I. Teaching aims and learning bjectives
By the end f the lessn, students shuld be able t:
1. get a general idea f what New Yrk is like;
2. use the new wrds and phrases crrectly;
3. give a brief intrductin t New Yrk.
II. Teaching cntents
1. New wrds and phrases: guide, Asia, Africa, Eurpe, America, wrld-famus, trade, suthern, internatinal, huge, island, several, relax, hard, s much fr sth., bttm, pick, play, website
2. New structures: Wall Street, the wrld-famus trade centre, is here at the suthern end f Manhattan Island.
It’s exciting t see the huge glass ball falling thrugh the darkness!
With several lakes, hills and a large green pawn, it’s a gd place t relax after a hard day’s wrk.

T: Life is a jurney. Tday we’ll visit ne f the biggest cities in the wrld, New Yrk. Wuld yu shw me arund the city?
2. Learn t use the wrd “pick”

1. The jurney t New Yrk
T: Where is New Yrk? It is in Nrth America. It is in the nrthwest f the USA.
T: What attractins will yu shw the visitrs arund? Yu can shw them arund Wall Street, Times Square, Central Park and Bradway.
【設計意圖：通過頭腦風暴的形式復習有關紐約的基本知識，明確本節(jié)課基本結構。】
2. Visiting Wall Street
T: First, we’ll g t Wall Street. Here we can experience the wrld-famus trade centre. It is at the suthern end f Manhattan Island.
Here is a map f China. Where is Inner Mnglia? It is in the nrthern part f China. Where is Yunnan? It is in the suthern part f China. It is als at the bttm f the map. Where is Xinjiang? It is in the nrthwest f China.
T: Wall Street is famus fr the internatinal banks. In the wrd “internatinal”, “natin” means “cuntry”; the prefix “inter” means “amng”; the suffix “al” means “f”.
Brainstrming: Wrds with prefixes; wrds with suffixes.
Exercise: Cmplete the sentences with the crrect frms f the wrds in the brackets.

T: Next, let’s g t the Times Square. On New Year’s Eve, peple gather in the square. It’s exciting t see the huge glass balls falling thrugh the darkness.
(1) Differences between big, large, little, small and huge.
(2) Grup discussin: What safety tips shuld we knw when attending sme big events? Use the structures and phrases prvided.
【設計意圖：通過圖片與對比，講解幾個近義詞的用法；通過探討大型活動需要注意的安全事項，操練It is + adj. + fr sb. + t d的句型?！?br>4. Visiting Central Park
T: Here is Central Park. It is made up f several lakes, hills and a large green lawn.
(1) Pair wrk: What can we d in Central Park?
(2) Exercise: Translate the sentences int English.
【設計意圖：通過對話與翻譯練習，運用新學單詞relax和hard?！?br>5. Visiting Bradway
T: Bradway is famus fr theatres in the wrld. Here, yu can enjy the famus musical Cats. It is a play filled with many beautiful sngs. Yu can hear the famus sng “Memry”. In fact, Bradway has been famus fr its theatres since the early twentieth century.
(1) Use the crrect prepsitins t fill in the blanks.
(2) The usage f “since” and “fr” in the present perfect tense.
Exercise: Cmplete the sentences with the crrect frms f the wrds in the brackets.

Make an intrductin
T: OK, we’ve learnt a lt abut New Yrk. Wh wuld like t give a brief intrductin t the city? Yu can use the mind map n the screen t help yu.

1. Review the imprtant language pints.
2. Write a reprt abut New Yrk and exchange it with yur classmates.
