Culd the secret t the perfect cup f tea be hiding undergrund? The cmplex flavrs in a quality cup f tea are ften attributed t the plant’s leaves. But new research suggests that the taste f a quality cup f tea may als depend n the plant’s rts — specifically, the micrbes (微生物) that live there.
Tea breeders (培育員) in China have spent centuries cultivating the perfect cup f tea. But despite mdern breeding technlgies, imprving the taste f tea thrugh genetic selectin alne has prven t be a challenge. But a new study, published in the jurnal Current Bilgy, has shwn that DNA is nt the nly thing that affects the taste f tea.
Previus studies have shwn that micrbes can affect the plant’s ability t take in nutrients frm the sil arund them. And, it turns ut, these nutrients can affect the plant’s prductin f certain chemicals that may affect their taste.
Specifically, the team fund that plants with micrbes that encurage the absrptin f ammnia (氨) prduce mre f a cmpund called theanine (茶氨酸), a key determinant f the tea’s taste. Armed with this knwledge, the team created a synthetic (合成的) micrbial cmmunity, based n thse fund n high-theanine tea varieties. By applying these synthetic clnies t rts f ther tea plants, the team fund that they were able t bst theanine levels in lw-theanine varieties t.
“The initial expectatin fr the synthetic micrbial cmmunity derived frm high quality tea plant rts was t enhance the quality f lw-quality tea plants,” c-authr Wenxin Tang said in a statement. “Hwever, t ur astnishment, we discvered that the synthetic micrbial cmmunity nt nly enhances the quality f lw-quality tea plants but als brings a significant prmting effect n certain high-quality tea varieties. Furthermre, this effect is particularly bvius in lw-nitrgen (氮) sil cnditins.”
These findings suggest that synthetically prduced micrbial cmmunities culd be used t imprve the taste f tea plants, particularly when their surrunding sils lack key plant nutrients. These clnies may als supprt nutrient absrptin in ther plant species, allwing farmers t rely less n synthetic fertilizers.

B. By expsing rts f lw-theanine varieties t mre micrbes.
C. By attaching synthetic clnies t rts f lw-theanine varieties.
D. By creating a synthetic micrbial cmmunity frm ther varieties.
30. What is surprising in terms f functins f synthetic clnies?
A. It will imprve the quality f lw-nitrgen sil.
B. It can enhance the quality f lw-quality tea plants.
C. It plays a big rle in imprving the quality f high-quality tea plants.
D. It helps t imprve the quality f sil by increasing the quantity f nitrgen.

Yu may regard a wave as a cmmn gesture, but what happens when yu wave t yur Eurpean friend acrss the street and she turns t walk the ther way?
It isn't because yur friend is tired f yur cmpany. While mst Americans interpret a wave as a friendly greeting r gdbye, the same mvement is just as likely t express n in parts f Eurpe and Latin America. The same dissnance is true f ther signals: shwing the number tw by hlding up tw fingers with the palm facing inward is inffensive in mst f the wrld, but it's a rude gesture in the United Kingdm and Australia.
The mst cmmn understanding f the subject relates bdy language t spken language. Gestures with specific meanings, while infrmally called “bdy language, belng t the field f kinesics(人體動作學(xué)), an area f study that distinguishes these mvements frm instinctive actins, such as smiling when happy. Develped by Ray Birdwhistell in the 1950s, kinesics uses the building blcks f linguistics t understand hw gestures prduce meaning. As the units f sund that frm spken wrds are called phnemes(音素), the units f mvement that frm kinesic gestures are called kinemes—and, as the same phneme can cmmunicate a different meaning acrss languages, the same kineme can als cmmunicate different meanings in different cultures r cntexts. Fr example, the thumbs-up kineme indicates praise in Nrth America, but it means smething extremely rude in Australia.
There's ne mre mess in understanding nnverbal cmmunicatin, thugh. Althugh bdy language isn't universal, the emtins behind it may be. In a study perfrmed by American researcher Paul Ekman, participants frm the West, insular African cmmunities, and New Guinea were shwn a cllectin f mre than 10,000 images illustrating different facial expressins. When 90 percent f participants regardless f cultural backgrund, identified the same emtins in the phts, Ekman cncluded that there were at least seven universal facial expressins: anger, disgust, fear, surprise, happiness, sadness, and cntempt.
32. What des the underlined wrd in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Cmparisn.B. Disharmny.C. Thery.D. Discmfrt.
33. What is the similarity between bdy and spken language?
A. They can be divided int the field f kinesics tgether.
B. They are based n mvements frm instinctive actins.
C. They cnvey different meanings with the same element.
D. They can unite peple in different cuntries and regins.
34. Hw did Paul Ekman reach his cnclusin?
A. By interviewing participants frm diverse backgrunds.
B. By asking participants t shw many facial expressins.
C. By bserving hw participants reacted t thse images.
D. By judging if participants recgnized the same emtins.
35. What might be discussed in the fllwing text?
A. Other types f facial expressins.B. Applicatins f facial expressins.
C. Drawbacks f Paul Ekman's study.D. Frms f nnverbal cmmunicatin.
【答案】32. B 33. C 34. D 35. B
【語篇解讀】本文是一篇說明文。文章講述語言不是通用,但其背后的情感可能是通用的。
【32題詳解】
