At present, clud-based AI mdels are mstly trained n graphics prcessing units (GPUs) that cnsume s much energy that it can take a nuclear-pwer plant t fuel them. They als need huge amunts f memry and data. All these can cst hundreds f millins f dllars. Even nce they are trained, running these AI mdels is cstly. B. All f them have t be trained n GPUs.
C. It is t expensive t train and run them.
D. They can nly deal with the easiest tasks.
11. What des Neil Shah mst prbably imply?

Cnfirmatin bias refers t peple’s tendency t seek ut infrmatin that supprts their existing beliefs. While it’s usually subcnscius, its impacts are significant. It can clud peple’s judgement and decisin-making prcesses.
One explanatin fr cnfirmatin bias is that it is an efficient way t prcess infrmatin. Humans are cnstantly fed with infrmatin and cannt pssibly take the time t carefully prcess each piece. It is adaptive fr humans t rely n subcnscius, autmatic judgements that cntribute t the efficiency. Anther reasn why peple shw cnfirmatin bias is t prtect their self-wrth. Peple like t feel gd abut themselves, and discvering a belief they highly value is incrrect makes them feel bad abut themselves. Therefre, cnfirmatin bias will encurage
them t disregard the infrmatin cntrary t their belief.
Researches shw that cnfirmatin bias is strng and widespread. In studies examining my-side bias, peple were able t generate and remember mre reasns supprting their side f a cntrversial issue than the ppsing side. Only when a researcher directly asked peple t generate arguments against their wn beliefs were they able t d s. It is nt that peple are incapable f generating arguments that are cntrary t their beliefs, but, rather, peple are nt mtivated t d s.
Cnfirmatin bias als surfaces in interpersnal cmmunicatin. When interacting with peple wh perceivers think have certain persnalities, the perceivers will ask questins that are biased tward supprting the perceivers’ beliefs. If a new rmmate is expected t be friendly and utging, Maria may ask her if she likes t g t parties rather than asking if she ften studies in the library.
Cnfirmatin bias may lead t incmplete and misinterpreted understanding f an issue r tpic, as crucial infrmatin may be verlked r dismissed. Thus, t avid it, peple are suppsed t diversify the surces f infrmatin accessed as seeking multiple perspectives brings a brader understanding f the subject matter and allws fr well-runded decisin-making. Anther way is t actively challenge the bias by questining assumptins and relying n evidence rather than persnal pinins, which helps us cnsciusly recgnize infrmatinal biases and minimize their impact.
12. Why d peple shw cnfirmatin bias?
A. T help maintain their dignity.B. T prevent shallw judgements.
C. T handle cmplex infrmatin.D. T develp their lgical reasning.
13. What did the studies in Paragraph 3 find?
A. Peple culdn’t prduce arguments against their belief.
B. Infrmatin supprting peple’s belief ften wn preference.
C. It tk cnsiderable mtivatin t face cntrversial issues.
D. Peple fcused n infrmatin cncerning the ppsing side.
14. Hw des the writer illustrate cnfirmatin bias in cmmunicatin?
A. By making cmparisn.B. By giving an example.
C. By intrducing a study.D. By defining a cncept.

Last year, as my then-9-year-ld sn, Lepld, and I were preparing fr a mm-sn ski trip t Keystne, I came up with a rule: we wuld say yes t everything. Yu see, Lepld is a picky eater— he lives n chicken nuggets and ygurt— and can be hesitant t try new things.
I was hping t find a way t encurage him withut resrting t wrn-ut saying like“If yu dn’t try it, yu’ ll never knw if yu like it.” S I brrwed the idea f a Yes Day, smething ur family has dne a handful f times since watching the mvie f the same name. Befre the trip, Lepld and I agreed we wuld say yes t everything, including fd and experiences— especially new nes.
We started saying yes befre we even barded ur flight, when we stpped at a breakfast buffet at the airprt. Fr me, that meant I sampled a vegan meatball, while Lepld tried a muse bite f hash brwns he said lked“funny”.
After we gt settled at ur htel, I tk Lepld t meet his skiing instructr. While he was ding his skiing practice, I skied by myself. On the first day, I played it safe and stuck t the lng and winding easy green run. On the secnd day, I challenged myself t ski an intermediate blue run. There was a part steeper than I had thught, but I did my slw, diligentS-turns and I made it dwn in ne piece.
Lepld had taken a few lessns back at hme in Cnnecticut but had never had the pprtunity t ski n a muntain f this size. My hpe was that he wuld make the mst f this pprtunity. S I encuraged him t ride a chairlift(吊椅式纜車) t the tp and then ski dwn. Lepld’s anxiety was evident as we std at the base f the muntain. His eyes widened at the sight f the chairlift, and he clutched my hand tightly.

【答案】“I dn’t want t d this, Mm.” he whispered, his vice trembling. He inched twards the chairlift, white-knuckled during the whle ride, but he didn’t lk back. He reached the tp and prepared t descend, my heart in my thrat. The first few mments were shaky, but with each turn, Lepld grew mre cnfident. The sun cast lng shadws acrss the snw, highlighting his prgress as he navigated the slpe. The nce shaky turns evlved int a graceful ballet with the muntain.
Lepld returned frm his skiing adventure, flushing with excitement. “I did it, Mm!” he exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with pride. As he recunted the exciting plunge dwn the slpe and the refreshing chilly wind against the cheeks, his vice was filled with a newfund cnfidence. I squeezed his hand, shwing I was s prud f him.
