My friend Andrew used t drink a lt and always islated (孤立) himself. He was 1 and heartbrken. He felt that his life was a hpeless mess. He even tld me that he was n the pint f 2 hpe. I culdn’t slve his prblems. But during the Christmas seasn tw years ag, I gave him a gift that I didn’t even knw I had.
That Christmas Andrew had n place t g, s I 3 him hme t my parents’ huse in Lndn. My parents were 4 t have him stay with us. They graciusly (殷勤地) cleaned up ur guest rm fr him and even bught him sme Christmas gifts. I’ll never 5 the night when we arrived at my hme. My parents were already asleep, but my mm had prepared dinner and sme ckies fr us and left us a 6 . My parents were knwn fr their genersity(慷慨), s I wasn’t surprised by this warm 7 . But when Andrew read my mm’s nte and saw all that she had prepared, he brke dwn and culdn’t help 8 . At that mment, I began t realize what a lving family meant.
Frm then n, Andrew and I bth received gifts that we wuld 9 frever. I gave him the gift f a warm, lving and safe place t spend Christmas, which helped him renew his interest in life. On the first day f this schl year, I nticed a by sitting at the back f my classrm. I began t spend lts f time 1 him. He never smiled r talked with his classmates. He was always quiet 2 his classmates tld jkes. I went t his third-grade teacher and she said, “Yes, that’s Jhn. He is always that way all the year rund.” All the class knew he was still like befre, 3 I didn’t want him t be like that this year.
One day this February, when I was passing the classrm, I had a lk at 4 suddenly and he smiled at me fr the first time! I was s 5 but happy! I std there fr a mment, went ver t him and put my 6 arund him. He didn’t reply t the hug, but he smiled! The first change that I’d seen! He was 7 a little mre while he was with his classmates. Jenny, frm Germany, spent sme time travelling in India. While she was there, she stayed with her Indian friend, Leela. Hwever, there was a language barrier(障礙)fr her there. It was very 1 fr her t cmmunicate in the new envirnment, which was very different frm 2 f her wn cuntry.
