Emile and the Field is the stry f a little by wh spends every seasn playing in a field by his huse, whispering t the trees r playing in the leaves.
Kevin Yung, the authr f the bk, riginally wrte Emile and the Field years ag as a bedtime pem fr his sn. Yung’s sn is a teenager nw—and t ld fr bedtime stries—but this pem abut Emile lives n, nw as a children’s bk illustrated by Chima Ebinama, a fine artist living in Greece.
Ebinama wanted t reflect Emile’s lve fr nature, s she used a srt f rmantic palette (調(diào)色板) f pinks, blues and sunny yellws. She hand-painted the illustratins in waterclr.
Fr inspiratin, Ebinama says she drew frm a variety f influences. One scene, where Emile and his father hld hands and walk thrugh the snw-cvered field, reminds us f Snwy Day, Keats’ 1962 children’s bk abut Peter, an African American by wh explres his neighbrhd after the seasn’s first snwfall.
And—as in Snwy Day—Ebinama drew the little by in Emile and the Field as a black child.
