In less than fur years, I became ne f the tp sales peple at my branch and increased persnal sales by 1,700 percent. The success earned me a six-figure incme, prmtin and numerus sales awards.

In general, just abut every mammal (哺乳動(dòng)物) relies n a cmmunity f gut bacteria (腸道細(xì)菌) fr health and survival. Many animals have even develped t the pint that clsely related hst species typically share mre similar gut bacteria. But a new study has identified a cnverse phenmenn n ne grup f mammals — bats. The gut bacteria f clsely related bats can be ttally distinct frm each ther.
T learn abut the relatinships between bats and their gut bacteria, pst-dctral researcher Hlly Lutz and her c-wrkers tk samples f bacteria frm the skin, tngues, and guts f 497 bats frm 31 different species in Kenya and Uganda. They discvered bats have fewer bacterial species living in their guts than in their muths and n their skin. What’s mre, gut bacteria living in different bats are individually distinctive, fllwing n apparent pattern. This struck the scientists as strange, since fr mst ther mammals that have been studied, clsely related hsts share mre similar gut bacteria.
“There’s essentially n relatinship between bats’ gut bacteria and their evlutinary (進(jìn)化) histry,” says Lutz. While hst identity is still an imprtant factr in predicting the species f gut bacteria, this may simply be tied t where thse bats live and what they eat. The fact that bats’ gut bacteria are mre clsely tied t where bats live than where thse bats fall n the bat family tree indicates that develping a special relatinship with just-right gut bacteria may nt have been as imprtant fr bats as it has been fr ther mammals.
Lutz suspects that bats’ unique relatinships with gut bacteria are related t the feature that sets them apart frm ther mammals: their ability t fly. “Bats have extremely shrtened guts,” she explains. “Fd takes just fifteen t thirty minutes t pass thrugh a bat’s digestive system, a third as lng as it wuld take fr a similarly sized animal. That’s likely because a lng, winding digestive canal wuld weigh the bats dwn.”
8. Which is clsest in meaning t the underlined wrd “cnverse” in paragraph 1?
A. Typical.B. Ptential.C. Inspiring.D. Oppsite.
9. What surprised the researchers?
A. Gut bacteria vary with related bats.B. Mammals share similar gut bacteria.
C. There are 497 varieties f bats in Kenya.D. Bats have the mst bacteria in their muths.
10. Why d bats have rather shrtened guts accrding t Lutz?
A. T quicken their fd digestin.B. T make them lighter fr flight.
C. T help imprve their ability t fly.D. T fit in with their digestive system.
11. What’s the main idea f the text?
A. Bats cntain a diverse range f bacteria.
B. Bats dn’t seem t need gut bacteria t evlve.
C. Bacteria play a big rle in bats’ health and survival.
D. Bats dn’t rely n gut bacteria the way ther mammals d.
