Puffins are the mst cmmn birds n the Westman Islands in Iceland. Different frm mst sea birds, they are able t g under water t 60 meters deep t catch fish. Each spring, they lay eggs in hles n cliffs. 40 days later, they will fly back t the sea, leaving the yung there. Baby puffins wuld spend abut six weeks in the hles alne befre they are ready t fly t the sea.
In the past, yung puffins culd easily find the sea with the help f the mnlight. But nw, bright lights f the city ften make them lse their way. Many f them end up flying int the twn. Hwever, it’s nt an easy thing fr yung puffins t fly up and find fd in the twn, s they may lse their lives there.
That’s why peple n the Westman Islands have decided t help thse yung puffins. In late summer, when yung puffins leave their hles, lcal peple ften g ut t lk fr the missing puffins at night. The AR glasses were develped by Dan Scarfe after he had dinner with his family. The man saw his hearing-impaired grandfather sitting alne in silence while the rest f the family were talking excitedly.
