Luis Braille was brn in France in 1809. Sadly when he was a little by, he had an accident. By the time he was fur years ld, he was cmpletely blind. Hwever, at the age f ten, Luis was lucky enugh t g t ne f the first schls fr blind children in Paris. At this particular schl they had special bks. They were written in rdinary French but the letters raised up ff the page, s that the students culd feel the shape f the wrds and read them. But there were tw prblems with this system. First, the letters were huge and difficult t read. Secnd, the bks were very expensive s the schl library nly had furteen altgether. Luis, wh was very clever and creative, thught f a better way t imprve bks fr blind peple t read.
In 1821, when Luis was twelve years ld, a sldier came t his schl. This man had invented a system fr sldiers t send and receive messages in the dark. Althugh this idea had nt wrked very well, Luis became very excited and began experiments with it. By the time he was fifteen, he had invented a system which used nly six dts.
