Americans had been chewing gum since 1870, when a New Yrker named Charles Adams began manufacturing it in a Manhattan warehuse. By the 1920s, a handful f 人 cmpanies were making gum frm chicle, a frm f sapdilla tree sap(樹液) that had been chewed in Belize, Guatemala and Mexic fr centuries. Mr Diemer's pink cncctin(調(diào)和物) was stretchier and less sticky than earlier recipes.
Fleer C. tk ver the recipe and called it Dubble Bubble, selling the gum fr a penny apiece. Mr Diemer helped market Dubble Bubble by teaching salesmen t blw bubbles s they culd demnstrate the prduct. Dubble Bubble had n cmpetitin until after Wrld War II, when Tpps C. began wrapping bubble gum in cmics and calling it Bazka.
Mr Diemer, wh had begun wrking fr Fleer after high schl, never received ryalties fr his inventin, said his wife, Flrence Freeman Khler Diemer. Is it easy fr yu t feel scared? Des art make yu cry? D yu feel ther peple's feelings? On the ther hand, d yu tend t be verwhelmed by crwds, bright lights r strng perfume? Bad news--r maybe gd. Yu culd be an HSP, a highly sensitive persn.
Hw can we understand what's happening inside an HSP? The term was cined in 1996 by psychlgist Elaine Arn and she argued that sensitive brains are uniquely tired t prcess their envirnment at a deep level. Her thery's mst striking claim is that physical and emtinal sensitivity are ne and the same. A cmplicated attentin t bdy language strengthens empathy(共鳴); respnsiveness t subtle physical signals creates rich sensatins in HSPs, but can als verwhelm.
In the wrkplace, HSPs are usually the highest perfrmers, yet the first t get tired ut. They can struggle in relatinships, as they tend t be peple-pleasing. The ability t cnnect is f huge value and higher sensitivity is linked with creativity, brilliance and higher IQ. The trait is shared by pineers acrss science, business and the arts--anyne wh ntices details thers dn't, makes cnnectins they can't.
N matter what yu call it, sensitivity is defined as the ability t sense, prcess, and respnd deeply t ne's envirnment. Peple wh are sensitive naturally pick up mre infrmatin frm their envirnment, prcess it mre deeply, and are ultimately mre shaped by it. Much f this deep prcessing happens invluntarily and many sensitive peple aren't even aware that they d it. A better wrd fr sensitive might be respnsive. If yu are a highly sensitive persn, yur bdy and mind respnd mre t the wrld arund yu. Yu respnd mre t heartbreak, pain and lss, but yu als respnd mre t beauty, new ideas and jy. Yu g deep where thers nly skim the surface. Yu keep thinking when thers have given up and mved n t smething else.

B. The term refers t a patient trubled by mental prblems
C. An HSP respnds mre t the negative than t the psitive.

30. What is the writer's attitude twards high sensitivity?
A. Objective. B. Dubtful. C. Disapprving. D. Cncerned.
31. Where des this text prbably cme frm?
A. A medical jurnal. B. A news reprt.
C. A scientific magazine D. A health magazine.

Humpback whales are well knwn fr their fascinating culture: These mysterius animals migrate thusands f miles every year, sing charming sngs, leap frm the water in an enrmus breach, and cllabrate while hunting--creating bubble nets that trap their prey. Nw, researchers have shed light n anther aspect f whale behavir: Playing with kelp(巨藻) they find flating in the cean—mving it between their fins, rlling arund with it, and, mst interestingly, wearing it atp their heads like a hat.
This behavir—called kelping—has been described in a new study as a “glbal phenmenn” . There's n dubt kelping lks fun. But culd it have anther purpse? Olaf Meynecke, research fellw at Griffith University and c-authr f the study, thinks s--especially cnsidering that whales can keep it up fr 30 t 40 minutes.
What's particularly intriguing abut kelping is the way that humpbacks frm different ppulatins—in bth the Nrthern and Suthern Hemispheres—all prefer t wear seaweed n the tp f their heads, says Meynecke. They place kelp n their frehead in ver half the recrded instances Baleen species are believed t like having their heads scratched--gray whales are knwn fr appraching whale watching bats fr a tickle n the nse. Because whales dn't have hands t scratch themselves, like we d, Meynecke suggests "they might seek ut ther tactile sensatins that just feel gd".
Whales might als be treating kelp like a cleansing face mask, as seaweed has antimicrbial qualities that can reduce levels f bacteria. Rubbing kelp acrss their bdies may als remve parasites(寄生物) and shed bacterial and viral grwths t prevent them getting cmpletely vergrwn with sea lice(虱) and skin infectins, says Meynecke.
The study has caught the attentin f researchers glbally, and Meynecke's mailbx has been flded with peple wh have als seen kelping. “Smene frm Tahiti was like, ‘We see it all the time,’ ” he says. Nw the phenmenn has been highlighted glbally, which culd lead t further research int the behavir, its benefits, and even if ther species d it.
32. What can we learn abut humpback whales?

33. What des the underlined wrd “intriguing” in paragraph 3 mean?

35. What might be talked abut next in the article?
