In mst places a traffic signal in the middle f the desert, especially ne fr camels, may well be a mirage, but in this case it is all t real. At the Mingsha Muntain and Crescent Spring Scenic Spt in Gansu Prvince, nrthwest China, the wrld’s first traffic light fr camels was set up t manage traffic in the ppular turist area.
Accrding t a Chinese state-wned wire service, the prblem was that the walking paths fr human beings ften crssed camel paths, creating traffic chas (混亂). As a slutin, wrkers cut a gap in the walkway and created a separate rute fr the camels. The traffic light nw manages the flw f traffic at the new crssing.
Camel-riding turs are a big attractin fr visitrs t the area. But visitrs t the Mingsha Muntain and Crescent Spring Scenic Spt will nw be safe frm camel crashes, thanks t the new traffic signal, which turns green t let the animals crss and red t make them stp.
The Mingsha Muntain and Crescent Spring Scenic Spt is already a turist ht spt thanks t its breathtaking sand dunes (沙丘), an asis (綠洲) and even the ccasinal snwstrm which create therwrldly scenery. The strange camel traffic signal culd well becme anther attractin t enjy n a visit t the scenic area.
The area is clse t Dunhuang City n the edge f the Gbi Desert, and it used t be an essential resting pint fr travellers n the Silk Rad. Dunhuang’s best-knwn turist attractin is the Mga Caves. Many wners f electric cars have wished fr a battery pack that culd pwer their vehicle fr mre than a thusand miles n a single charge. Researchers have develped a lithium-air battery that culd make that dream a reality. The new battery design culd als ne day pwer airplanes and trucks. The main new cmpnent in this lithium-air battery is a slid electrlyte instead f the usual liquid variety.
Batteries with slid electrlytes are nt subject t safety prblems with the liquid electrlytes used in lithium-in and ther battery types, which can verheat and catch fire. Mre imprtantly, the slid electrlyte can ptentially bst the energy fur times, which translates int lnger driving range.
Fr ver a decade, scientists have been wrking vertime t develp a lithium battery that makes use f the xygen in air. The lithium-air battery has the highest energy f any battery technlgy being cnsidered fr the next generatin f batteries beynd lithium-in.
The new slid electrlyte is cmpsed f a material made frm relatively inexpensive elements, cmpared with the past designs. Besides, the chemical reactin in lithium-in nly invlves ne r tw electrns stred per xygen mlecule, while that fr lithium-air battery invlves fur electrns. Mre electrns stred means higher energy.
The new design is the first lithium-air battery that has achieved a fur-electrn reactin at rm temperature. It als perates with xygen supplied by air frm the surrunding envirnment. The capability t run with air avids the need fr xygen tanks t perate, a prblem with earlier designs. “With further develpment, we expect ur new design fr the lithium-air battery t reach a recrd f 1200 watt-hurs per kilgram,” said Curtiss, a researcher. “That is nearly fur times better than lithium-in batteries.”
32. What cntributes mst t the lithium-in battery?
A. Slid electrlytes.B. Liquid cmpnent.
C. Lithium-in.D. Oxygen mlecules.
33. What’s the prblem with lithium-in batteries?

C. They damage the envirnment.D. They require lnger charging time.
34. Hw des the authr rganize Paragraph 4?
A. By presenting statistics.B. By giving examples.
C. By analyzing cause and effect.D. By making cmparisns.
35. What is the best title f the text?
A. Electric Cars Are Becming Mre PpularB. Hw Lithium-air Batteries Wrk
