“Girls are weak, and bys are strng. This is what is being subcnsciusly cmmunicated t hundreds f
millins f yung bys and girls all ver the wrld, just like it was with me,” said American actr Justin Baldni.
As a by, all he wanted was t live up t the scial standard and get recgnitin, which meant he had t pretend t
be strng when he was weak, cnfident when he felt insecure, and tugh when he was actually hurting.
Is that a healthy lifestyle? A member f the United States Cngress might say “yes”. In his prpsal, he spke
f a need t “prevent the feminizatin (女性化) f male yuths”. In respnse t his call, the US Department f
Educatin has recently demanded that schls shuld hire mre physical educatin teachers t cultivate masculinity
in students. The respnse has been widely debated nline, with many peple saying that it strengthens gender
steretypes (刻板印象). A pst n the Facebk said, “Educatin is nt simply abut cultivating men and wmen.
It’s mre imprtant t develp a willingness t take respnsibility.”
Yu might be wndering nw: What is masculinity, and why is this s cntrversial? Well, by itself,
“masculinity”, which is ften assciated with strength, curage, cnfidence, and emtinal cntrl, refers t the
qualities traditinally cnsidered t be typical f men. Smetimes, hwever, these seemingly admirable qualities
can be extended in unrealistic ways. Blindly asking bys t cntrl their feelings “l(fā)ike a man” can nly increase
their stress when they grw up.
Attaching mre imprtance t physical educatin wuld definitely benefit students, prviding physical fitness
and lifelng skills. Hwever, putting the emphasis n masculinity is far frm a sund reasn fr which t d s. It
is unnecessary fr all bys t build up their muscles, but it is essential that they all learn hw t be strng inside. It
is als fine fr bys t cry and t shw their weakness. Schls shuld wrk n equipping students with the skills
and values they will need t be successful in life, nt strengthening steretypes f masculinity brrwed frm a
bygne age.

第 5頁/共 16頁

C. T develp manly qualities in students. D. T build up students’ steady strength.

A. It ignres the real cre f educatin. B. It prmtes the develpment f physical educatin.
C. It prevents the feminizatin f male yuths. D. It strengthens the understanding f male images.
11. What des the authr want t say in the article?
A. We shuld d ur part t guarantee students’ physical health.
B. It is time t strengthen tugh qualities f male yuths.

An internatinal team f experts annunced threats frm climate change and habitat lss have utpaced ur

A repsitry t safeguard bilgical samples frm disaster is nt a new idea. The Svalbard glbal seed bank

hwever, has prven that nt even Svalbard is safe frm the effects f wrsening climate. The destructin f
Ukraine’s seed bank in the war with Russia als pses a threat t birepsitries n Earth.
The prpsed lunar birepsitry wuld be a gd chice. The mn’s freezing envirnment means it can
prvide favrable cnditins t preserve the samples year-rund withut the need fr human invlvement r an
energy surce.
“In rder fr clning t be an ptin, ne needs cells that are alive,” said Hagedrn, a prfessr f eclgy and
evlutinary bilgy invlved in the lunar birepsitry. “This means it is nt pssible t clne an animal frm
nly DNA parts, but deextinctin is pssible if tissue samples are cllected and stred in a way that ensures the
cells stay alive.”
Given the csts and challenges invlved, critics may suggest effrts shuld fcus n preserving species befre
they cme extinct. Hwever, Hagedrn made his pint. “When we think linearly, and nt in parallel, we get in
truble. If yu say: I’m ging t d it this way, and it desn’t wrk, what’s plan B? We knw hw t d it and can

d it and will d it, althugh it may take decades t finally achieve.”
With s much f the prpsal still in the area f science fictin, the scientists say they hpe their paper will
generate excitement, new ideas and new internatinal partners — and perhaps a little cntrversy — abut the
extreme actins necessary t prtect bidiversity.
12. What disqualifies the existing repsitry fr cnservatin f bilgical samples?

D. Cntrversial pinins may cause truble with preserving species.

D. T develp a technique t enhance genetic diversity.

The next day, I arrived at the pl grunds early. Peple were already starting t arrive, their faces filled with
anticipatin. The atmsphere was electric with excitement. The lemnade stand was bustling, with peple lining up
t taste ur “Fun in the Sun” special. Tamara’s starfish ckies were a huge hit, disappearing almst as quickly as
they were put ut. Unluckily, cluds started t gather. Befre we knew it, the rain was puring dwn, making it
difficult fr everyne t seek shelter near the pl.
Facing the sudden rain, we were relieved that we had prepared the big umbrellas. Quickly, we set them up
ver the karake machine, lemnade stand, and bake sale tables. Despite the weather, peple didn’t seem t mind.
They huddled under the umbrellas, cntinuing t enjy the activities and supprt ur cause. By the end f the day,
we had made mre mney than we had ever imagined, and everyne left with a smile n their face. It was a
reminder that with preparatin, creativity, and a psitive attitude, even the wrst-case scenaris can turn int
unfrgettable successes.
