Plastic pllutin is grwing rapidly acrss Earth’s ecsystems and its threat t humanity and wildlife is t. Outcmes fr health and the envirnment will be severe unless we address it, says a United Natins (UN) reprt. But the discvery f micrplastics in human bld means immediate actin is needed.
Researchers fund tiny plastic particles (微粒), less than ne-thusandth f a millimeter in size, in almst 80 percent f 22 peple they tested. Such small plastics can travel thrugh the bdy and culd stick in ur vital rgans. These tiny pieces culd damage cells and tissues, causing many diseases like cancer.
“I was shcked but nt surprised. We already knew that micrplastics have been fund in human rgans. The bdy finds it hard t break these particles dwn, which assciate them with chrnic (長期的) disease,” said J Ryle, the CEO f Cmmn Seas—a scial enterprise lking t stp plastic pllutin. “It’s clear that the best way t battle with micrplastics and prevent health prblems is t make sure they dn’t end up being deserted in ur envirnment in the first place,” added Ryle. “This is why we need leaders and businesses t take respnsibility fr plastic trash alng its lifecycle.”
Sme il and gas cmpanies that supply plastic prducts plan t expand plastic utput and duble prductin in the next 20 years. But analysts say that wuld backfire n peple, gvernments, and industries rejecting plastic t prtect the envirnment. Big brands are reducing plastic packaging and changing t alternatives. Plastic is seen as a threat as large as climate change and a UN treaty against pllutin is the result.
Natural prducts like plant materials and even silk ffer plastic alternatives, especially in fd and prduct packaging. But the UN believes we cannt simply recycle ur way ut f the prblem. An immediate reductin and industry transfrmatin are needed. As the bld micrplastic study suggests, that transfrmatin must be rapid. Because the rate at which we absrb plastic int ur bdies is faster than the rate we remve it. And that needs a planet-wide respnse.

B. Restrictins n thrwing plastic waste.
C. Develping natural alternatives t plastic.

B. Rapid transfrmatin in plastic industry is needed.
C. Mst natural materials can be alternatives t plastics.
D. The rate f bdies’ absrbing plastics is uncntrllable.
11. Which can be a suitable title fr the text?
A. Plastic Pllutin Is Transfrming Humans’ Lifestyle
B. Increasing Updated Plastics Have Enjyed Ppularity
C. Micrplastics in Bld Highlight Health Emergency
D. Practical Slutins t Plastic Waste Are Appraching

Mst peple wh’ve stayed up all night knw the “tired and nervus” feeling the next day. The bdy might be exhausted, but the brain feels active r even crazy. Even after these changes fade away, sleep lss can have a strng anti-depressin effect n peple fr several days.
T figure it ut, a team f bilgists frm Nrthwestern University lked at the effects f sleep lss in mice. In the beginning, they created a depressed state in all the mice by repeatedly giving them small shcks. In respnse t these shcks, the mice entered a depressive-like state and eventually stpped trying t escape their cages. Subsequently, sme were allwed t sleep while thers were frced t stay up. Later, they tested the mice’s respnse t shcks again. They fund that after this sleepless night, the mice that had stayed up were less depressed and shwed mre attempts t escape the shcks.
What causes these changes in mice? T see hw the mice’s brains respnded t their sleepless night, the researchers measured dpamine neurn (神經(jīng)元) activity. They saw that mice lacking in sleep shwed higher dpamine activity in three regins: the prefrntal crtex (前額葉皮質(zhì)), nucleus accumbens (伏隔核) and hypthalamus (下丘腦).
T figure ut which areas were related t the mice’s anti-depressin effect, they silenced dpamine reactins in each f these areas f the brain. The anti-depressin effect disappeared in mice when the team silenced the dpamine input in the prefrntal crtex, while it cntinued t exist when they d the same t the ther tw regins. That’s why Yevgenia Kzrvitskiy, the leading researcher, says that this regin may be imprtant in relieving depressin.
Based n the belief that transitins between a depressed state and a nn-depressed state are influenced by the brain’s ability t rerganize cnnectins, Kzrvitskiy and her team lked at individual neurns in the prefrntal crtex fr signs f grwth. They saw evidence f the new cnnectins, suggesting that dpamine had recnnected neurns in the mice brains t maintain their md fr several days. Kzrvitskiy says this wrk may help future studies n depressin treatment, but whether it’ll cure depressin remains t be seen.
12. What is the purpse f the first paragraph?
A. T present a fact.B. T intrduce a study.
C. T make a predictin.D. T analyze a phenmenn.
13. What did researchers find in their study?
A. The mice staying up were cnstantly depressed.
B. The mice with sleep lss gave up escaping cages.
C. The mice with enugh sleep didn’t react t shcks.
D. The mice sleeping less were in anti-depressin state.
14. What is paragraph 4 mainly abut?
A. Uncvering causes f mice’s changes.B. Testing new treatment fr depressin.
C. Finding mice’s reactin t envirnment.D. Assessing the amunt f dpamine input.
15. What is Kzrvitskiy’s attitude twards the finding f the study?

后文“A hbby is a pursuit utside ne’s regular ccupatin fr relaxatin while passin cmfrts yu and drives yu crazy at the same time.(愛好是一種在日常工作之外的放松追求,而激情既能安慰你,又能讓你發(fā)瘋。)”講述了愛好和激情之間的區(qū)別,所以空處應(yīng)講述的是二者容易被混為一談,D項“通常,人們會將自己的愛好與激情混為一談?!狈项}意。故選D。
【19題詳解】
根據(jù)本段主旨句“Thirdly, never chse a majr by feeling instead f research.(第三,千萬不要憑感覺而非研究來選擇專業(yè)。)”
