We grw up with a mixed message: making mistakes is a necessary learning tl, but we shuld avid them. And that's a real shame. Because when we tell kids that learning is all abut the results, we teach them that mistakes are smething t be feared and avided. We stifle(壓制)their interest in experimenting because experimenting means yu're ging t make a mess and fail. And that's t big a risk.
Here's a fascinating experiment that shws hw children absrb what we say abut effrt vs. results. One f prfessr Carl Dweck's experiments asked 400 5th graders in New Yrk City schls t take an easy shrt test, n which almst all perfrmed well. Half the children were praised fr "being really smart". The ther half were cmplimented fr "having wrked really hard". Then the students were asked t take a secnd test and given the ptin f either chsing ne that was pretty simple and that they wuld d well n, r ne that was mre challenging, but n which they might make mistakes. Of thse students praised fr effrt, 90 percent chse the harder test. Of thse praised fr being smart, the majrity chse the easy test. Prfessr Dweck tld me: "One thing I've learned is that kids are exquisitely(敏銳地)familiar t the real message, and the real message is ‘Be smart’. It's nt ‘We lve it when yu struggle r when yu learn and make mistakes.’"
One way we can fix this is by understanding the cncepts f "fixed mindsets" and "grwth mindsets". Thse with fixed mindsets believe either we're gd at smething—whether it's math r music r baseball—r we're nt. When we have this fixed mindset, mistakes serve n purpse but t highlight failure. Thse with grwth mindsets are much mre likely t be able t accept mistakes because they knw that they're part f learning. And it's been shwn that when students are taught abut grwth mindsets, their mtivatin t learn imprves.
28. Why d children ften avid experimenting?
A. They cnsider the prcess time-cnsuming.
B. They prefer easy tasks ver challenging nes.
C. They are nt interested in hands-n activities.
D. They are afraid f making mistakes and failing.
29. What lessn can we learn frm prfessr Carl Dweck's experiment?
A. Praise prmtes children's self-cnfidence.
B. Keep children away frm struggle and mistakes.
C. Praise children fr their devtin instead f their talent.
D. Parents shuld give their children timely encuragement.
30. Where is the text mst prbably taken frm?
A. A guidebk t parenting.
B. A reprt n the art f praise.
C. An intrductin t a psychlgy bk.
D. A review f mdern teaching.

A. Is Making Mistakes a Challenging Prcess?

Samarkand in Uzbekistan hsted an imprtant intergvernmental cnference n hw t stp the slw spread f degraded(退化)land. Between 2015 and 2019, the wrld lst at least 100 millin hectares f healthy and prductive land a year, accrding t an analysis fr the United Natins Cnventin t Cmbat Desertificatin(UNCCD). Human activities—including destrying frests and agricultural practices—and climate change are amng the main causes.
115 cuntries reprted ahead f the meeting n three measures fr restring degraded land and sil: prtecting the area used fr agriculture r cvered by frests r wetlands; increasing the ability f land t supprt and sustain life, retaining abve-and belw-grund stcks f carbn. Reaching the target f "land degradatin neutrality(土地退化中性)" by 2030 means reversing a negative trend: the glbal share f land that is degraded increased frm 14.7% in 2015 t 18. 9% in 2019.
Yet there are sme imprtant signs f hpe amid a mstly bleak prspect. The analysis enables cuntries t understand land degradatin at a mre granular(細(xì)致的)level than befre. And the UNCCD's science teams helped t train researchers in sme f the mst-affected cuntries, s that lcal scientists and plicymakers culd d the wrk themselves. And sme cuntries are mving in the right directin. In Ecuadr, fr example, the area f land classed as degraded went frm 21.9% t 12.8% between 2015 and 2019.
Land degradatin is nt a pririty n the wrld's envirnmental agenda. Althugh the UNCCD has the same status as the UN cnventins n climate change and bidiversity, unlike them it des nt have an autnmus bdy that prvides independent scientific advice. Restratin prjects als receive much less internatinal funding.
This funding gap illustrates just hw little pririty is given t restring land and preventing further cuntries are prviding data. These natins, especially high-incme cuntries, shuld start reprting degradatin. Yet the latest analysis shws what can be dne even with limited resurces. But nt all their plans and actins, t raise the prfile f land degradatin.
32. Which f the measures is mentined befre the cnference?
A. Develping mre frests r wetlands.
B. Increasing industrial prductivity.
C. Making peple supprt their life.
D. Keeping the stcks f carbn.
33. What des the underlined wrd "bleak" mean in paragraph 3?
A. Dark. B. Interesting. C. Wnderful. D. Reasnable.
34. What des paragraph 4 mainly talk abut?
A. The land degradatin is serius nwadays.
B. Land degradatin isn't sufficiently priritized.
C. The bidiversity deserves mre attentin.
D. Mre funds are btained fr the restratin prject.
35. What can rich cuntries d abut the land degradatin?
A. Prvide funding t supprt relevant prjects.
B. Help ther cuntries t cllect and analyze data.
C. Start reprting their wn schedules and actins.
D. Stp land degradatin in their cuntries cmpletely.

Reading bks can expand ur knwledge f the wrld. UNESCO established April 23rd as Wrld Bk and Cpyright Day in 1995. D yu knw its histry? Setting aside a day t celebrate bks traces its beginnings t the Spanish writer Vicente Clavel Andres. In 1922, he prpsed the idea as a way t hnr the authr, Miguel de Cervantes. Fur years later, the first celebratin tk place n Octber 7th, Miguel's birthday, but the later celebratin was mved t April 23rd, the date f his death, in 1930. In 1995, the UNESCO General Cnference decided t shw respect fr authrs and bks wrldwide as a way f encuraging everyne t access bks. Chsing April 23rd seemed a lgical chice. Besides being the date f Miguel's death, it als happens t be the date when William Shakespeare died and sme ther imprtant authrs' birthdays. Annually since 2001, ne city arund the wrld has been chsen t be the UNESCO Wrld Bk Capital fr a year. The selected city will carry ut activities t encurage "a culture f reading and sharing its values in all ages and ppulatin grups in and ut f the natinal brders". A
故選A。
故選A。
115 cuntries reprted ahead f the meeting…retaining abve-and belw-grund stcks f carbn"可知答案選D。
故選A。
故選A。
根據(jù)"an elderly wman n her daily walk behind my hme"可推斷出,伯恩山犬陪伴一位老婦人。故選C。
故選A。
故選A。
由上文"little f which I understd"和下文“just smile and pass"可知,作者起初并不能完全聽懂。故選C。
根據(jù)下文"a deeply rlled ‘R’ and lng ‘O’”可知,此處表示的是"發(fā)音”。故選D。
故選A。
由"as if allwing me t bestw(授予)n him his entitled knighthd"可知,狗把它的頭放在作者手下,表達(dá)一種喜歡之情。故選A。
故填a。
故填is。
63. will have 考查時(shí)態(tài)。
過(guò)去分詞在此用作后置定語(yǔ),相當(dāng)于定語(yǔ)從句that/which are used。
