling alne fr a lng time withut keeping in tuch with them? 可知,這里提出問題:如果你獨自旅行很長一段時間而沒有和家人朋友保持聯(lián)系怎么辦,空處應(yīng)該對此進行回答,所以D項“S text them and let them knw what yu’re up t thrughut yur trip.(所以,給他們發(fā)短信,讓他們知道你在整個旅行中都在做什么)”符合語境,和上文構(gòu)成一問一答。

故填but。
根據(jù)時間狀語 “in the Tang and Sng Dynasties” 可知,此處描述的是過去發(fā)生的事情,應(yīng)用一般過去時,“develp”的過去式是 “develped”。
故填made。
故填including。
故填a。
“that the lg f Beijing's bid t hst the 2008 Olympics...” 故填 it。
根據(jù)語境可知,“the lg”與 “base”之間是被動關(guān)系,且事情發(fā)生在過去,所以用一般過去時的被動語態(tài) “was/were + 過去分詞”,“l(fā)g” 是單數(shù),所以用 “was based”。故填was based。
癬___ peple like mst abut Chinese knts”是主語從句,從句中缺少賓語,指物,所以用 “what”引導。故填what。
