French children are saying “Hell” t the new academic year and “Bye” t their cell phnes during schl hurs. That’s because a new law has cme int effect which bans phne use by students up t the age f 15. The rule, which fllws a campaign prmise by French President Emmanuel Macrn, als bans tablets and smart watches.
The ban ?s als in place at break times with exceptins in cases f emergency and fr disabled children, the French Educatin Ministry said in a statement. In emergencies, students can ask their teachers fr permissin t use their phnes. Meanwhile, high schls can vluntarily carry ut the measure.
Educatin Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer said the new rules aim t help children fcus n lessns, better scialize and reduce scial media use. The ban is als designed t fight nline bullying and prevent thefts and vilence in schl.
