The nn-invasive therapy, knwn as transcranial direct current stimulatin (TDCS), is designed t stimulate areas f the brain linked t md regulatin by delivering a painless, weak electrical current thrugh electrdes placed n the scalp (頭皮).
In the trial, Fu and her clleagues trained 120 wmen and 54 men, all f whm had been diagnsed with a majr depressive disrder, t use the TDCS headset and randmly allcated peple t either the treatment r a cntrl grup. Participants in the cntrl grup wre a sham (假的) headset, nly delivering a brief pulse f current at the start f each sessin, imitating the feeling f real TDCS withut prviding the same stimulatin, which can reduce errrs f the experiment significantly.
After 10 weeks, the treatment grup’s scres n a scale that measures depressin symptms drpped by 9.41 pints, whereas the cntrl grup’s scre decreased by 7.14 pints. Nearly 45% f participants with the active TDCS device experienced a reductin in r recvery frm their symptms, cmpared with almst 22% f thse with a sham device.
Althugh these results are encuraging, previus research has suggested that TDCS desn’t wrk fr everyne. The next step shuld be t understand why TDCS wrks fr sme peple but nt thers, and t lk fr ways t persnalize the treatment, he adds. “Different peple need different dsages.”

Finding fulfilment at the end f life is nt that unusual, as it’s pssible t feel happiness alngside sadness, and ther seemingly cnflicting emtins. Simn Bas, wh wrte a candid accunt f living with cancer, passed away n July 15 at the age f 47. It may seem dd that a persn culd be happy as the end draws near, but in my experience as a clinical psychlgist wrking with peple at the end f their lives, it’s nt that uncmmn. There is quite a lt f research suggesting that fear f death is at the uncnscius center f being human. William James, an American philspher, called the knwledge that we must die “the wrm at the cre” f the human cnditin.
But a study in Psychlgical Science shws that peple nearing death use mre psitive language t describe their experience than thse wh just imagine death. This suggests that the experience f dying is mre pleasant — r, at least, less unpleasant — than we might picture it.
In the BBC interview, Bas shared sme f the insights that helped him cme t accept his situatin. He mentined the imprtance f enjying life and priritizing meaningful experiences, suggesting that acknwledging death can enhance ur appreciatin fr life.
Despite the pain and difficulties, Bas seemed cheerful, hping his attitude wuld supprt his wife and parents during the difficult times ahead. Bas’s wrds ech the Rman philspher Seneca wh advised that: “T have lived lng enugh depends neither upn ur years nr upn ur days. but upn ur minds.”
A mre recent thinker expressing similar sentiments is the psychiatrist Viktr Frankl wh laid the grundwrk fr a frm f existential psychtherapy. Its mst recent adaptatin is meaning-centered psychtherapy, which ffers peple with cancer a way t imprve their sense f meaning.
32. Hw did Simn Bas feel as his death was arund the crner?
A. Upset.B. Appreciative.C. Desperate.D. Delighted.
33. What can we learn frm Paragraph 2?
A. Death is the cre in peple’s lives.
B. Everyne hlds fear in their hearts.
C. There are wrms in peple’s hearts.
D. Human beings can find ways t extend life span.
34. What can we learn frm Bas?
A. Ignring death can prmte ur gratitude fr life.
B. It is ur mind that decides hw lng we can live.
C. T have lived lng enugh depends n ur achievements.
D. Our years and days decide wh we are.
35. What des the text mainly talk abut?
